Entered as second-class matter August 1. .9$ AM, at the postofflce nt Gx-eenfield, Indiana, *nder an act ot Congress. March 3.1879.

Under Postmaster Cortelyou and during the last two years fifteen hundred violations of the postal laws have been investi gated and five hundred and fifty -, persons or concerns placed on 'the fraud list. Gold mines

TMexican plantations, clairvoyance and fortune tellers and anedical frauds have all been forced out of business to the benefit of the people and to the credit of Mr. Cortelyou. It is difficult to see how that gentleman as bead of the Treasury

Department can be of greater service to his oountry.

"Whenever candidates or political workers seek to win advantage by stirring up personal hate, they do not deserve to succeed. Political action should be controlled by good judgment, and not by sentiment and passion.

Senator Burton's wife will remain in Ironton to be near her husband during the time be will serve in the Kansas penitentiary. This is the best thing that has been said for Ralph since his indictment.

The buokwheat crop will be larger than ever this year but it is probable that the man who desires real buckwheat will have to raise it himself as in previous years.

If the American child is the infant terrible he. is said to be by foreigners one would think the Japanese would be delighted to have their children in schools .by themselves in California.

At a bargain counter rush in Louisville a dozen women were badly hurt. The President who is in favor of clean foot ball should proclaim new rules for the.tyargain counter struggle.

From present indications the election of. tomorrow will be one of unusually good feeling. The results, whatever they may be, will be accepted with good grace.

statements before and elections very^' seldom

harmonize. The reason for the discrepancy is due to the fact that the politicians count the votes before election, and the people count them afterwards.

There have been fewer "hang-ers-on" lying-in-wait for candielates this year than ever before. Tbe curb-stone statesmen have not been very conspicuous this year, and the candidates are the beneficiaries of that condition.

Governor Magoon is going to stop dueling in Cuba, bull fighting, cock figtiting, hai jalai and now dueling withdrawn from the people how are they going to amuse themselves except by

revolutions.

Secretary Shaw is advocating smaller bills. If he can have any influence with the grocers he will have the support of all giood citizens.

A New York waiter has ju6t fallen heir to $100,000. Another proof of the saying that "All things come to him who waits."

Everybody will be glad when the campaign and election are over, whether they are satisfied with results or not.

STILL TO THE GOOD.

Greenfield Wins From Imington Last Saturday.

Greenfield High School football team won from Irvington Saturday in the most interesting contest ever played in this city. Tbe score was 11 to 0. Out of several games this season this was the first time Irvington had been scored against and there has not been a mark on the wrong side for Greenfield. The game therefore was" certain to be of interest, and a good sized crowd witnessed the contest.

A Christmas Innovation.

At tbe monthly meeting yesterday of the Bradley M., E. Sunday school board, it was decided to hold the Christmas exercises this year on Christmas eve, Monday. The treat will be given out in the afternoon and the exercises in the evening. A novel feature in connection is the arrangement whereby, commencing with,' next Sunday, every attendant at this school will each Sunday he is present up to Christmas, receive a ticket entitling him to a defiinite amount of Christmas treat. Thus the size of his portion of the treat will depend absolutely upon his attendance at the regular sessions of the school. The only exceptions "will be in the case of children who are ^pre^ vented from attending because of illness. 'Vv

Health Teacher Has Arrived.

This remarkable man reached Greenfield yesterday filled with enthusiasm over the hearty reception accorded him by the people of Marion, which city he has just left, and if the people here greet him in the same cordial manner, his visit should prove as successful as elsewhere.

The first impression created by the Health Teacher is that he is not only a perfect gentleman, but a man whose sincerity of purpose can not be questioned. He is unassuming, modest, very plainspoken and has none of the distinguishing marks a person is led to look for in pub lie characters. Seeing liim on the street it would be impossible to imagine him other than an ordinary citizen, yet it is said that before he has been in the city a week, every man, woman and child knows him by sight.

The object of his visit is not only to meet people who are afflicted with sickness and desease, but to talk to those who are interested in retaining good health. He will make his headquarters at V. L. Early's Drug Store while here and he wants every person who can spare a few moments of time to visit him. He makes no charge for lis interviews and stated positively that he desired no gifts of any character from persons who may desire to show their appreciation. He desires this statement made new, as past experience has taught him that many people receive the impression that they are under obligations to him after their interviews.

We ask our customers to try Ake-In the-Head tablets for neuralgia and headaches with the understanding that you must get immediate relief or your money back. Safe, sure and six cures for ten-cents. Vincent L. arly.
