Judge Gooding says it is laughable to see the Democrats, so called "Sound money men or gold bugs," followers and shouters for the Cleveland policy just falling all over themselves trying to get into the Democratic free silver bandwagon in Indiana. The Judge further remarks that some of them have been converted too suddenly for the conversion to be thoroughly sound.

Lawrence Boring returned today from Kansas City where he has been as one of the state delegates to the general conference of the M. P. Church. He reports a very enthusiastic meeting. The people of Kansas City have given the church 176 acres of land adjoining the city as a site for a college and the purpose is to establish a school there, Heinz the pickle manufacturer who was a lay member of the conference donated $10,000 toward the school. Mr. Boring reports great storms and floods in the west. He said he traveled for miles Friday with the water stretch ing out on each side of the railroad for a mile or more. The dust did not bother any one. Crop3 are looking about like they are here when not washed out. He said the sight of old Hancock Co. again was a delightful sight to him.
John Rhue who has been at Annapolis, Md. for the past month returned home Friday. He failed to pass the final examination, which would entitle him to admission to the Naval Academy. Out of 73 examined only 7 were passed on the first examination. The number being so small the papers of fifteen others who had stood sufficiently high in mathematics, were taken up and re-examined to pass them if the papers would warrant. Mr. Rhue's papers were among the fifteen sets re-examined, but he failed to get a passing grade. His grade was high in all branches, being extra good in mathematics except in history, where he unfortunately stumbled, but some of the questions were posers sure, and hardly what one would expect. Eleven out of the fifteen given a second chance, passed making 18 in all out of 73. We should be glad to see Mr. Rhue retain the appointment and take another trial for admission this fall. Ho is a bright and capable young man and would make a good cadet. The standard of admission is high, but naval cadetships are now very desirable appointments, much more so than those at West Point. In view of the big increase in the navies of all the first class powers there will be some fine appointments for capable graduates.
