eral years under the name of the Cardinal Newman Society, an organization of Roman Catholic teachers in the New York public schools, -who are propagating the teachings of the Roman church among their pupils.

(Special to The Fiery Cross) CHICAGO, Nov. 10. The most ambitious effort to enforce the law ever undertaken by an outraged citizenship is proposed by Chicago Klarl3men. It is nothing less than. a thor
ough clean-up of this, the nation's second city, and the criminal capital of the world.
It Is charged that bootlegging in all its forms is flourishing here while Mayor William E. Devcr complacently pats himself on. the back and boasts of his "reform administration." The illicit traffic in intoxicants ranges from the major operations of millionaire brewers to the cheating neighborhood drug store. Gambling is flourishing in all sections of the city. Well-equipped, efficiently-managed places cater to the "big-moneyed" boys while policygames thrive in the "Black Belt" of the South Side. Open iBimornlitT Flnnrlxhes Houses of ni-fame are running wide open, and obviously with official pro
tection, in many sections of the city. In other sections hotels and apart
ment houses- are given over to immorality. As good citizens, members of the Klan have demanded that evidence be secured against the known violators of the laws and that they be apprehended and brought to trial. The apparent inability of police, state and federal officers to clean up Chicago gives the Klan here an opportunity to demonstrate Its effectiveness in "getting the goods" on the Kawless and its willingness to co-operate with and aid the duly-constituted authorities in the performance of their duties. Klan leaders throughout the city are eager to spread their dragnet in the interest of a clean community. Officers of the Klan have made a preliminary survey which reveals the magnitude of the task involved and of the expenditure necessary to secure evidence. It is anticipated that Charles G. Palmer, Grand Dragon of the Realm, will bring the project to the attention of the Imperial Wizard and other high officials at Imperial headquarters.

To Aid Pupils It is the custom in many schools of the country to hold special classes for pupils who have failed to make a mark in some one or more of their studies. Cardinal Newman Societies are functioning in every high school of New York City and in. a great many of the srammar schools. The Romanists have been working lomwr and patiently to secure this foothold upon the public school system of trie metropolitan area. The district is literally honeycombed with its propaganda. Boldness in operation is nowtaking the place of former masquerade. The society is named after Card'nal Newman as a tribute to ' him for betraying the English church and swinging to the Roman hierarchy. Newman was an Episcopal priest. Rome, ever on the alert to gain its
the Roman Catholic hierarchy, Ro
manist propaganda is spread upon their young minds. To any boy or girl there is more of a desire to play 'with their classmates after the regular school hours rather than proceed to a special class to make up deficiencies in the day's lesson, so that when any proposal which may be extended to the youngster that he join in a meeting which is
being held in an adjacent room where

Every Roman Catholic teacher must become a member of this society, regardless of personal preference, as it is the order of the priests. The Roman Catholic school teacher has no choice. The fight has only just begun, and it is up to every Klansman and Klanswoman .to put their shoulder to the wheel and push forward, and in years to come we will have none but Americans on guard. Some around here said the Klan was dead, but after the election they said it was a mighty well-organized bunch of dead ones. This Is going to win hundreds of members to the cause, and let 'em come. We can use them. E. W. G.

NEW YORK PROTESTANT UNIT CHARTERS TRAIN
(Special to The Fiery Cross) SIOUX CITY, la.. Nor. 10. Discrimination against Protestant charitable organization fn favor ol Roman Catholic "societies was reported here in the recent drive for community welfare funds. This discrimination crept into the deliberations of a committee appointed to consider the budgets of the various organizations seeking aid and to recommend the amounts to be raisod in the campaign. It is evident from the amounts requested and thf amounts recommended that there were Individuals on the commit ee whose sympathies were not with the welfare work of Protestant charities. In only one instance is the requested amount of a
Roman Catholic charity curtailed, while in almost every case that of strictly Protestant organizations are cut. , Boy Scouts First Here are some cases: The boy scouts asked Tor $in.C63 for current expenses and to liquidate . outstanding notes. To meet this amount fl'i600 was granted. The Free Dental Clinic asked for $3,200 and received $2,800. The Free .Medical Dispensary requested a budget of $8,740 and was allowed by the committee, $8,500. The Family Welfare Bureau, one of the most important charities in the city asked for $17.SSn to carry on Its
work and was gran led $17,000. Like treatment was accorded the Salvation Army, whose officials requested $14,152.60 and received an allowance of $12,600. Cuts were also made in the requests of the girl scouts and the Visiting Nurses" Association. Thia simply means that these Protestant organisations must curtail their activities in the coming year; that instead of broadening their fields of endeavor, they must confine themselves to an even smaller circle of activity. None Curtailed The only instance in which a Ro
man Catholic charity was curtailed is found in that of the Roman Catholic Women's League, which asked for $8,000 and was granted $7,000. In all other cases of Roman Catholic organizations the requested amounts were granted. The Convent of the Good Shepherd asked for $10,000 and received It; the St.. Anthony's Home sought $5,000 and received it; St. Monica's borne was granted the $7,50o budget It requested and the Federation of J"ewish Social Service was granted its $7., 000 request. Protestant Americans here are very much opposed to the biased action of the community fund drive committee. They declare that if such actions are continued It will mean the failure of the community fund idea In Sioux City.

LOS ANGELES, Cal., Nov. 10.- The first ceremony held by San Pedro Klan No. 1 since the return of the Pacific fleet to the local base was recently staged in a picturesque spot among the Palos Verde hills near Los Angeles harbor. Under three fiery crosses and with an intense wave of light portraying the American flag in the background. 521 recruits, the majority of whom wore the uniform of the United States navy, were naturalized into the Invisible Empire.
The oath was administered in a hollow quadrangle 3 00 yards square and flanked by 2,500 Klansmen and 1.000 members of the Women of the Ku Klux Klan and Junior Klan. The
ceremony was held high on the slopes of the hills where light from 2,000 automobiles parked below and the battleships lying in man-o'-war row were faintly visible. Representatives of all the Klans of southern California were present and a crowd of 6,000 non-members witnessed the event from a distance.
