The present damp weather is likely to retard the gathering of corn material^ if it continues. Just now the late corn is at the stage where it needs ten days of dry sunshiny weather in order to make it mature properly and fit it for going- into market in the best order. To pile up a lot of corn in a crib unless it is good and dry means to have it heat and soon be ruined. The corn crop this year is too valuable to lose an ear of it that can be saved. It is a cash crop at all times and this year will bring good prices.,-
THE season in which the wants of the poor of our city attracts the most attention, is now approaching. The city charity organization anticipatf- ing this condition has opened permanent offices in the Goble ~blook on the east side of the square, which will be in charge of Miss Clara Heiser. xxxc report comes that the '-Czar of Russia has abdicated his If this is the price of between Russia and Japan, that portion of the world which understands the meaning and significance of the term "human liberty" will hope that the Czar may stay off the throne. However, the stirring •events that are transpiring in "Russia at this time cannot be measured by the occurrence of like events in this country. Here, the child that has just -started out on his first day to school understands more about human liberty than some men in Russia who are fifty years old. Here the practice of concession is apart of our national life and expansion of the mind, the hand and the heart are the lieart center of our form of government, while in Russia, the great masses of the people have suffered so long from repression and oppression that they will be along time learning bow to govern themselves.

THEY PLAYED SHELBYVILLE it,
wm
Local Football Players' Went Jo Fairland.
The lads who went to Fairlatid Saturday to play that town's high school team say thev were up against Shelby ville. One of the players said: "The second high school team played Shelby ville Business College and was defeated, 32 to 6. This was not so bad."'
Shelbyville's average weight was 170 lbs. while the local lads was 135 lbs. The boj^s went to Fairland expecting- to play Fairland high school, but when they arrived they found one player from Fairland high school and ten from Sh^lbyville Business College.
One of the principat events of the game was when the local lads backs were playing behind the Shelbyville's fifty yard line and }^oung Eph. Marsh made an end run of 100 yards and made a touch down, but was brought back fifty yards on account of an error. An end run by Ray mond Fair made the only touch down as the wonderful run
made by Marsh was discounted. The line up was: Ed Wright, center Arthur Woodall, right guard Rollo Lay ton, right tackle Chester Robb, right end Harry Wilson, left guard Ed Banna, left tackle Ray Fair, left end Oscar Stevens, captain, left half back Eph Marsh, right half back Clyde Windsor, full back Harry Hendricks, quarter back.»
The Shelbyville team comes here Nov. 18, and manager Hendricks promises a good game.

THE ROLL CALL MEETING
Marks, an Era in Pythian Circles in This City.
The annual roll call meeting ot the Knights of Pythias that was held at the Castle hall 'of Eureka Lodge No. 20, last night was a decided success. By seven o'clock the Sir Knights began to assemble and when the hour of eight arrived and the Chancellor Commander dropped the gavel there were over one hundred members of the order in the room. .«»
On every face beamed a smile of welcome and an expression of good will and fraternal regard. In every shake of the hand there was the grasp of friendship that marks the true Pythian and manly man wherever he may be found. The silent spirit of true unassuming charity pervaded the whole atmosphere of the place, and every one felt that it was good to be there.
The uniform rank presented a most dapper and tidy appear ance in their natty and sensible attire,
The regular order of business having been transacted the ceremony of initiation began, and one candidate was instructed in the mysteries of the rank of page. The rank was exemplified in the most attractive manner and the workers showed a familiarity with their duties that was very pleasing to all observers present.
a
The charges that were delivered from the various sta tions, were rendered in the most approved manner. Will Service as Chancellor Commander took the house so completely by surprise that many wondered why he was not over at the court house making speeches before juries instead of being a merchant.
The principal feature of the evening was the roll call of the members.
This part of the program proved very interesting and entertaining. The members present responded promptly to their names, and ma1ny regrets were read from those who could not be there.
After all the business had transacted, both relative to the roll call, initation and other wise, an elegant lunch of ice cream, cake, sandwiches and coffee was served which made every one present a little happier, if possible,! than they were before.

Deafness Cannot Be Cured
by local applications as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing and when it is entirely closed, Deafness is the result, and unless the inflamation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal conditiou, hearing will be destroyed forever nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed conditiou of the mucous surface.
We will give One Hundred dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Send for circulars, tree.

Grand Indian-
Opera House apolis.
The patrons of the Grand will next week be afforded the opportunity to witness the marvelous exhibition of Colonel Gaston Bordeverry, the world's greatest marksman and sharpshooter, who has been creating an unusual sensation in the vaudeville houses of the east since his arrival in this country from Prance. The act to be seen at the Grand is the only one of its kind that ever appeared at New York's Hippodrome, and is the original exhibition fjom which all others are copied.! t.'
The colonel carries5 four people to assist him in his act and pose as targets. One of his feats is to shoot a lump of sugar from between the foreheads of two of his men. He plays the piano with a Winchester and closes his act with a decided sensation. A woman clad in opera cloak and even clothes enters and he shoots her clothes from her until she stands in tights.
An extra attraction has been secured for the week in the little comedy, "The Sheriff," presented by Edmund Day and his company of associate players. "The Queen's Fan," a tunefu operetta, written by Baldwin Sloan and Geerge Totten Smith, will be given here for tne first time by a trio of clever young women who have been making a great success in vaudeville Oriska Worden, Lucille, George and Adele Archer. This act, will be novelty. £4-
Thorne and Carlton', a good pair of fun makers, will be on the program, and will provide plenty of amusement with a new farcical sketch, and Les Parsiennes, a couple of famous French dancers, will appear in a graceful terpsichorean act. The De Koe Brothers, European acrobats, M'lle Emmy, with aer trained dogs, and Talbot and Rogers, singing_c©medians, will contribute attractive specialties, and the bioscope, with series of interesting motion pictures, will round out what promised to be one of the most inviting vaudeville shows ff the entire season.
The tax duplicates Will positively be closed at the close of November 6, 1905. Those failing to pay their taxes at that time will be delinquent. 17tl8
