FAIR NOTES.
JftP OM THE FA IB. Don't forget the Fair, Aug, SO, 81, 22 There will be a Mule Race during the Fair. August 22. Special premium by H. B. Thayer, dry goods merchant. The conditions will appear in this paper last week, v' Leap!
Balloon! Parachute! Make it a rouser. Battle of Gettysburg. Bring something to the Fair. Children's day will be a great one. It will be the best county fair in the State
We will have several shows on the 1 grounds.
Knightstown Fair August 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31. Five days. I If you want all the news subscribe for the REPUBLICAN.
Bring your family to see the balloon 1 ascension and parachute leap. I L. P. Newby, of Knightstown, was here
Friday last, advertising their fair.
John New has a pacer that is going to open the eyes of some of the boys.
Secretary Downing was at Knightstown -, Tuesday last in the interest of the Fair.
vT A. C. Gambrel, the old reliable, is driv/ing 5 or 6 horses every day at the track.
The Treasurer of the Association this year is the liberal hog buyer El Tyner. Luckey Baldwin string is coming around
and he is now taking in some good purses. Superintendant Chandler and Secretary Downing will hustle the fair grounds from 5^110w on.
Secure your stables of Superintendent §£." Chandler and avoid the rush on the first p, /lay of the Fair. IpS Indianapolis horsemen are taking quite an interest in our Fair. They will be here in force.
The County Trot and Pace is for horses that have never started and are owned in Hancock county.
Early knows what takes. He offers a special premium of a ten dollar meerchaum pipe for a foot-race.
Wonder who will get the pipe? Will it go to Marion county or will some of our home boys win it:'
Joseph Baldwin, the old reliable will make one of his best displays in the Machinery Department.
Mrs. E. Marsh and Mrs. Marion Steele have been over the county working up an interest in the Woman's Department.
That we will have a successful fair this year is now an assured fact. Ever mail brings orders for stalls and space.
Dr. S. A. Troy was here Tuesday and went to the track to see his horses worked. They are showing up very satisfactory.
Jno. B. Hays, William New, Dr. S. A. Troy, B. F. Pauley aiul a number of others was at the track Monday to see the horses work.
Grand Marshal Duncan will have ail able corps of assistants who will see tliafc liquor or gambling will not be tolerated on the ground.
A balloon ascension and parachute leap is something that nas never taken place in this part of the country. Jvriiy person in the county should see it.
Dr. O. E. Halloway is President of the Knightstown District Fair and L. P. Xewby is Secretary. We hope they will have a successful meeting this year.
With Eph Mnrsh. W. C. Barnard and Dr. S. A. Millikan as Superintendents of tlie Live Stock Department everytLimr will be attended to promptly.
Mr. E. J. Baldwin, as usual, will be on hand with a large display of hardware, stoves and tinware. He will have as tasty a display as there is in Floral Hall.
The Woman's Department will IK- the best this year it has every been, and the only fair in the State that will have as large an exhibit will be the State Fair.
Farmers that intend show to stock at the Fair should come early to secure stalls for their horses and cattle as the indications at this time are that all the stalls will be taken.
The farmers, as well as the citizens of Greenfield, should remember that they will probably never have another opportunity to see a parachute leap when the balloon is 1,500 feet high.
As we have said in another place farmers who are going to show stock should come and secure the space before the rush. Secretary Downing received an order for eleven stalls Tuesday, and each day he receives word to reserve space for some one.
The purse in the free-for-all trot at the Knightstown fair is §100, divided as follows 1st $60, 2nd 25, 3rd 15. Time must be inside of 2 AO. Free-for-all pace $00 1st $40, 2nd|20 3rd 10. For the same races Greenfield offers, free-for-all pace, 1180, 1st $90 2nd 60, 3rd 30. Free-for-all trot, $220,1st 110, 2nd 70, 3rd 40.
MOKE FUN" FOR THE BOYS.
V. L. Early comes to the front and of fers a ten dollar meerschaum pipe for a foot-race of one hundred yards. As there is quite a lively interest taken in sprinting we may expect a good race. The pipe is a genuine meerschaum costing, at wholesale $10. It is now on exhibition in the window of his drug store. The day for the race has not been settled. We will give it next week. The foot and mule race will be on the same day.
LADIES' DEPARTMENT.
Having been requested by ye local editor for an article, and assailed on all sides by questions in regard to the prospects for our coming fair, we concluded to take advantage ot the space so kindly given us, and give a short synopsis of the journeyings of our committee, and the success of their self-imposed task—that of awakening an interest throughout the county in their own home Fair. We went through portions of every township. Hospitality and sociability met us on all sides, and everwhere, with few exceptions, we were promised support and assistance in our undertaking. We succeeded in persuading the majority that it was their duty to help out the exhibits. This is the only trouble with Hancock county. Our people are not sufficiently awakeued to the fact that the fair greatly depends on them, and the good work must go on until every one will come, and point with as much pride to the different exhibits as they would take in showiug a friend their own productions at home. We have representatives in every town of any size, who have kindly promised to do all in their power to interest the people around them, and help to make this the grandest fair of the season. We have endeavered to convince the peoole of Hancock county that this is their fair, and every man, woman and child should do something to add to its exhibits. We had only one cause for regret, and that was, that we could not take every road and stop at every house in the county. We intend taking another trip or two, but would be pleased if everyone who sees this would consider that we have requested them personally to bring something to help out our exhibits. If it is a large pumpkin, bring it a head of cabbage, bring that. Do something to boom the fair and show what old Hancock can do, when she tries. In conclusion, we wish to thank the people every where for their kindness, and hope they will keep their promises and fill our buildings to overflowing.

The Chief Reason for the great success of Hood's Sarsaparilla is found in the article itself. It is merit that wins, and tlie fact that Hood's Sarsaparilla actually ac* complislies what is claimed for it, is what has given to this medicine a popularity and sale greater than that of any other sarsapa-

Cholera in Michigan.
Dr. F. D. Iarke, of Rogers City, Michigan, says the epidemic of last year in Presque Isle County, in which so many persons lost their lives, was choleric dysentery instead of cholera as first reported. He used Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy and says it succeeded, where all other remedies failed. Not a case was lost in which it was used. This Remedy is the most reliable and most successful medicine known for colic, cholera morbus dysentery, diarrhoea and bloody flux. 25 and 50 cent bottles for sale by V. L. Early. tf.
An Important Element
Of the success of Hood's Sarsaparilla is the fact that every purchaser receives a fair equivalent for his money. The familiar headline "100 Doses One Dollar," stolen by imitators, is original with and true ouly of Hood's Sarsaparilla. This can easily be proven by any one who desires to test the matter. For real econemy, buy only Hood's Sarsaparilla. Sold by all druggists.
