GREAT! HORSE

Greenfield Animal Promises a Wonderful Speed

In clays that are passed this city andjj county has furnished the race courses of the country some line animals, but none of them were better than a young Greentield mare promises to be that is in training" at the State fair grounds. Miss Cadmos is tiue years old and is owned by Smith Hutchison. The Western Horseman, the acknowledged authority among horsemen of the United States, has the following notice of the mare in this week's issue. The writer of the notice was present and saw Miss Cadmos work. He says: "Miss Cadmos, a trimly built five-year-old bay mare by Greystone, dam by Hambrino, owned by Smith Hutchison, of Greenfield, and in the stable of Float Jolly at the Indiana State fair grounds, is one of the best race prospects at the Indianapolis track. She has already been a mile in 2:13 1-2, and a quarter in thirty-two seconds seems but play to her/'

ThelReeves Reunion.

The Reeves reunion will be held tomorrow at Spring Lake Park. Judging by past years and present indications the crowd![will be one of the largest that has ever attended a local reunion.

Last year the family met at the home near Knightstown. Five hundred persons wTere present. This time the place is one that is much more easily reached and earnest efforts have been made to reach everyone interested, hence an unusually large attendance is expected.

Man}- of the family live near Knightstown. Columbus, Ind., is the home of another branch that has become quite well known. As is usual at affairs of this sort, no set program has been planned. All will be left to enjoy themselves in perfect freedom. A base ball game is to be played.

Dr. Matthews, proprietor of the park, is arranging especially so that his visitors may have a comfortable and enjoyable day

Water Analyzed.

Mr. E. E. Mathews, Spring Lake Park Dear Sir:—The two samples of water submitted to me for analysis show7 the following results. No. 1, well south of ice cream stand, used by campers and No. 2, north of the ice cream stand are from the same water source and practically identical. The sanitary test show these samples free from chlorine and nitrites. This water is, therefore, free from surface drainage and decomposition, perfectly potable and free from germ product. I can cheerfully recommend this water for domestic purposes. Chemical analysis show the following composition of each sample. Silicon 004 Calcium Sulphate 175 Calcium Carbonate 040 Magnesium 1242 Sodium Chloride 100 Iron Oxide 1(527|

THE DAY IS PJ

But Little More Pap. From Straw.

The day of making from straw7 in Indiana, ing to the Wabash Times4 has gone, and the industry be confined to localities where conditions are more favorable. The mill at Eaton, Ind., is down and has been down for a long time. It is unlikely that the mill will ever be run again npon the product that caused its construction. The same is true of the mills at Albany, Jonesboro and elsewhere. Briefly stated, the failure of gas was the finishing stroke. The Hartford City mill is making paper from old newspapers and rag stock.

The Wayne is making a high grade of wrapping paper from rope, rags and old papers. It is said that the high quality of the product of both mills in their lines is certain to find a ready market at prices that will give a good profit over the cost of manufacturing.

THE SEISES DANCE.

It la Keputed to Have Originated With the Apostles.

At Seville, in Spain, the dances of the "seises" are gravely reputed to have originated in the apostles having fallowed the example set by David and daneed around our Lord after the last supper. While St. Augustine contemned the dance devotional. St. Cbrysostom is said to have taken part in it, and, notwithstanding a prohibitory decree of !)'-!, it was exceedingly popular in Spain at the commencement of the seventeenth century. During certain ceremonies the seises dance daily before the high altar of Seville cathedral in the presence of enormous crowds, including the archbishop and all the. "Now." writes and eyewitness, "the dancing boys are dressed in the costume of Philip and Mary's days, with short capes, an abundance of streamers, plumed hats and white silk shoes. The organ is supplemented by a string band. The old world air and song of the seises have been compared to the music of a comic opera. After sundry movements the castanets are used. "Now," writes an eyewitness, "the dance grows faster and more varied—a chasse croise is succeeded by a circular figure, in which the dancers follow each other round and round, swaying their bodies as they sing rhymed couplets in the soft, slovenly accent of Andalusia.

A DANGEROUS LIQUID.

Hydrofluoric Acid la Most Safely

Kept In Golden Bottles.

A gold bottle stood on the chemist's table. "In that bottle," he said, "my hydrofiuroic acid is kept. Hydrofluoric acid is used in glass etching. The etching on glass thermometers is ail done with it. It is colorless. It looks like water, but. a drop of it on your hand would bore clean through to the other side like a bullet. lis inhalation is sure death. "Hydrofluoric acid can be kept safely in gold bottles alone. Sometimes bottles of india rubber, of lead or of platinum are used. None of these, though, is as safe as gold. "Even when this acid is in a gold bottle precautions must be taken with it. It is volatile, and hence a paraffin covered plate must be clamped tight over the bottle's mouth also, the temperature of the room must not rise over 60 degrees or the gold bottle will burst. "This acid, whose sole use is in gla etching, is probably the most dangerous thing in the world to work with. The steeplejack, the lion tamer and the diver do not take their lives in their hands to half the extent the glass etcher does when. ivjth his gold vial of hydrofluoric acid, he etches the scales of our thermometers." —..Philadelphia Bulletin.

A Famous Bcujty.

Mine, de Kemusat had features so perfect that her contemporaries said she was worthy to sit as a model for a Greek goddess. The flesh of her face closely resembled alabaster, and yet she was not pale and did not give the impression of being in delicate health. Her beauty attracted universal attention to her, no matter where she went, and even in old age she retained most of her good looks. "Oh, yes, he's quite an enthusiast He goes.in for things in real earnest." "Yes, if some one were to send him on a wild goose chase he'd speak of himself afterward as a sportsm«n."— Philadelphia Press.

His Opposite.

She—They say that persons of opposite qualities make the happiest marriages. He—That's why I'm looking for a girl with money.

Alpine Accident*.

The figures relative to Alpine accidents in Switzerland last year again Indicate that descending is more dangerous than ascending. Contrary to popular belief, falling into the crevasse of a glacier is a comparatively harmleas process. Last year, as usual, none of these cases proved fatal.
