Holiday with its usual round of gayety has come and gone again, and we hope it was enjoyed by all. Cumberland was unusually gay this year. M. Jackson our new grocerv man is having a splendid trade in his line.... A heavy holiday trade is what all over merchants reports, the "McKinley Bill"' was cause of it. .Morton Mugg and wife of Quiucy Tnd. were the guests of their brother J. H. Every thing is comparatively quiet here at present. We are a peaceable people, needing few attorneys, and our Justice gets nothing to do, yet he is an uncomplaining gentleman, preferring harmony to a rushing business in his line... .Our merchants appear very cheerfull, indicating a fair patronage McCord and Jackson are shipping a large number of hogs, and are doing fair dealing by their patrons 'Hamilton, our clever wagon maker is having a lively trade.. .Our butchers, Asbury and Brokaw, are erecting a neat business room, to be occupied by them with a full line of meats... .The farmers with whom we have conversed on the subject, contemplate putting out a large acreage of corn next season.... Our churches and Sabbath schools are in flourishing condition and harmony and good will is the motto of the Christian people of our village... .Our schools are moving along without a jar with "Grit, Grip and Gumption" for their motto....The Nor mal commencing April, 7th, promises to be well attended Rev. Gran by of Indianapolis is holding a series of meeting at the Universal]'st Church, may much good b- accomplished.... A fine# and appreciative audience witnessed the Christmas execises at the M. E. Churcli last Wednesday evening... .Rev. Green has been quite poorly during the past ten days, but is convalescing... .Rev. Stovenour of Portland will deliver his famous lecture, "Eden at the North Pole," in McCordsville in the near future. This should be heard by all... .Sickness is abating somewhat, Jacob Cramer, Lesley Smith, Mrs. Isaac McCord, Mrs. Jay, W. Pilkenton's child and J. S. McCord's boy have been quite sick but are all convalescing.... J. S. McCord has sold his residence property to Oscar Bills for $675.00. Mr. Bills will move in April, and attend our Normal.. .Among the many visitors at McCordsville during holidays, we have learned the name* of the following: J. N. Hiatt, wife and daughter of Pennville Ind., at J. W. Jay's. John Fred and wife of Spencerville, Ind., and Capitola Fred of 111., at their father's, I. Fred and S. Hervey of Medical College, Cin. The Literary exercises were grand, and the presents were numerous that were in the home. A large audience were present, and the best of order prevailed .. Elder Aaron Walker will preach at the Christian Church next Saturday night and on Sunday and at night. .Geo. W. Reeves and Mrs Myers were married on Christmas evening at the residence of W. R. Reeves in Warrington by Rev. H. W. Robbins L. A. Johnson married a few days ago to Mary F. Flora of Rush mnty... W. S. Lane and Asa Sample of Charlottesville were in town last Friday night attending the I. O. O. F? lodge. .John H. Gwinn of Fortville was in town Friday.... The little girl of Dr. Cook who has been quite sick for several days is better now. Mrs. Collie Yetter is on the sick list... Zol Skiilman who has been sick for some time, is better. .Will. Gipe who was accidently shot in his leg i: having a pretty serious time of it. His wound is not getting well as fast as could be expected The following were the officers elected in the I. O. O. F. Isaiah Jay of Newcastle to preach for them the coming year... .The gentlemen that are here soliciting stock for a Creamery and Cheese factory have at this time secured about $4,500 dollars We have understood that they are going* to build with what capital they have secured. We are glad to see the town improve.

OBITUARY. SAMPLE.

Mary Sample, daughter of John S. and Ellen Sample, was born in Hancock Co., Ind, Jan. 10, 1857. Died Dec., 9 1890. Being 33 years, 10 months and 29 days old. Deceased was .lited in marriage to William Woolman June 18th 1879. From this union were born unto them four children, tw.o girls and two boys all of whom survive her. The husband is left to mourn the loss of a dear helpmeet and companion, and the children, the loss of their best earthly friend, a mother, but their loss is her eternal gain. Her light afflications which were but for a moment, worked for her, far more "exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Deceased united with the M. E. Church at the early age of 1#years and has been a- faithful member up to the day of her death. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. They rest from their labors. There remaineth therefore, a rest to the people of God.
