Howlm# (ir«*en Krviev. (Pern.) It will be seen by reference to the columns of the /{ri'ii ir that Col. A. T. I lose has announced his name as canadidate for Judge of the lath Judicial District composed of tho ! counties of I’utnam and Clay. Col. Bose is perhaps one of the oldest practicing attorneys in the district. He served bis country with honor and distinction, both in the Mexican and the war for tho preservation of the Union, being wounded in both wars, and be will carry to his grave the j wounds that be received in the latter war. He is also one of our mosthigli toned, dignified and eloquent attormcs. ThoCol. has hitherto acted with the Republican party, but be is a Republican of the original greenback school of polities, and has always held and advocated the doctrine that the money that was good enough to pay 1 the soldier was good enough to pay the bondholder. So far as capability and honesty arc concerned, there could perhaps be no better selection made in the district. The only tiling we reI gret is that the Col., possessing such good and sterling principles, does not vote the Democratic ticket.

(Hi! you ibip d and hoodwink'd people, Listen while I bold my "grab;’' In this land of Bible readers Congressmen bold what they nab. Why did not Mr. Voorhces hunt up this poor family and divide bis “grab" with them? Did he need it all to buy fine jewelry and to pay the expenses of himself and family in visiting watering places and playing the grandee? What a shame that a man with $5,000 so easily made should leta whole family starve to death and not offer a cent to alleviate their sufferings and save their lives! And then this family starved to death right under the nose of Mr. Tildcn, the Democratic Mogul, and ho is worth his millions, made by wrecking railroads and refusing to pay his taxes, and he never offered a cent to stop this great distress. Ah, what genuine sympathy, then, these •paid and trusted leaders'’ have for the poor! Heaven is sure to bless
them!
"Conciliated.” Fx-Attorncy-Genciwl Ackerman, of Georgia, has been interviewed. The Independent movement in bis State, lie says, practically amounts to nothing. The South, he says, is solid, and, in his opinion, will continue so till after I8RO lie hits the nail when lie says the Independent movement is confined exclusively to the Democratic party, and consists in one candidate attempting to prove that he is a better Democrat than another. As to the policy of conciliation, Mr. Ackerman

The Silver Monetary Conference. The international monetary conference held at Paris adjourned last week. The American delegation urged some positive action, but only obtained a declaration formulated in the reply ol the European delegates. A correspondent summarizing the general results of tbe conference says existing complications preclude tbe formation of a monetary union. Tho hnglish delegates pronounce tho consequences of German demonetization disastrous. Monometalism is advocated by only three small states. The sentiment against further demonetization of silver is overwhelming. 1’hc influence of the conference is deemed important for the future of silver. The European delegates adopted resolutions thanking the United Nates for bringing about an exchange of opinion on important monetary questions; also, stating that in view ot tbe divergence of opinion which lias been manifested, and the impossibility even of states having a double-standard or making any ongagment relative to the unlimited mintage of silver, there is no ground for discussing the question of any internationl ratio between the two metals. Ruseoni, of Italy, stated that the conference had not decided that a ratio between gold and silver was impossible, and as under the French law onlv slight fluctuations occurred, so a bi-metalic treaty between France, Fugland, and the United States might fix a permanent ratio. The Belgian and Swiss delegates held a double standard impractiable. Goschcn, of England, considered a universal gold standard inconvenient and dangerous, but he also considered an international ratio of value between the two metals impossible. The city government of Louisville is Democratic, and last year, according to the Mayor’s message, tbe expenses exceeded the revenues *85,000. It has beon discovered by Minnesota farmers that two acres of sunflowers will supply a family with fuel through a long winter. The wood of the stalks and the oil of the seeds make a roaring and cheerful lire. Temperance people wonder why, after years of their preaching against intemperance, their own boys sometimes turn out drunkards. Search your political record and count your votes given to the whisky interest. There is a great middle class among i us that keeps quiet, attends to its business, puts a few dollars now and then in the savings bank, and goes through life without making any noise or e pecially asserting itself. It is a class which the industrious, temperate, economical laborer aspires to join and can nearly always lift himself up to. The majority of the real property in this country is held by the farmers. There are more farmers and their sons who own the land they cultivate than there are farm laborers who own no property; and if the rights of property are to be assailed by the Labor Reform Communists, the farmers of the country arc to be the great sufferers. Is it a Monopoly? Koltim (KanssiM) Ueconh'r. V ere Grant’s money views any harder three years ago than Mr. Tbuitnau s? 11 Mr. l liurmaii can change his principles from those of a hard money man entertained three years ago so as to put himself on a.Democratic inflation platform in 188(7, could not General Grant manage to run on a reasonable Greenback platform? or have Democrats a monopoly of the privilege of changing their polities to suit the circumstances by which thev may be surrounded? Say? Democratic Paper After Dr. McMullen. hnnvillo Dpiiiocrat. I lie Methodist C-hureh is not responsible for Elder McMullen’s political harangues from tho pulpit any more than the better class of Republicans are responsible for the indorsement tho Union gives him. ll in Ids party zeal tbe Elder forgets his calling, and sows the seeds of bitterness and strife among men, instead of advocating and urging the adoption of Christ’s teachings— “Du earth peace, good will toward men - we do not think the church should be held responsible any further than the indorsement it gives’ him.
