\ Expansion of Local Gas Facilities Under New Management Promises More Adequate and Dependable Service | and Assures City’s Unhampered Industrial Development
Important improvements in the local gas storage and distribution systems looking toward increased efficiency of service to our customers have been completed. Affording a more ample and dependable supply of gas for all immediate and future needs of the city’s homes and industries, these betterments reflect the responsive and for-ward-looking attitude of this company’s new management. Among the major improvements now completed and in operation is a new type of high-pressure gas storage tank, 71 feet long by 20 feet in diameter, which adds a total of 50,000 cubic feet to the company’s present holder capacity, thus providing at least a 24-hours’ reserve supply. To insure continuously reliable pressure in all mains in the system a new compressor also has been installed in conjunction with the storage cylinder. In addition to these improvements many important trunk
line mains throughout the city have been interconnected by new four-inch lateral pipes which will provide customers with more uniform pressure. The new mains, aggregating one mile in length, have been laid in Crown street between Elm and Berry streets and in Berry street from Crown to Indiana street. Another section of four-inch main was recently laid in Wood street from Seminary to Washington street. Through this expansion and improvement of its gas service facilities, this Company has placed Greencastle on a favorable footing with communities of many times its population and industrial prominence. It is believed that the greater availability and convenience of gas service in Greencastle made possible by these improvements will be factors of ever increasing importance in the further economic development of our city.
