SPEAKER ADDRESSES OSGOOD AMERICANS State Lecturer Talks on Problem of Safeguarding Morals of the Young (Speelal to The Fiery Cross) OSGOOD, Ind., Nov. 3. The problems of safeguarding the morals of the young people in America and of the propaganda which is flooding this country were dealt with in an interesting lecture by a state speaker at a closed meeting of Klansmen and Klanswomen here last Saturday. Practically the entire county membership was present. The speaker pointed out that foreign women were behind the socalled "Peace Movement," which has been sweeping the country. After the address an Informal reception was held and refreshments Were served. The women raised to be used In buying curtains for the meeting hall. A WISE ACTION Secretary Hughes courteously declined the invitation extended by the assembly of the League of Nations to participate In a disarmament discussion. JProbably that jarred the good gentlemen in Geneva, but this nation need not worry. It may be remembered that the most successful conference on limitations of armaments thus far held was entirely outside the province of the League of Nations.

PENALTIES OF PROTESTANTISM FALL ON TOTS TWO BABIES, ORPHANED BY INTOLERANCE OF ROMANS, SOB Widow of Thomas Abbot Dies After Her Husband Is Shot by Allen Hand Children Want "Mama" (By a Staff Correspondent) PITTSBURGH, Pa., Nov. 3. Two children are wondering why their mama has "gone away," as the body of Mrs. Bessie Abbott lies stilled in death, her broken heart having registered its last beat. The technical cause of her death as s.iown on the physician's certificate is merely a matter of form, for all those deaf friends who knew her m this life are fully aware that this young woman grieved until no longer could her heavy-ladened heart carry on. Those who have been near the sweet-faced mother of the now or.T.nrV0ts Rre war? that the hand which fired the pistol that robbed her of her husband, Thomas Rankin Abbott as he marched along the streets of Carnegie, carrying nn American flag. Victim of Intolerance Today the penalty of American Protestantism is shifted to the tinv shoulders of the Abbott babes-who will continue to pay as they go through life without the loving care of a mother or the guiding hand of a father. Intolerance has decreed that tnese babes shall never know the true happiness of a home. Their rather was a Christian American and tor that reason was shot down in cold blood as lne marched in a Klan parade on August 25, 1923. Since that lime Mrs. Abbott took up the burden wmx .?y rearIn the two babes without the protection of the husband To"pr fr Wh. had fallen a martyr to Protestant Americanism. stilled in death by a bullet of hate more deadly than those which he faced while in the service of his country. Immediately following the coldblooded murder Patrick McDormott, Roman Catholic and Knight of Columbus, was arrested and charged with the murder. Three other Roman Catholics, W. K. Flaherty, Joseph Joyce and George Kimmell, were also held by the authorities. To date nothing definite has been done. So far as can be learned, McDermott's trial Is to begin soon. Babes Don't Understand Complete arrangements for the burial of Mrs. Abbott are being made by grieving relatives and friends,- while the Abbott babes are wondering why their mama does not respond to their appealing cries. In her deep grief immediately following the slaying of her husband, Mrs. Abbott declared he had died a martyr to the cause of Americanism and Protestantism. Her own words can now be given as the cause of the death of this brave woman whose flight from this sphere leaves orphaned two American babes, the victims of Intolerance. SPEAKS FROSI AITO CHATHAM, 111. The Ku Klux Klan made its first appearance In New Berlin when the Rev. Mr. Holmes, of Murrayvllle, delivered a lecture on the principles of that organization. MINISTER COMPARES HIMSELF TO PRIEST Protestants Teach How to Think, He Says, While Romans Tell What to Think
EAST RADFORD. V:i . Nov. 3. Uniformed Klansmen recently presented two flags to the Methodist Episcopal church here. The Rev. J. M. Gambill, pastor, then preached a strong sermon on Protestantism. Rev. Gambill first exploded the argument of the Roman i-hurch that the line of popes descended from Peter, pointing out that Peter was never In Rome. He then declared that the whole world looked to the United States and to England for leadership, because they were making greater progress along the lines of better, more staple, peaceable and liberal government under Protestant leadership than any other country ever had under the rule of Rome. He affirmed that whereas he was In his pulpit to teach his congregation how to think, the Roman priest stood in his to tell his subjects what to think, and in that lay the great difference In the political development of this country, as well as in Its spiritual growth. He pointed out the great alms and principles of Methodism, and showed how they were paralleled by the alms and principles of Klankraft as he understood It.

ROMAN AGENT GETS COIN IN VETS' BUREAU GOVERNMENT EMPLOYE PEDDLES FOOTBALL TICKETS Same Right Denied Disabled Sol. dlers Notre Dame Favored on Day Meet Is Called On (By a Staff Correspondent) WASHINGTON, Nov. 3. The sals of tickets in the Veterans' Bureau here for the recent Notre DamePrinceton football game was the cause of much surprise by those who saw notices in local newspapers that the tickets could be obtained of James Hays. This surprise is occasioned by the fact that disabled veterans were refused the right to sell tickets for their ball in the bureau. They were also denied the privilege of selling forget-me-nots in the Veterans' Bureau on "Forget-me-not Day." James Hays. Roman Cathol-c and irraduato of Notre Dame, is legal advisor to W. J. Dalton, Roman Catholic bureau manager of this district. Much indignation has been manifest at the discrimination shown in favor ot a Roman Catholic institution and against handicapped veterans of i .- .vr.Hd war. Emptiness of Words The matter has accentuated the em,, linens ofthe words of Archbishop Curley, Roman Catholic dignitary, who chose Columbus Day to declare, efore an Italian Club In Baltimore, Md., that Roman Catholics were being discriminated against In the Veterans' Bureau. It was noted that the tickets on sale at the bureau for the football game were "reserved seats in the Notre Dame section" and that any information desired concerning a special car to be run to Princeton for the game could be secured "by calling Mr. Hayes." Same Old Trouble To the minds of many this act Is but the following in the same trend as obtained at the beginning of the war when the Masons were denied the right to place "huts" at cantonments while the right was given the Knights of Columbus. It was pointed out here today that while the Notre Dame squad waa playing at Princeton, N. J., dispatches carried the news that Protestants had called off a meeting In South Bend, Ind., the home of the Notre Dame University, because an organized movement by Roman Catholics had been made to prevent the meeting at South Bend. KNOCKERS A lot of men who habitually knock their preacher get their practice for that job by knocking the Klan.
