HIGH DEGREES
Greenfield Masons Attend Scottish Rite Convocation.
&
A large party of Scottish Rite Masons of this city are at Indianapolis and more will go this evening and tomorrow to attend the forty-first semi annual convocation of the Rite which began Tuesday afternoon and will continue until late Thursday night.
The Rite is conferred upon Master Masons—Men on whom the three symbolic degrees of Freemasonry have been conferred in "blue lodges," and is composed of four bodies as follows: Adoniram Grand Lodge of Perfection, which controls the degrees 4 to 14 inclusive Saraiah Council Princes of Jerusalem, 15 and 16 Chapter of Rose Croix, 17 and 18, and the Indiana Sovereign Consistory, S. P. R. S., 19 to 32.
The work Tuesday night was in the lodge of Perfection, which controls the ineffable degrees, named secret master, perfect master, intimate secretary, provost and judge, intendant of the building, elect of nine, elect of fifteen, sublime knigJtit elect, grand master archtect, knight of the ninth a,rcb, and -grand elect perfect and sublime Mason.
The degrees are conferred, like ail others in Freemasonry, with great impressivenes«. All the resources scenery, costumes, the great pipe organ, the well trained choir are brought into ,play to impress the lessons of the degrees.
The work today is in the council and chapter. The convocation dinner will be at the close of the work in the chapter this evening at o'clock.
A mistaken idea prevails that the Scottish Rite is only for the wealthy members of the Masonic fraternity. On the contrary the members represent all walks of life and is the most democratic organization on earth. When the King of England visits his lodge he is on a level with his humblest subject who may be present. Among the men who will sit in the banquet tonight will be farmers, lawyers, judges, doctors, ministers, professional and business men generally, railway officials, congressmen, perhaps a U. S. Senator, clerks, railway employes and other workingmen—all fraternizing and wearing the emblem of the order the double headed eagle.
The Scottish Rite, or thirtysecond degree Masons of this city are E. W. Felt, John S. Thomas, A. C. Pilkenton, A. P. Conklin, W. W. Cook, John Rhue, Nelson Bradley, sr., Walter O. Bragg, D. B. Cooper, George H. Cooper, H. K. Boyd, W. K. Boyd, Thomas H. Selman Samuel R. Wells, Elmer E. Stoner, J. M. Larimore, Will A. Hough, William A. Hughes, Thomas H. New, Thomas I. Morgan, Harvey D. Barrett, W. C. Barnard, Elwood Barnard, Charles Downing, Harry Strickland, George Moorehead, J. S. Stephens, W. G. Scott, George S. Wilson^ John B. Hinchman, Isom S. Wright, Edwin P. Thayer, W. Coughing.
"There's nothing"sojbad for a cough as coughing." Coughing is like scratching a wound so long as it is done,it will not'heal. When tempted to cough,"tdraw along breath through the nostrils hold it until ic warms the air cells. The nitrogen thus refined, allays the desire to cough and gives the throat and lungs a chance to heal. The use of "Severity-seven" will aid nature in her efforts to recoperate.
