Tbe new school house, known as Benevolence, is completed and school opened there today. It is a very neat brick building and built along modern methods.
Shelbyville Liberal Mr. Peter Fettig is perfectly willing that his friends use his name for the purpose of giving Shelby county a chance to vote against John Megee at the Rushville [convention.

Miss Daisy Patterson has returned from a visit with her brother in Indian Territory.

Joe Barrett is expected home tomorrow from Greensburg, where he has been overseeing the contract undertaken there by Frank Lewark. The work for the winter has been completed and accepted by the city.
The Red Mea of Arlington will present the five act melodrama, "In the Toils," at their hall on evening of Thursday, January 11th. The cast will consist entirely of local talent and is being trained by Dr. H. F. Nave.
There is a trouble on the electric line east of the city this afternoon, but just what has caused the the long delay in cars could not be learned. A car was run out of the barns and the waiting crowd at the station taken on their way.
Mrs. Will Rigdon, who has been suffering several days from neuralgia or the face, is much better today. Mrs, Rigdon received a message this morning from her mother, Mrs. Mary Showalter at Freeport, who has been ill, stating that she is on the way to recovery. Mrs. Showalter is about 80 years ©Id.
The evening limited I. & C. out ot Rushville, with Austin Todd as conductor, set a new speed record for 1906 that has ^not been equalled. Between stops 11 and 12, just east of New Palestine, the car ran a mile in 52 seconds. This is three seconds lower than the speed record for 1905. When the car rounded the -sharp curve just east of the point where the line passes under the C., H. & D., it was running at the rate of 55 miles per hour.

Miss Elsie Hudelson, who was not able to teach in the Departmental school yesterday, was able to resume her duties today. Mrs. John Radcliff substituted for her.

One hundred and ten men and women who are interested in the Indianapolis and Cincinnati Traction Company, enjoyed tbe New Year's Day in making an excursion over the line and a banquet at the Columbia Club at night. The party was composed of stockholders aad their families. Among the speakers at the banquet was Will A. Hough, of this city, who spoke of "OurRoad.''
The quail hunting as a closed on Sunday, December 31st,and persons who happened to be out with their dogs and guns will be liable to suspicion unless their reputation is widely known. At the beginning of the new year the only game huntable under the law is ducks and oilier water fowl and rabbits. Ths open duck season will continue until April 5th. During this time, however, hunters will be limited to the killing of but twenty four ducks per day.
The Lookout Society of the P. church will meet Wednesday Jan 3 at 2 p. m. in the basement of the church for the purpose of electing new officers for the coming year. A full attendance is desired.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON QLUB. Mrs. W. C. Dudding was the hostess yesterday for the Tuesday Afternoon Club and right royally entertained the ladies. Mrs. Sheldon, of Columbus., O., was a guest of the club. The refreshments were elegant.
THE COSMOS SOCIETY.

The ladies of the Cosmos Society are enthusiastic in praise of their entertainment yesterday afternoon by Mrs. Grace McKown at her .home, 202 North State street. It was the time for the annual election of officers, and the auditing of the books of the society for the past year. The customary refreshments or luncheon was omitted by the hostess, who paid into the treasury of the society an amount equal to the usual cost of this feature. The attendance was unusually large and the ladies never enjoyed a meeting more.
The society was reported ins good financial condition, all current expenses paid and $275 ia the treasury to pay on their pledge to the church.
The officers were Selected as follows: President,Mrs. Charles Henricks vice president. Mrs. Ward Fletcher secretary, Mrs Ben Caraway assistant secretary, Mrs.
