Mrs. V. L. Early, who has been very sick with stomach trouble, is very much better today. Her §on, Will W. Fitz, was down from Indianapolis last night.

C. C. Orders and wife of West North street will go to Fredonia, Kansas, about August 20th, where Mr. Orders has accepted a position w.ith a glass factory. They will retain their residence in this city where they own a home and will return here after the fire is out next spring.

The members of the Queen's Council and their friends who went to White City on their private excursion last night report a very delightful evening. No accidents befell anyone along the way and there have appeared no ill effects from the night out.

Thomas Beecher, who was recently operated upon for appendicitis, was able to visit his neighbor, Otis Orr Tuesday evening. Otis Orr, who recently underwent a surgical operation is better and Mr. Beecher's first trip out was to call upon him. He was accompanied by Dr. Howard.

^"Earl Smith has gone to Detroit to join one of B. W. Whitney's attractions. He Will visit New York and numerous other Eastern cities. Mr. Whitney is one of the most successful musical comedy and comic opera managers and will have "Piff, Paff, Puff," the "Show Girl" and others on the road this year.

The city council will meet in regular session tonight.

H. O Slifer and wife spent today with relatives at Fortville. Russell Phelps, of Carthage, is in this cicy today on business.

G. D. Allen started today for New Mexico after -a visit in this county. He is a teacher in the Indian school.

Miss Faye Kane, of Noblesville, returned home yesterday after several weeks visit with her sister, Mrs. Elmer Binford.

Mr. and Mrs. Will Leamon are keeping house for the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Rock, while they are out of the city.

The brothers and sisters of the late Mrs. Olive Hackle'man wish to express their appreciation of the many acts of kindness shown them during her illness.

Carl V. Hardin and Miss Elizabeth Manche were married Tuesday evening by the Rev. W. W. Martin, pastor of the M. E. church, at his residence on East Main street. The bridegroom is the son of Joseph Hardin, of Rush county, and the bride a daughter of Mr. and^Mrs. John Manche, of Brandywine township.

Mrs. Anna Zike and daughter, Miss Golden, left their home in Santa Barbara, Col., this morning for this State. After two weeks' visit with Mrs. Zike's sister in Logansport they will be guests of relatives in this city and Morristown several weeks. Mrs. Zike is the widow of Roscoe Zike, and was Miss Anna Ellis, of this city. They have leased their home in Santa Barbara to an Eastern family.

There will be no Chautauqua at Shelbyville this year, as was intended when the sessions closed last year. ftev. H. O. Pritchard, who was interested in the Chautauqua work there with Rev. H. H. Harmon last year, has stated that they would not take up the work there this season on account of his absence from the city. Last year's entertainments in Shelbyville were not a success, financially.

Matchett and Frazierj who own a large balloon, will make an ascension at Spring Lake Park Sunday afternoon. It is their intention to surpass all ascensions ever witnessed in Hancock county. They will at tempt to send the ballon and aeronant out of sight.
