“ WHEN COLLEGE OPENS. ’ Now girls, let me beg of you with "tears in my eyes ami my fists doubled up" not to make yourselves ridiculous, just because "college” opens next week, ricase don’t sicken every sensible person by your astonishing eagerness to behold again the dear five hundred students. Vrny have dignity enough just to goon, in the "even tenor” of your ways, without betraying such marked interest in the ‘ boys:’ Really it turns my stomach when I come to town, to sell my hotter and eggs, during"term time.” I can’t enter a store or turn a corner but, lo you! 1 am confronted and half run over by a bevy of girls,(youny/odiea, I should have ant'd,) with hair braided n la mode, intently occupied In dissecting some hapless "fellow” who has just passed, all unconscious, beneath their Argus eyes. Soch expressions ns, "Look how he walks!” “Did you rrrr see such an ugly coat!” ’''Gin cious alive! what au enormous foot!” "Oh! for heaven’s sake, see what greatsquaro sliouldels,” ,1c , are showered out from httlf-dosen gaping, mouths, while bold, staring eyes fol low the unfortunate object of tluir remarks until he is out of sight, or until another swain presents himself to undergo the same process I

of annihilation.

And another thing, girls, is it positively and absolutely necessary for every last ono of you ) ' to storm the Post Office and lake it by assault whenever the iniul opens—lo the niter egclu- , ► ion of all others? Is it so very important for you to be attended to ihat you can’t wait until the "boys" from the College get away from the side walk, which they generally monopolize ? Must you just ru>h right in and

Perhaps, too, it may not be amiss for me to state, for the edification of thosa unfortunate “Collegians,” who have been guilty of such a breach of good manners, that it is highly impropor.&tol exceedingly impolite for them to spend all their spare time lounging on store corners, with their legs dangling like plummets from the sides of the empty boxes, on which they

are perched, as show figures, I presume.

Seems to me, too, if liny spent more tirou studying their lessons, they w ould have other use lor their eyes than to ymrtt at every woman who chattel s to come along. I must say it’s quite annoying to the ladies to have every mo tion and step noticed and commented on by the group of lazy, good for-nothing, ill mannered men and boys that obstructs every "corner” and passage Certainly, there is room

for improvement in this respect.

Truly, have 1 had reason to congratulate myself (as I am in the habit of doing daily) that I don’t live in "town.” I should be scandalized 1 know, fifty times a week tit tbe "way things do go on”—as Aunt Uctsy pnthot ically says. To tell the truth I feel consi.lernbly concerned about the gills—especially as

the time for Oillrye to op.-n draws near.

Poor things! How they will primp] and what infinite pains they will take to make a good appearance—particularly on the ‘ first Sunday." The hitherto neglected Church will become suddenly possessed of a magnetic attraction for them. 1 intend coming in to meet iugon that particulur day, just to see tire unit sual number of young ladies which will doubtless be present, to offer up tneir thauksi/iviny

From the facts before us wc are not jit tilled in holding Mr. Moore, tho county IWc-cu-tor, responsible for the release of this villain, or with a want of due dilligciicc in prosecuting him. Crane s father was written to and came on .and purchased the notes which his son had Jonjcd and before the day of trial came on. the father (who sports the title of a minister in the F.piseopal Church) with the notes had departed to his home in the Last. It is btated that it was necessary to present these notes in Court or on the trial of the accused in order to make out a ease against him; but as they had been
