If a woman makes a fuss when her husband pays other women attention, he accuses her of being insanely jealous, and if she does not pay any attention to his devotion to other women, he says she is indifferent to him.

The only things certain on this country, it is said, are death and taxes, but the case is somewhat different in England. There taxes are not sacred, and the English actually reduce them when conditions warrant and the welfare of a community can be promoted by so doing. The British budget this year shows a surplus from revenues and taxes is to be reduced so that the people may benefit by the improved condition.

Congress is profoundly concerned about protecting the constitution but not so much so that it will want to stay on guard when the thermometer registers toward one hundred.

Another cause for congratulation is to be found in the fact, that the American people are so properous that several million dollars can be spared for the relief of the earthquake victims without having the sacri-s fice felt.

The president of the Southern Bell Telephone Company says that the telephone is improving the American voice and killing dialects. If this is true curiosity is aroused as to why "Central" does not begin to show a more perfect and purer English.

What will strike the average man as the most remarkable thing counected with the episode of John D. Rockefeller, Jr., carrying in coal for a woman to use in cooking his dinner, was the fact that he did not pause! to argue with heron the superi- I ority of oil as a fuel for cooking purposes.

The authorities in San Francisco are beginning to quarrel among themselves about the disposition of the relief fund. The people are beginning to talk of damage suits because of the distruction of their buildings by dynamite. Householders are protesting against the occupancy of their homes by the troops. Altogether it looks as if conditions had 'greately improved there.

If it is necessary to spend $300,000 a year for the benefit of the farmers of the country it should be done through the experiment stations rather than by the distribution of seeds. The work of the experiment stations of the different states has been productive of good results and

TO FRISCO IN 7 HOURS.

Tom Johnson Invents Motor tor Travel at Lightning Speed.

Cleveland Special: Mayor Tom Johnson hopes to give the world a system of rapid transit that will revolutionize all present means of travel to make possible a flight by rail from Cleveland to San Francisco in seven hours. Mayor Johnson has invented a motor and is still working on his plans.

The car is built to run on an overhead track. At the highest rate of speed of which the motor is capable the wheels would fly to pieces. Hence shoes take their place. Powerful magnets take up the weight of the car and minimize the friction of the shoes on the rails.

From Cleveland to Chicago, a distance of 342, the trip that now takes eight hours and more would be made in fiftythree minutes. Stops at stations would have to be automatic.

"We Won't Co Home Till Morning" Is not a modern song at least the air Is not modern, for it dates back to the times of the first Duke of Marlborough. It is the old French air of "Malbrouk s'en va-t-on guerre Dieu salt quant reviendra" ("Malbrouk has gone to the war: the Lord knows when he will come home again"). The second verse hinted that the Duke of Marlborough would be a long time away. "II reviendra-z-a la Faques, ou a la Trlnite" ("He will return at Easter or Trinity Sunday"). In south Yorkshire, In England, tluit all exists as a children's song:

We are now ready with the most complete line, and in our judgment the best line of Men's clothing we have ever had. It

might almost be said that the makers of this house have surpassed themselves if such a thing was possible. The materials are beautiful—greys are in the predominance and the styles are becoming to the majority. It will be a pleasure to us to have you call and look these over.
