Charlie Winn announces that he will be a candidate for councilman for the First ward, subject to the decision of the Democratic convention, to be held in this city, October 10, 1905.

Mr. Hill, formerly of Illinois, who has purchased the old James Tyner farm in Brandy wine township, was in the city Friday. Mr. Hill is much pleased with Indiana and especially with Hancock county.
The first quarterly meeting of the conference year will be held at the Methodist Protestant church this evening at 7:30. Tomorrow morning will be devoted to the sacramental service. In the evening the pastor will have for his subject "Christ -Stilling the Tempest."

A Wayne county farmer entered an objection to serving on a jury and when pressed by the attorneys for a reason replied: "My wife wants to go to the fair and she says I have to go with her so I don't see how I can possibly serve on this jury.''
Tom Nusome, of Greenwood, former chief train dispatcher of the Indianapolis and Columbus Southern railway, has leased the Stev White property on East South street and will hereafter be connected with the Indianapolis and Eastern railway.
Richard Allen of Coles county, Illinois, is visiting friends in this city and county. Mr. Allen is a brother of George Allen of North State street and Wilson Allen of East Main street Richard Allen married a daughter of Jacob Catt, but she died some years ago, leaving six children, four of whom are here with their father on the visit. Mr. Allen and his sons are prosperous farmers in the black prairie soil region of Coles county. Thev say the crops in that section were never better and that there is np end to the amount of corn and oats they will raise.

The Democrat city central committee met at the farmer's room in the court house last night and canvassed questions of importance concerning the convention and the closing days of the campaign. The thirty day poll also came up for consideration.
Waterworks superintend Floyd Spangler flushed the water mains last night and cleaned them thoroughly. This process is undergone about once a month in order that the city water may be cleared of all its impurities. No city in the state can show a flow of water any purer than ours and it is well taken care of.
Jasper Woods who for some time has been living on North East stre2t, will move next week to the farm of Chas Bailey near Willow. Mr. Woods is a splendid farmer and the landlord who secures his services will be fortunate. He is honest industrious and careful in everything he does and is jusf the kind of a man in whom an important trust can be reposed

Jonathan Hiday was granted a divorce Saturday from his wife Alice Hiday who was not present in court as she is said to be in Indianapolis. Infidelity and other charges were made against the wife.

Joe McBride, of Shelbyville,a newspaper man of many years experience, seems to have lost his temper a few days ago and got into a "mix" with Mart Sorden a former livery man, and as a result "Uncle Joe" was arrested and lined.
Lon Low proposes to keep his vehicles well protected by city licenses. He has quite a number of wagons running all the time and never knows how soon he may have to put on others so be keeps plenty of licenses on hand.
The Y. P. S. C. E. of the Christian church will hold a special service on Sunday evening Oct. 8th. An excellent program has been arranged. At the Conclusion ot the services the society will be reorganized, and all the old members and many new ones are especially invited to be present. The meeting will begin promptly at 5:30
S. L. Wallace, the tax ferret, who has been here since last March, going over the records of the county in search of property that has been ommitted from the tax list, is still busily engaged as is county assessor Amasa Cohee. He cannot yet tell how long it will take him to run the remainder of the books as th£ work is very tedious and must be carefully done.
Thedetective who sued the Henry County commissioners for the $500 reward for the murderer of Mrs. Starbuck, has had his trouble for his pains thus far. He venued the case to this county and where it was brought up. It was dismissed on the ground that the case was not finally disposed of ujitil the Supreme Court

The rattling of the hickory nut is heard in the land as it loosens its hold on its parent stem and goes rattling from branch to branch until it finally rests in the brown leaves at the foot of the tree Then it is that the small boy with his bare feet and his two wheeled cart goes hiking to the woods and comes back with a broad smile and a sack, full of hickory nuts.
