BID SALE PRICES
The Si:i!h Auction of Personal Property yesterday.
^be Smith public sale Thursday was one of the largest sales ever heU Hancock county. There have been stock sales which the values were such as to aggregate more money that this sale but in variety of property and number of seperate transactions it was perhaps never equaled in the county. There were about 2,000 persons present. There were many foreign horse buyers one from New York. The well known thoroughbred stallion brought $600. A five months-old draft colt sold for $125 one two-year-old colt §250 one broodmare $339.
The growing corn sold from £14 to $24 per acre. The hogs brought extremely high prices. One small sow and pigs sold for $33.
One especially interesting feature of the sale was the machinery, implements and vehicles. They had been lined up in a forty acre field. They formed two lines 40 rods long with a drive way between. Mr. Pauley the auctioneer, was placed in a wagon and wTas driven down the line selling the implements as they came to them.
The bidding on the implements was lively but the most spirited contests were between the junk men on the old worn out machinery. A junk man by the name of Joseph and the well know7n junk dealer Sam Smullion, of this city, were the principal competitors. The Greenfield man was too much for the city man and won out on every thing he wanted.
It was at first thought that the property could not be sold in one day, and when Mr. Pauley succeeded in disposing of the implements and machinery by 11:30 a. m. he knew that he would have no trouble in selling it before night. He completed the sate before 3:30 p. m.
A special car for the Benton Harbor excursion will leaye Greenfield station at 11 p. m., Saturday, Sept. 8th, making connection at Knightstown with Big Four excursion to Benton Harbor. Train leaves Knightstown at 11:38 p. m. This will be one of the most enjoyable excursions of the season. The train will run through the famous peach orchards of Michigan which will be in the height of the ripening season. Excursion will leave Benton Harbor 6:30 p. m., Sunday, Sept. 9th, 1906, arriving at Knightstown in time for interurban cars west bound.

Time Works Wonders
Seven Years Ago
my competitors stood on the top round of the ladder, while I was slowly working my way up round by round.
TO-DAY
my competitors are piling up jack-rocks trying to get a handhold on the bottom round.
Starting seven years ago with a few dollars in cash, by fair dealings with the people, selling honest goods at low prices, my business has grown, year by year, until I defy competitors.
I have thq largest stock of Jewelry, Silverware, Watches, Clocks, Cut Glass, etc., ever shown in Greenfield. Prices are the lowest consistent with quality.
If you will call and inspect my stock you will be convinced.ps MY MOTTO:
"Another round
at the top of the ladder, get a hold on it."x

Talked of Republican Ticket and Other Things Political.
The political game is beginning to open the littlest bit about town. It is not out in the open to any marked degree and it is beyond the rank and file to know just what is doing. The Democrats have their county, ticket made and appear to be well pleased. There is not much talk of Republican candidates. The names of Barclay Binford and J. K. Henby are mentioned as candidates for county commissioners in the east and middle district Wm. Atherton for county surveyor Wm. A. Hough, Elmer J. Binford and James F. Reed for' judge.
Hon. T. H. Kuhn, Democratic candidate for congress, made his second campaign speech in Hancock county at Shirley Thursday night. He had a good crowd. Judge Felt, Robert Mason and Omer Jackson of this county attended. Messrs. Mason and Felt made speeches.
It is rumored that James E. Watson will make only two speeches in Hancock county during the campaign. The time and places have not been decided upon.
The Republican State Committee adopted new rules for party conventions at its meeting this week.
A few political meetings gare being held throughout the county relative to completing the sixty-day poll. ......
Democratic leaders are pointing out that they have an exceptionally clean and strong county ticket.
Some leading Republicans say that they have the best chance to carry Hancock county that they have ever had, while prominent Democrats are claiming that they will carry the Sixth Congressional district.
Dr. B. F. Dailey, the Prohibitionist candidate, for congress is being solicited frequently to make political speeches in the different counties of the district but he will not begin his speaking campaign until the first part of October. He will make a tour of the district, speaking in the different counties. He will make about three or four speeches in Hancock county.
