America's invincible optimism is speeding her gaily along the road toward destruction." "Klansmen are men who see and deplore the ills of the present, and who likewise have a vision of redemption. And they see the way to avert that tragedy. Our organization exists to serve and to save." "We are here to take an inventory, to make more efficient the movement, to extend our borders to review the Klan of yesterday, to analyze the Klan of today, to build for the Klan of tomorrow." "This is no time to befog our minds with undue self-flattery. Instead, we 'must look all facts and situations squarely in the face. We must recognize our weakness as well as our strength, our failures as well as our successes. We must absorb every lesson experience offers, so that we may go forward increased in wisdom." "I tell you today, from the very bottom of my soul, that God has done a greater thing for the Klan than that of giving it human leadership. He has given it His Own Leadership." "As Klansmen, we are living in the fundamental period. We are laying the foundations of the greatest structure in the history of human progress." OTHER HIGH LIGHTS. The following high lights are short sentences taken from different addresses recently delivered by Dr. Evans on his Pacific coast trip : "America is not composed of just a few outstanding men." "The Klan itself is not a man-led, man-made, mancontrolled, man-imported piece of machinery." "God alone rules the universe." "Human beings have more good than bad in them." " "On election day we had an outpouring of patriotism." "We need a Supreme Court to save us in the hour of congressional hysteria." "The Supreme Court acts as our balance wheel." "The Klan defeated the forces of radicalism and Bolshevism and tied you back to the Constitution." Sweeping Inquiry Needed. THERE HAVE BEEN' many stories told about the inside working of the Veterans' Bureau, and no- doubt there are many others that can be truthfully told. Investigation after Investigation has brought out certain disclosures that have not reflected any credit on those charged with a great responsibility.

The Veterans' Bureau, judging from all that is known of It, must evidently be a place supposedly full of honey, and that brings to mind the oft repeated assertion that the bureau is honeycombed with something or other. There must be a honeycomb if honey is in abundance. It has often been asserted that the Veterans' Bureau

is honeycombed with P.oman Catholics and Jews in positions of power nnd responsibility. This does not neces

sarily refer to those at the top of the list, but it does have to do with those in executive positions such as

division chiefs, bureau chiefs and persons who have authority or power over those of the masses who really do

the work, and that is where the great mischief is done and the hardship Imposed on Protestants. According to the testimony of Protestants employed in the Veterans' Bureau there are certain marks of identification placed on examination papers of applicants of the Roniiin Catholic faith. These marks are watched for with great Interest by those of the same faith in positions of power and influence, and such papers are invariably accepted and the person placed in the best

advantage whether the examination grades warrant it

or not. Papers not bearing that mark are more rigidly

graded and watched, and the applicant is rejected if there

Is the slightest opportunity for such rejection in case

the applicant is a known Protestant.

There have been many cases reported where Roman

Catholic priests have gone to the Bureau or let those in

positions of responsibility knowjof their wish to place people of their own faith, and that sort of influence usually accomplishes more than the actual knowledge displayed when the examination is taken.

Women clerks especially have complained of th army

of Jews occupying positions of trust and power in the

Veterans' Bureau. They have the money idea uppermost in their minds and are declared to be tyrannical, dom

ineering and oppressive in their attitude toward women employes. They have little sympathy for persons of the opposite sex and rather take a delight in putting on the pressure instead of relieving distress. All of this sort of evidence is not mere run t. It comes from hundreds and thousands of Burei.u employes who speak from actual knowledge and experience. In other words it is a common complaint, the ersons seeing and realizing the injustice of the treatment

ARTICLE THIRTEEN (Each article is separate in itself.)

On December 23, Arthur Brisbane, speaking editorially, said:: "It is strange that war upon the Catholic church appears to be the most savage in countries that until lately were the most completely Catholic. In Mexico, land of many churches, there is openly shown much anti-Catholie-feeling. And in Argentine Republic, a great power of South America, the attorney general threatens to imprison the Roman Catholic bishop because he refuses to submit for government approval his credentials from Pope Pius." As Mr. Brisbane says, there is a "war" being waged on the Roman Catholic church m all parts of the world. But let us stop to consider for a moment. Just what is causing

The statement issued by the association of wh

President, asserts:

"That flags made in Japan are of such cheap material that when they become wet the colors run, and the result Is something that looks more like the red flag of bolshevik Russia than the flag of the United States," and that, "in spite of the great pressure that has been brought to bear on Congress by patriotic societies and others, It has steadfastly refused to enact a national law prohibiting the improper use of the flag, its fixed policy being to leave the matter to the states, the great majority of which have passed suitable laws onjhe subject. It would be futile only a loss of time, energy and money to try to get Congress to enact legislation regulating the Importation of flags of the United States. "The only practical solution of the problem is to educate properly the people of the United States in understanding the true symbolism of the flag and in paying the national emblem proper respect and reverence."

The sentiments expressed by the American Flag As

sociation and the remedy urged to relieve the situation will be heartily welcomed by the millions of members of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, one of whose cardinal principles is love and reverence for the Stars and Stripes. That the efforts of the association to use only such flags as are of American make, throwing such safeguards about their manufacture as will insure fitting symbols of our country, will receive the sincere support of Klansmen goes without saying. In passing, it might be well to note that in taking this stand, the American' Flag Association is pursuing a policy that Is entirely in keeping with Klan nought and sentiment, and that the Incident is a striking proof

that the day has arrived when the American people, as a whole, have rejected absolutely the auto-suggestive

whispering campaign of the hierarchy to discredit the

(.Protestant American organization. On the other hand.

Times of national confusion and calamity have always been productive of ' the strongest spirits and the bravest hearts. As the brightest lightning flames out of the darkest cloud, and the purest metal is refined In the hottest furnace, so are the greatest minds borne In the fiercest struggles of national determination.

War" on the Roman

Is it not that organization's intolerant attitude toward all things? The trouble in Argentina was caused because a Roman Catholic bishop re

fused to comply with tiie laws of that country. He felt that the Argentine government lias no right to question him. He had credentials from the pope and that was all that was necessary to his mind. In each instance

where "war" is being made on the Roman Catholic church, it is found that the Roman ecclesiastical empire is attempting to dominate, or is dominating, and showing its intolerant

attitude to the limit. Right at this time the Roman corporation is pretending the greatest respect of, and love for the Masonic fraternity. That is. in America, where the organization is a mightly factor in American life. But let us turn for the moment to Spain where the. Roman corporation is in full power. Following is a dispatch from Spain under date of December 21, less than a month ago: "Madrid, Dec. 21. Freemason lodges in Madrid were suppressed

today and any Masons attempting to hold meetings are threatened wtth arrest. The Masons are accused of liberalism."

The foregoing appeared in American newspapers on the date shown,

ana neiore going turtner. let us see just, what the Roman ecclesiastical

empire considers "Liberalism" to be. Not only dn Spain, but in all countries. The Roman Catholic church teaches npjiinst liberalism in America Just the same as in other countries. Teaches Doctrine in America. In the Manual of Christian Doctrine, a Roman Catholic textbook for use in

Roman ("'yt nolle schools, academies and colleger, and which bears the official sanction of Cardinal Dougherty, appears no pags 133, the following in regard to liberalism: "May the state separate itself from I he church?'.' "No. because it rtiay not withdraw f om the supreme rule of Christ." "What name is given to the doctrine that the state has neither the duty nor the right to be united . to the church to protect it?"

This doctrine is called Liberalism." "Why Is Liberalism to be condemned?" "Because it denies all subordination of the state to the church. Because it confounds liberty with

rit'ht. Because it despises the social dominion of Christ, and rejects the benefits derived therefrom." This doctrine is being taught in the United States in all Roman Catholic schools. The effect of it in other countries is emphasized by the dispatch from Madrid. At this time Masons in Spain are forbidden to meet. In this country the same power which

estopped Masons In Spain, has been

making every effort to stop Klansmen from meeting In the United States.

Many persons have been misled and are not yet clear on the subject. The

stopping of Masons from holding legal meetings in Spain gives an apt illustration of the Intolerance of the Roman Catholic church which is attempt

ing, although the efforts have been futile, to convince the American people that the Klan ts intolerant. As has been said before in these articles, the Roman Catholic corporation of Rome with its branch managers in America, declares everything intolerant which does not conform with the dictates of the president of the corporation, the popej of Rome. Roman Intolerance Displayed.

As an illustration of the extreme grip Rome has on Jts subjects, a brief mention" might be ) made of a recent

canon law enacted by the Vatican in which Roman Catholic parents, even though they do not desire to do- so, must name their children after a saint. In this enlightened age it hardly seems possible that any corporation or organization could dictate to parents what they should name their children. This is cited, however,

as it is in line with the intolerance practiced by the Roman organization. In reply to a question, on November 8, of last year, the Catholic Citizen says in regard, to baptism: "According to the New Canon law, priests should take care that a saint's name is given in baptism, and if they cannot persaade the parents to give the child a saint's name, they

must, when administering the sacrament, add the name of a saint and write both names in the parish register." In citing this particular case of intolerence, the reader will also be

come more aware of how easy.it is to

create in the Roman Catholic's mind

the belief that the Ku Klux Klan is intolerant. We believe that each

reader of this article will admit that

an organization such as the- Klan

formed to protect America from the in

roads being made by the Roman system, is not Intolerant because it rejects the beliefs and practices of a system that alway-B, when it has the power, inflicts intolerant acts on those who do not believe as it does. Many of the intolerant acts committed by Rome in Europe have not happened in the United States because the Roman corporation has not yet

reached that stage, where It felt confident it could accomplish . Its ends. When an American ponders the alfc

on the government by the Roman Catholics of that country? Demand Church and State. AVhile the situation in France is appearing daily in the newspapers, it might be well to reprint here a dispatch out of Paris on November 19 last. The dispatch reads in part: "French clericals are mobilizing all their forces for a war to the

bitter end against the Herriot government. Ued by six Cardinals who represent French Catholics at the Holy See, they are planning a campaign throughout the country with the object of restor

ing as tar as possible the rights of the clergy of which they were deprived by the separation laws of 19(14. "Extremists among them do not conceal the fact that they are aiming at the return of the regime of the concordat, negotiated by Napoleon with the pope, whereby the Catholic church was recognized as the state church." The Roman Catholic corporation de

nies each day that it wishes church and state united. In spite of this it is teaching it in its schools in Amer

ica, practicing it in all countries that

will permit of it, and demanding it in

other countries where it has the power to attemnt it. Pray, what assur

ance, if any, nas America mat ine Roman corporation is not working toward that end in America? America has no such assurance in fact, it has abundance of proof that the Roman ecclesiastical empire is working directly toward the end whicli leads to a union of the Roman Catholic hierarchy of Rome, Italy, with the United States Government.

The pope is well aware that the Klan is the mightiest barrier which stands

in his way; ine one gieai uuBia.cn; in his march to power in America. Is it not only logical that he and his agents would fight the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, composed solely of native-born Protestant Americans, to the very last ditch? ((Article fourteen will appear mext week.)

THE GOVERNMENT' SHOULD

PROTECT AMERICAN CITIZENS IS IN AMERICA," SAYS THE MEDFORD MAIL-TRIBUNE. POSSIBLY THE TRIBUNE HAS HEARD OF NILES, SOUTH BEND, PERTH AMBOY, ETC.

In reading the history of the medieval Roman Catholic churcli, one gathers the idea that the popes usually stretched the truth as far as possible so that it would go as far as possible. Why waste a good thing like truth when error would better serve the carnal lust of lecherous monks?

Protestant America should take to heart the suggestion of Oliver Wendell Holmes: "The great thing in this

world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are Vioving." The easiest thing for some Americans to find is fault, and the hardest iing for them to keep is still. The chief difference between a Klansman and an anti-Klansman is

that the Klansman keeps his mouth shut and his eyes open while the

anti-Klansman keeps his mouth open and his eyes shut.

Some Protestant tongues are still clacking. They insist that one race

With the example of Spain and Mexico and the South American republics before them, one might think they would

One important thing to keep in mind as we go along, which is frequently, perhaps purposely, overlooked, is . that the cost of dry law enforcement, admittedly enormous, is offset, more than balanced in fact, by the fines and forfeitures resulting from the arrests of bootleggers and others who violate the Volstead" act.

(If there were newspapers then) MARK ANTONY A SUICIDE CLEOPATRA SERIOUS. ALEXANDRIA, 30 B. C Mark Antony, a well known warrior and Roman triumvir, today committed suicide by falling on his sword. It ia believed by the police that a false report of the death of his fiancee Cleopatra, was the cause of his act. Attempts to interview members of the Antony household proved futile. A report that another member of the Antony household had committed suicide caused a rumor that Mr. Antony had entered into a suicide pact. This theory is scouted by the police. On receiving news of the suicide, Cleopatra collapsed and attending physicians announce her condition as serious. No one is allowed to see her. Mr. Antony gained much fame a number of years ago by an oration

following the assassination by alleged

traitors, of Julius Caesar, well-known emperor. A report from the coroner' jury is expected late this afternoon.

Many of our Roman Catholic friends are planning a trip to Rome in 1925. It might strengthen their patriotism a bit to detour for a little pilgrimage to Mount Vernon ' or Springfield.
