Mr aud Mrs. H. L. Strickland entertained a number of their friends in a delightful manner at their handsome home on North State ssreet last evening. The party wa« given in henor of Mrs. Strickland's brother, Hou. Albert L. New, of Denver. Col, who was here visiting his mother and other relatives. The evening was spent very pleasantly with|games and conversation, and at a late hour dainty and delicious refreshments for which tbe hostess has a most enviable reputation were served. The evening passed so rapidly that the parry broke up only a t»w moments before the electric .lights were turned out.

Asa M. New aud wife of Indianapolis, were present and enjoyed the occasion. Mr New, departed for his home in Denver this morning. He is much* pleased with his position and the country*and so far as ideas and opinions go is a thorough Westerner.

prof. Geo, S. Wilson's Republicanism Hurting the lemocrat.

The Democrat said in its last issue: "Our city schojls have again entered the political field." In another place it speaks of the laborious work done by |the Supt of the city schools in the Republican township convention. The Democrat winds up with the sententious statement: "It will not be many moons until the present condition of affairs are righted in our city schools." Yos, there are a few changes to be made, and the School Board and Prof. Wilson will, after due consideration, make them.

If thn Democrat is so solicitons about a school official taking au interest in politics, it might keep its eye on County Supt. Quitman Jackson when the campaign opens up this fall. He always enters the political fight in a vigorous manner, both in the nominations and elections, and the REPUBLICAN has never lectured or scolded him about it either. It would do just about the 6ame good that the Democrat's harping does in ProL Wilson's case, aad that is none at all, and betldea, would disgust all fair minded men who believe that every man is entitled to his own political opinions and in carrying then out by voice and actions.
