POLITICAL INDEPENDENCE There is no denying- the fact tbat there is a wide spread sentiment in favor of greater political independence. It is not so much against any certain party as it is in favor of better political conditions. It is evidently a reaction against the evils of political party domination. It can not be regarded as an effort to exterminate existing parties in order to institute a new party. It is more an effort to compel existing- parties to more effectiveness to rid them of certain dominating influences which are antagonistic to the general good. Such influences are recognized in all parties, and the independent movement is directed against them whereever found. It can not be classed as disgrunled elements sore from personal disappointment. It is a greater and broader movement than that. It tinds support in high official positions within both the older political parties. Polk of Missouri, Johnson of Ohio, Jerome and Hearst of New York, are leaders of Democracy who stand for certain ideas which their party refuses to accept Even President Roosevelt has been turned down in many lm portant matters by a Congress elected b}^ his party, Taft, Root Lafollette, Cummins and Hanly are prominent Republicans who have made a national reputation by opposing- party measures the interest of reforms that they regarded greater than mere party success. The labor ele ments of the country are urging the breaking away from party lines altogether and voting- for men of all parties who are harmony with their ideas on the labor questions. The livuor in terests are united against every thing- that is opposed to their business. The Prohibitionists are caring much more for results than party. What they want is State and National Prohibition, and they do not care so much whether their party enacts such laws, or compels some other party to do it The great uncertainty which now attends municipal elections indicates very clearly the strong tendencies toward political independence in local matters. In many counties where different political parties hold a majority of votes and where long supremacy has produced abuses in local administration, a deep seated discontent has taken hold of the people and they declare there is no excuse for party voting in such matter. They are advocating political independence in local elections. They are inquiring about the integrity and qualifications of candidates rather than their party politics. All of these influences are indications of better political conditions.' It means tbat the interests of the whole people in the nation, the state, the county and the city will receive greater consideration at j/the hands of their
officers that there will be more integrity in official administration that there will less graft and extravagance. These abuses are not confined to any one party but are found in all of them. They have been fostered and perpetuated by blind party slavery. Intelligent independent voting in politics will do more to remove the political boss and floater, and produce genuine economic political reform than any other influence. The results would be more advantageous than the most extravagant reformer anticipates.
The State fair will occur next week at Indianapolis, and will afford the people of Indiana, an opportunity to see and inspect the best products of the state in all lines. The exhibition is of such a nature as to appeal to persons engaged in all lines of' Call at once industry. It is a good place for Rent for one observation and industry as electric line, well as pleasure It is difficult to understand how any man actively engaged in any kind of business can be indifferent out attending the State fair. While it should interest every citizen, it should especially attract the farmers, fruit growers, stock raisers and manufacturers. Women will find much in the line of fine arts to please themThe fair is a worthy state institution in which every citizen"should take an interest and contribute to its success.
There is less political work being done in Hancock county than usual at this stage of a political campaign. Why this is the case does not seem to be thoroughly understood. Politics does not seem to be a very absorbing subject at this time. The Prohibitionists are doing more work than both of the old parties.
AMUSEMENTS.
GRAND OPERA HOUSE.
As usual, the Grand will have a very strong vaudeville bill with which to please tbe State Pair visitors. Heading the program will be two stars from the musical comedy stage—Mabel Barrison and Joseph E. Howard. Both of these popular entertainers have been appearing in comic operas and bright extravaganzas during the last five seasons, and their appearance as vaudeville headliners will be of unusual interest to amuse-ment-seekers. Miss Barrison is a beautiful and accomplished young woman, who has won her way to the hearts of all lovers of music^and dance, and Joseph E. Howard is a versatile comedian, who'spends half his time entertaining audiences and the rest in writing musical comedies.
One of the best trained animal acts before the public is the exhibition given by Alfred Carlisle's dogs and ponies, a wonderfurcompany of four footed performers. Mr. Carlisle has reached the very limit of animal training, as he has taught his pets to accomplish, feats never before performed by other animals. ^The popular comedians, Smith and Campbell, will ap pear in their latest assortment of jokes* and parodies, and another amusing number of the program will be the farcical musical act of that clever team, Fred Eckhoff and Anna Gordon. Lynn, Fay and Young will appear in aspectaoular singing and dancing production. Other en-
tertainersof enviable reputation
will be the pretty comedienne, ane Courtrope, who, with her supporting players, will present the farce, "Fisherman's Luck," Belle Gordon, ''the American Girl," and Kathrine Nugent, formerly of "The County Chairman" Company. The bioscope will round out this splendid program with a new series of interesting and amusing motion pictures.

RICHMOND, IND.,Nov.20,1905.
The charity patient in whom am so much interested
ivjiras scvent)-live years old at he time that she began the use of "Zemo." fand herweightwas LiUlbs. lier health has been poor for some time past, suffering mainly from spinal trouble, according to the diagnosis of the doctors in attendance. She has been a hard worker all her life, having .-^made the living for her family keeping boarders. Somewhat over a year :^igo eczema begun to trouble her. It gradually grew worse and worse until her entire body was affected, the legs being a mass of sores con,:stantly separating. The itching and burning sensation was so dreadful at times that it was imposM ble for her to sleep day or night. The doctors (two of our best,) pronounced the case incurable. and when 1 asked -permission to use "Zemo-' promptly said, ''It would delight us to flnd something to cure this dear old sufferer." *Zettio" was first, used on the upper part of the body and soon relieved the patient of the terrible distress c.tuscd by the milling and burning. The doctors had been dressing the legs every day. but as soon as they saw the wonderful change in the skin where "Zemo" had been used, they gave consent to have It used on the legs. Gradually they began to improve and are now almost as smoot a.s the face. It. was probably about a monUi before much relief was experienced in this part of the body, then skwi scaled off. itching, burning and aching gradually ceased. It seems now as if a testimonial might be given, but. the -uitient thinks that she had better use "Zemo" a few weeks longer before saying that she is cured. However, she is very grateful to all who have been instrumental in securing your wonderful remedy and thinks that it has a great future before it.
Respectfully.
(MRS.} MARY PERRY BELLIS. Nurse in Hospital, No. 208 N. 8th St.
