Entered as second-class matter August 1 f904, at the postofflce nt Greenfield, Indiana, Under an act ot Congress. March 3.1879.
The Ministerial Association of Greenfield has decided to hold a series of union open air meetings on the streets of this city. The first meeting" will occur Saturday evening at the northwest corner of the public square. This is a modern, practical manner of reaching the people. It is sure to have a good effect and it is entitled to the loyal support of all church people. By this method, many people will be reached that seldom, if ever, go to the churches. What preachers and christian workers want, is to get in close touch with the whole people. The ministers of all the churches regret that they do not get greater hearing from the outside people. Recently an earnest minister of a Greenfield church -While attending a political convention, said to a representative of the Star: "I wish could get to preach every Sun day to a crowd like this." What the preachers need, is a better chance at the people who are not interested in church work and Christianity. The open air movement is an attempt to reach those people who do not goto the churches. There is no class of citizens who have higher ideals and standards than the preachers. None who have more at heart the best interests of the communit}'' in which they live than the faithful pastors. Out of the minis terial association meetings spring many ideas of civic righteousness, better living and better citizenship. The ministerial association of Greenfield is an instrumentality of more power for good than is generally appredated. Their united effort against wrong and in favor of right is one of the most powerful moral influences in our city. From a material standpoint the .work of the minister is not attractive, but from the standpoint of doing good for their fellowmen the faithful minister has no equal.

Why does the sun burn? Why does a mosquito sting? Why do we feel unhappy in the Good Old Summer Time? Answer: we don't. We use DeWitt's Witch Hazel salve, and these little ills don't bother us. Learn to look for the name on the box to get the genuine. Sold by M. Quigley. .)

SPIDER WEB.
A slender filament in yon Bright bit of gossamer whereon The sunlit spider swings—what if he fall?/-
A couch of grass is all.
A dozing architect, he lays His skillful courses On my ways— 4 But see how idly! For with one light blow 1 lay his rafters low. Yet he'll go building still, as 1, Whose castles oft in ruin lie, Begin and spin anew my filament
By some vast Being rent.
Mayhap, because 1 choose to lay My darling rafters on His way, He sweeps his vexed forehead with a frown
If you want to find a worthless, good-for-nothing boy or man, look for a loafer. .-Continued idleness will make a no account boy out of a good' one, while constant employment makes a good boy out of one naturally inclined to be bad. Greenfield has examples of each kind.
Tillman's South Carolina liquor law has been defeated, and that memorable conversation between the governors of North Carolina and South Carolina is likely to be revived.
We read in the papers that the Russian anarchists are firing bombs. Our police courts have been firing bums for many years.
NO QUESTION ABOUT IT-
Pepsikola Must Cure Indigestion or it is Free.
Vincent L. Early continues to sell Greenfield people with the understanding it must positively cure dyspepsia and indigestion or it will not cost a penn3r.

Gemelli Rings.
A quaint custom of the long ago was that of breaking a ring for betrothal. Such rings were fashioned for the purpose, beiug made of two twin circles, and were called gimmal rings, from the word gemelli, meaning twins. A ring of pure gold she from her finger took, And just in the middle the same there she broke. Quoth she, "Ab a token of love you this take, And this as a pledge I will keep for your sake." .*
The gimmal w^as also a favorite wedding ring for many years.
