Mrs. Dr. Lochhead returned Tuesday from Thorntown where she had been visiting her parents. She was accompanied by her sister, Miss Jaques, who came for a short visit.

Mr. Morton Wallace, of Alexandria, who has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Viola Kirkpatrick, returned home today accompanied by Mrs. Kirkpatrick's children who will visit their grandmother and other relatives.

O. W. Danielson, the jeweler, who recently Jeft here and proposed to ride to California on a bicycle, got discouraged when he struck vhe Illinois roads and stopped in Chicago. He was fortunate in securing a position there and is now at work at his trade in the Windy city.

Mrs. A. L. Wetherald, of Frankton, Ind. and Mrs. Thomas Wetherald, of California, are here visiting the former's daughter, Mrs, S. R. Wells. The ladies are on their way for a summer visit in the Ea^t with relatives, and they also expect to spend some time at Epworth Park.

Tuesday George Hoppes' horses becams scared and ran away. They started at bis slaughter house a mile and a half South of town and run to Barr & Morford's blacksmith shop on State street. The only damage done was two spokes broken from a wheel and five rod of fence knocked down at the slaughter house.

I have had Miss Anna Pearl Cogswell on two former occasions in my church at New Salem, and do not hestitate to say that she knocks out many of the 35 and 50 cenu entertainments. She is graceful, natural and elloqueut. Her modesty unexcelled and character beyond reproach.

Rev. T. H. Kuhn, the successful and popular pastor of the Christian church at Tipton has received a call to the Christian church at Kokomo, which is one of the largest and most prosperous churches in the State. Rev. Kuhn is a ripe scholar and eloquent, forcible and convincing preacher and a popular pastor. He has had great success at Tipton and with other churches where he has labored. The REPUBLICAN takes great pleasure in noting the advancement of Rev. Kuhn as he is an old Brown township boy vnd has won all the success he ha* attained by earnest, faithful work.

Mr. 0. P. Wellman, of Rushville, is here today attending the funeral of Rev. S. M. Lowden, his old friend and former pastor. Mr. Wellman i3 a prominent citizen of Rushville.

Tuesday evening a horse hitched to a buggy and belonging toEd Ellis, became scared and ran from in front of H. B. Thayer's store to Mr. Ellis's farm, two miles west of this city. The buggy and harness were badly torn up.

The funeral services of Rev. S. M. Lowden were conducted at his late residence on West North street, by Dr. S. H. Flood, of Stinesville, Ind assisted by Revs. W. L. Martin and E. W- Sowders. Rev. Lowden was one of the oldest ministers of the Indiana conference of the M. P. church, and owing to the continued illness of his wife, he has for several years held the relation of local evangelist.

Last week Dr. Charles Bell, of Philadelphia, went to Irvington to visit his uncle, Prof. William Thrasher, of the chair of mathmetic3 at Butler. After being there two days he went to Indianapolis, saying ho wanted to buy some surgical instruments, and did not return. His father at Philadelphia was informed of his absence and a search made for him, but he has not been heard of yet.

Dr. Bell was located in this city in the office of Dr. King about a year ago. His relatives and friends cannot find anything that would account for his dissappearance.

Tuesday was divorce day ia the Circuit Court and the following cases were tried: Martha Pickering vs. Charles F. Pickering for divorce. She charged cruel and inhuman treatment. The court held the evidence waa not sufficient to grant a divorce and continued the ease until more evidence could be secured. Felt & Walker were attorneys for plaintiff and Spencer & Binford and Downing for the defendant.

Mtry F. Fisher was granted a divorce from Granville Fisher. She charged cruel and inhuman treatment and failure to provide. Spencer & Biniord were lawers for plaintiff and Charles Downing for defendant.

Sa»-ah E Ellis was granted a divorce from Charles Ellis on a charge of cruel and inhuman treatment. R. A. Black was attorney for plaintiff and Mason & Jackson for defendant

William Johns vs Florence Johns, in a case for divorce charged abandonment. The conrt held the evidence was not sufficient and continued the. case. Mason & Jackson were attorneys for plaintiff and Charles Downing for defense.

Laura Gapen was granted a divorce from Loren Gapen on the oharge of cruel treatment and habitual drunkednees. Spencer & Binford, attorneys for plaintiff and Poulson & McBane lor the defense.

In the case of Dr. N. P. Howard vs. Eliza Mitchell, suit on account for medical services rendered, the court held that as the plaintiff did not hold a license to practice medicine under the new law of 1891 he could not collect fees for his services. This was an important decision as but lew of the doctors in the county have license undes the new law. After the decision there was a rush of doctors to get license.

F. A. Meek and family of Indianapolis, visited his father, O. F. Meek Sunday. Miss Flora Mace has been quite sick, but is now some better.

Frank Kelly spent several days at Indianapolis last week. Jacob Davis has received the contract for carrying the mail for the coming year.

Rev. Charles Pritchard attended quarterly meeting at Walnut Ridge Saturday and Sunday.

Miss Edna Hawk is attending normal at Greenfield. Benjamin Elliott has improved his property with cement walks.

Mrs. Wm. Hutton has been suffering from a sprained ankle. H. T. Grant, of Indianapolis, was the guest of John Moore over Sunday.

Quite a large crowd attended the bap tizing at Sugar creek Sunday afternoon.

MOHAWK.

Cut worms and dry weather make a bad showing for the farmers at this season of the year.

John Williams has Sylvanus Campbell's house ready to plaster. He somtrences on a large barn for Kasper Herr this week.

Last Saturday night quite a number of '•pale-faces" from this place wended their way over to Fortville and were converted in to "Indian braves." Sunday you could hear a long, sleepy moan and some one would say, "Bill, have you heard from Geo. Bob or the boys.

Quite a number from here went to the baptizing at Philadelphia Sunday. Last Saturday morning R. L. Barnard while tapering a wedge on the woodworker, got his left hand caught in the knives and horribly mangled. The front finger was unjointed and one more will probably be left stiff.

Geo. J. Herr and wife, of Ingalls, spent Sunday with Kasper Herr and family. The church will soon be ready for the plasterers.

Wm McConnell has moved his house that stood back in the wood3 onto the ground recently bought of J.
