WEATHER REPORT.

Fair tonight and Friday, warmer Friday.

It is generally conceded that the Democrats are licked in advance this year. Even if that is the case it is no time for Republicans to fall out and go to thumping each other. Let all our strength be saved for the Democracy and with every member of the Grand JOld Republican Party standing shoulder to shoulder present a silid front all along the line and the grandest victory will be won ever known in the history of the party.

THE Democrats will select county candidates at tbeir primary next Saturday. There is a great fight on. The REPUBLICAN will not now venture to precict who will be the winner. The men who are ahead now may be turned down by the powers that be, when they meet later and decide just who the nominees, must be. It is understood that the ticket will be named and word sent to the henchmen

around over the couuty the that votes must come up that way. This may not result satisfactorily to all the candidates and their friends.

Now that the congressional nomination is practically settled, we trust that all bitter telling or controversies if any such there be, in this county, growing oat of the contest be laid aside and forgotten. That such will be the case we have no doubt as the leaders on both sides have always expressed their desire and willingness to support with their greatest zeal, imestness aud enthusiasm the npminee, no matter who should be successful. With Jounson and Watson to choose between no intake could have been made as both are able, eloquent, vigorous and untiring workers. There will be a vigorous campaign in this district, especially in Hancock county and th«» voices of both men will be heard pleading for Protection, Heciprocity, Prosperity and Progress.

A glass eye may, it is said, be used only six to twelve months. The humors of the eye corrode the glass and cause it to become rough, thus irritating the delicate membrane and necessitating a renewal of the false optic.

Many insects in their perfect state are provided with compound eyes—that is, eyes composed of numerous facets covered with a common cornea. It is not known whether each facet gives a different impression or whether all the images are combined into one.
