POET'S C0212TER.

FROM TUE NEW-VORK JOURNAL. Mr. Editor You know what meddling fel lows the beaux are.how incessant in their atten

tions when we least wish them and to what an

inconceivable trouble they putus, &: sometimes

how we are obliged to make ourselves presents

to them, heart and hand, in order to avoid their persecuting suits. I generally, when 1 wish to

get rid of them, present them an album, and

request an original piece of poetry, and sooner than com pi v, thev verv often desert me : not always however; and I send you a song, which one of them has written, to be sung when he is

married, as he says. ANN ELIZA. Come with me to the mountain side, My loved and lovely one; Til weave a wreath for my young bride, As bright as morning sjii A wreath of love, a wreath of flowers, So' blooming fair and young, TIi at Eden's bride, in Eden's bower, Its beauties might have sung. Come with me to the mountain's side, Where wild 'dowers bloom so brightly; Til pluck them all for the young bride, Whose bosom beats so lightly: Not all, not all I'll only cull The brightest and the fairest. Tor love bestows on hearts so full No roses but the dearest. Come with mc to the mountain side, While morning sun is beaming, 111 sing a song for the young bride Whose eyes with love are beaming; While dew-drops linger on the leal, And turtles wake the grove With notes of sadness and of grief, J, 11 sing a song of love.

FROM THE CONMTT1CIT MiRKOR. The dead leavs strew hc fret walks.

And wither'd are the paie wild flower. The frost har.ffs blackening on the stalks,

The dew drops fill in frozen showeis.

The case, however, of most confirmed drunk

ards, is irremediable. But though for-should be reclaimed by this pointed, tl-it ztir.H-mg ne-

rlect. vet it is believed many, vera Aiinu, would

be deterred trom entering 1 1. e : ;;i. uur hopes are principally from the rising generation. To them, in a good degree, is committed

the destiny ot our land. In proportion to tneir virtue, or to their vice, our country will be happy or miserable ;we should, therefore, guard them against vice in general. Good parental government is the life of good society, and that community in which no attention is paid to the

moral culture ol the youtli is rapidly hastening

to infamv and disgrace. 'It cairn

country, since its inhabitant, are unworthy of jby the purchase n giving their note v.,,
