Indiana at the Klonvocation
The hearts of Indiana Klansmen would have been fjuickefied aft fcride in being members of this great state organization would have been Bhown could they have been present at the Imperial Klonvocation of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, in the great convention hall at Kansas City September 23. when an Indiana Klansman made a report ob the growth, Btability and loyalty of the Indiana membership. The Klansman delegated for this work is known throughout the Realm tf Indiana as a man who does things. He is an orator of quite some ability, has been trusted by the voters of Indiana to a high position in state affairs. He has proved worthy of this trust and won his spurs as one of the most capable and loyal Klansmen. When he announced to that great assembly of Klansmen in Kansas City that Indiana Klansmen were absolutely loyal to the officers who have made the great movement the finest progressive Protestant ' organization America has ever known, that assemblage of njen from every part of the nation knew he was telling the truth, and the ovation accorded him, "d by Indiana delegates to the Klonvocation, was not exceeded in the honoring of any speaker (luring the four-day meeting. At the close of his report he presented the following resolution, which was received, approved and placed on file:

(Continued from Pag 1) break of lawlessness against mem bers of the Ku Klux Klan, which resulted in the murder charge against Sheriff. Galligan. 5 It appears that the Shelton brothers, released murderers of Caesar Cagle, a Klansman constable, accompanied Sheriff Galligan and a number of his thugs to John H. Smith's garage, where they demanded the automobile in which Jack Skelcher was killed. They ordered garage attendants to pump up the tires, and when the boys halted in their work, the sheriff and his accomplices showed guns to the lads' ribs. The paper's report continues: "About this time, Harry Herrin, president of- the Herrin board of health, accompanied by Fred Wade,
started by the garage going to dinner. Galllgan's deputies stopped their car, dragged them from the tonneau, knocked them down and began to stomp them. ; "The alderman, Charles Penham, accompanied by Green Punning, Charles Wollard and Pewey Newbold, at this moment drove past the garage going to dinner. Their car was
also halted, and Charles Penham was hit in the side of the head with a gun and knocked unconscious. This wa3 what saved his life. Klansmen Return Fire "Someone was heard to say, 'Get old Texas (this was Green Panning) and kill him.' "Two deputies caught him and another held a gun to him and killed
him instantly. "Then the fray started. Charles Wollard and Pewey Newbold, not knowing what to expect, seeing what their companions received, opened tire, and when the smoke cleared away there were six dead and four or five ywotinded. These two Klansmen, attacked unexpectedly and without provocation .though they were, are said to have accounted for three gangsters and wounded some four

CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS DESTROYED BY FOES 77 Burned Last Year Figures for 1924 to Reach Startling High Total
LOS ANGELES, Cal., Oct. 6. There wecfi seventy-seven -school fires in California in 1923. Figures are not available on the number so far this year, but it is already appallingly large, and In every case the Insurance carried on the building destroyed has
been so inadequate as to delay and cripple the rebuilding. As a consequence it is impossible to care for the increasing numbers of pupils In the public schools. The insurance companies' losses ex
perienced on schools the c6untry over are by no means favorable, but here in California there has been a prolonged epidemic of fires known to be incendiary. Most of them take place where the Roman Catholic element is very much In evidence, and where they are continually fighting for parochial schools.

IOXIA. Mich.. Oct. 6. The Klan has increased its membership to such an extent that larger quarters are being looked for by the local heads. There was plenty of room while the big meetings were held out of doors, but now that winter is coming on, the problem of seating all the Klansmen in one hall Is bothering the Americans.

PROMOTES HORSE RACE FOR CATHOLIC CHURCH
CHICAGO, III., Oct. C When It comes to wnjs and means of raising money from the faithful, the K-.nian Catholic church is particularly fertile with Ideas. nut It took the pnator of St. Margaret MnryV Church of this city to think of horse racing as a means of obtaining funilN. Priest (.oiprite T. McCarthy thought It ui all by lilmxelf, according to reports in a Chicago paper. He termed the day "St. Margaret Miiry Derby Ij.-ly. nt only was rncliiK on the program, hut there were nlxo many other iramlilinK devices, all designed to bring in a great stream of silver and gold into the coffers of the church f.ir the erection of a mission church and school in th' city.
(Special to The Fiery Cross) PIQUA, 0., Oct. 6. The Piqua Baptist Church is an outstanding figure in the evolution that has taken place among churches in many cities throughout the nation since the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan movement began. The Piqua Baptist Church is wideawake, active and prosperous and
Is doing a wonderful lot of good iff
the community.
j-iess man two years ago it was not so prominently known. The awakening came with the activity of the Klan in the community. It is reported that many of the leading and-active members of the congregation are affiliated with the Klan movement. This is neither confirmed nor denied by any member of the church. Neither is it confirmed nor denied by the minister in charge. Rev. Franklin Fenner. However, less than two years ago the Rev. Mr. Fenner attacked from his pulpit the Klan movement. But men who progress read and Investigate. Thai, is just wrlat the Rev. Mr. Fenner did.
where before he had taken the word of enemies and the secular press for his information, his investigation proved to him beyond doubt that the Klan movement was the most forward in the history of Protestant movements In America. Attitude Changes! The attitude of the Piqua Baptist Church, so far as its minister was
concerned, changed immediately. He became an active, progressive, worker in the cause of Protestantism as indicated and advocated by the ' ideals and principles of the Klan. One of the first changes noted publicly was the erection of a cross, e'ectr'cally lighted, on the roof of the church. This cross is burning nightly and an electric sign, with the word ""Welcome," beams forth each evening when services are held in the church. There are few evenings in the week that some program is not beint given. Beginning September 21 the min
ister outlined a series et subjects covering fivs Sundays. gepimtjer 21 his subject was "Evolution, o? Shall We Tear Out th Book et Genesis From the Bible." September ZS he epoke on "The Virgin Birth of Christ," The subject October 5 was "The Second Coming of Christ." October 12 he will talk on "The Jew, His Place in Modern History; Where Is He Going? What Will He Do With America and W-ftat Will America- Do With Him?"
t To Speak on Klan Sunday evening, October IS, his subject will be "The Ku Klux Klan." As a footnote of the printed announcement of the subjects, the Rev. Mr. Fenner said: "We'll try to save a good seat for you," but unless those who wished to hear the discourses arrived long before 7:30, the time for the services to begin, they stood. Thus is shown the evolution of one of the many Protestant churches of the nation which have awakened
rapidly to the cause of true Americanism.

The World's Scirap Heap Chiropractic Health Talk No. 5S By J. D. GOLDSBERRY. D. C. A city dump, or a junk yard is a tragedy of sorts. Useful articles, the painstaking product of proud artisans, worn out in service or before their time, and discarded to rust and decay. How much more tragic is the human scrap heap? All about us are people unable to keep the pace of modern life: tossed aside to rust. And the pity of it is that the greatest fault of these losers in the game of life was but a lack of health. Had they but known of Chiropractic, they might have won !
