Too Much Billy -Dallying Secretary of Labor Davia. in a recent speech, declared that aliens are now being "bootlegged" into America in vast numbers. This condition ha more or less been true for many years, especially in the case of the Chinese. With tne passing of more stringent immigration laws from time to time, this evil is taking on gigantic proportions. Immediate steps should be taken by the United States government to deal most drastically with this situation. Something must be done in the not distant future if not at once, to stop the growing disregard for the laws of the United States. To continue as we are at the present time, America will beecome a joke in the eyes of the whole world. Law violators of the worst kind continue in their nefarious work and now the alien is showing his utter disregard for the acts of the United States Congress by unlawfully making his way into this country. If the alien who entered this country lawfully was a menace, how much

It is very possible that the ignorant foreigner does not know that he is breaking the law when he enters this country except in the prescribed way a way possibly that ho knows nothing about. Among those aliens being unlawfully brought into this country by organized gangs, are idiots, narcotic venders, criminals, diseased, bondslaves from China, and, in fact, the veriest scum of the dregs of humanity It is estimated that more than 100,000 were smuggled into this country last year. Imagine just what these degenerates are doing at this very moment breaking the law on every hand; selling narcotics, peddling poison liquor pandering and committing every law violation. It remains to be seen if America, the best, richest and most powerful nation in this world, is to have her laws made a hollow mockery by ignorant and criminal aliens, bootleggers, murderers and other law violators already within her borders. Consistency The Catholic Transcript, a Hartford, Connecticut, in an
vhich it touches on "Protestant bigotry," declares that "in the long run the Ku Klux Klan will be recognized as the spawning of Protestant bigotry." - According to the Transcript, the Klan "can upset the whole state of New Jersey and of Long Island but no Protestant cares to lift his voice In protest." Going -further, the Transcript says of the Protestants, that "eventually they and their expiring religion will be the chief sufferers." That the Protestant religion is expiring will btmews indeed to the millions of Protestants throughout the United States and the world Nevertheless, the utterance of the editor of the Transcript discloses that which is in, not only his own heart, but in the hearts of all of his kind, namely, that he is disturbed because the Ku Klux Klan has awakened Protestantism In America from the slumber into which it had fallen. Since the advent of the Ku Klux Klan the attendance in Protestant Churches has shown an increase over and above the proportionate and steady gain of former years. This fact alone would inspire hatred of the Klan by those who also hate Protestantism. Inconsistency marks the editorials of Roman Catholic publications in their fight upon the Klan, and the Transcript is no exception. Can any Banc person believe that if the cdor of the Transcript believed for one moment that Protestantism would be "the chief sufferer" through the Ku Klux Klan, that the Transcript -would be fighting the Klan? Does any person believe that if the Roman Catholic hierarchy was laboring under tho impression that the Klan was hurting the Protestant church that this same heirarchy would be so determinedly fighting the Klan organization? m u rr- ,

You can't estimate a Klansman's kindness by the figures in his bank book or his song in a paid church choir. Every sin against race and country makes its own hell that is one reason why so many people believe in a place of punishment. It is the evil in heart who are always willing to see evil in militant Protestantism. The Klansman who mind3 his own affairs My friend, this screed is true Is the gentleman who always has Quite a lot of work to uo. And this applies with equal force To the non-KIan ilk. We laugh At these birds who have jobs right at home To pay time and time and a half! . The Klansman who controls himself when under fire fights a battle the angels are interested In. If I Could Find If I could find a social club That meant as much to me As the Ku Klux Klan, I'd be the man To join it instantly. I'd know tlt it was built to last, I'd know its ways were right. And I would use my leisure time lo boost it day and night. If I could find a school that taught As much of life and right As the Ku Klux Klan, I'd be the man ifl-go there day and night. I'd know it taught our nation's hope; I'd know it stood for truth, I'd know it sought to hold the land For our own country's youth. If I could find a Do-ers lodge That did as much for men As the Ku Klux Klan, I'd be the man To take the oath again. I'd know it stood for laws obeyed, And I'd obey its voice; I'd feel it was the best of all 'Twould be my final choice. A Klansman with a warm heart will not long have a cold lodge. And what, may we inquire, is the constitution to the hired scurrilous writers of purchased newspapers? Blackmail According to the headlines, a young merchant of 83 paid blackmailers $362,000 for his indulgence in a "petting party." Education and surgery will finally correct people's minds and the shape of their heads. "Hate goes not out by hatred" that advice was given to the Aryans many thousands of years ago. Man must find his own solu tions to social problems. Organizations like the Ku Klux Klan help him to do this. In order to show us the light of the stars, God had to give us night. In order to show us the light of the fiery cross, Providence had to give us the opposition of strong and bitter men. A Klansman who tries to live up to the teachings of his order never goes to church praying that he will hear preaching that will hit somebody else he is willing to take his own spiritual medicine and profit by it. - We hear a good deal about tax reduction, but it's all talk. Things demanded by modern standards of living call for high taxes. To return to national simplicity in laws and customs is the only thing that will even measurably reduce taxes. The Same Old Circle The world drift is in the same old circle civilization rises, and shortly after it reaches its zenith, it plunges toward its nadir. The race is like a tide sweeping to and fro from low level to high level and so on through eternity. The Aryan race alone has been able to survive the upheavals of divine destiny thus far The power to endure the ceaseless erosion of time and change has made its white branch the race supreme. Shall the white race hold through the next plunge of civilization? Will the rising color line and the swing downward through war, pestilence and psychic disintegration submerge it as the black, pitiless waters submerged Atlantis? The Klan knows the right answer to this question It is the duty of Protestsftit Christen dom to hear the voice crying in the wilderness. . More Ugly Words tiootieg, nribery ana conspiracy are ugly words, but they must be faced and erased from the dictionary of American life. If tire servants of the government haoN. heeded Klan warnings If those who were proven culpable had been taken care of promptly such trouble as the Remus scandals,' true in evidence or exaggerated to meet desperate needs and others equally amazing might not have come to pass. Tt Looks Odd . The . other day a Chicago woman, cladv only in a pink nightgown, was nabbed by police while in the joyous act of chasing her husband around a tree on a busy street. Questioning developed the fact that her husband was leaving her and she refused to "let him get away withyftnything like that." Willingness of American citl-
zens to chase the devil around the stump regardless of appearances, has led foreign nations to misinterpret the meaning of American government in its relation to its own people and the people of other countries. Sometimes we do look odd to other people. But the main rank and file of us are in earnest in spite of the cut of our clothes. Uncle Sam Craves Action Uncle Sam himself is not the sort of man to care much for petting parties or pink naiamas. He craves
action. Hence his definite -word to the Japs, now quivering (reporters ay) with chagrin." In Doint of fact no slight was intended. "We stand on our own, for our own" is a good Klannish slogan. It describes our national feeling toward the Japanese who are certainly dandy little Chinese exclusionists themselves. Seek selfish pleasures alone at the expense of the community you live in and you will fail; seek Klan service and precept and you will find the deeper satisfaction that comes from manly responsibility and racial superiority. If you want to get into a crooked path, just follow the direction of the bootlegger's corkscrew. When the so-called InteUectualist opens his month against the Klan, everyone with good eyes can see clear through his head. When the Klansman puts on his robe we may be sure that the result of his action will be for the common good; but when the wolfish enemy puts on sheep's clothing the net result will be mutton for the devil's household. We sometimes think as we loolr over the people who attack or seek to divide our organization that Envy is a doj that bites before barking. . More Tolerance, Please! Vv'hen some awe-inspiring public official of the two-for-a-nickel variety tells you to lower the Klan emblem from your lodge premises, ask him respectfully why the Knights of Columbus are permitted to display their emblem on their lodge halls throughout the country.- Ask him calmly and dispassionately why Roman churches are permitted to display their crosses and other signs upon their property. Ask him meekly and without any sort of violence why an American citizen may not have equality of treatment in this land oi tne iree ana nome t' the brave. Don.'!. fiissKil-tlie mSi. Appeal to his better nature undoubtedly he has one. though it may not always be at home to visitors. Stand on your rights and righteousness. A Tumble Due A servitor, not long ago. fell from the top of a stool while engaged in the pleasant occupation of dusting the Liberty Bell. Many have come to grief trying to dust from liberty what they conceive to be cobwebs. A few people are now trying to clean the Klan's ideas of liberty, but their situation is precarious and they are ripe for a tumble. Unmodified Justice The Klan does not understand the policy that recommends one law for the governor and another for the governed. Low or high, rich or Door. the courts and all the armament of justice, as exemplifying the will of the people, exist but for the cause of impartial and unmodified justice. Possibly It Is W. G. Ross, a real estate dealer in Los Angeles, killed himself re cently to "see if dead men return." He has no doubt discovered that If they do nobody finds it out He was like the man who wanted to die and go to heaven just to see whether there were any Klansmen up there. When he accomplished his desire he found there were plenty of Klansmen in Paradise, so he wanted to come back to earth, but St. Peter held the key and the door was locked. If the fellow hadn't been obedient to St. Peter all his life, he would have taken the key away from the old gentleman and made his escape; but he had become so used to reverencing the saints during his earth life that he lost his nerve when it came to dealing with them In a businesslike way after death, and he had to live happily ever after in heaven with the Klansmen. Moral Don't do it because maybe it's worse than you think. Sad Stories There are sad stories coming out of Hungary about the treatment of the Jews in that semi-civilized country. Evidently there are people In the world who treat the Jews worse than does the Klan, y& the Hebrews turn the guns of their fort against the Klan organization instead of spending the ammunition where it will do them some good. Klansmen may not consider the Semite an ideal citizen, but they certainly have no desire to boil him in oil. HARVARD DEGREES ARE MOST IN ITS HISTORY CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 20. In America the drop probably took place when Congress passed the income tax law. C. W. S.

If the reader of this article happens to be a Protestant and a native-born American, he is about to be surprised to learn, according to a citizen of Westport, Indiana, that he (the reader) is not a Protestant American. The reason i3 very simple according to the Westport resident. There is no such thing as a Protestant American, says the sage of Westport, This same oracle does admit, however, that there are American Protestants. This citizen his name is Jiot known because he sent an anonymous communication, in which he "condemned" the Klan for keeping the membership secret while saying he i3 not a Klansman declares he stands for Klan principles. He didn't say so in as many words, but he did say that he "stood for religious freedom." AlS this is one of the strong points in the Klan, the anonymous writer who derided Klansmen for keeping their identity hidden unwittingly subscribed to a Klan principle. An Outstanding Truism "If a man is a one hundred per cent American, says the anonymous writer, who took occasion to note that Klansmen kept their identity a secret, "he is so regardless of his church affiliations." Nothing could be more correct than that statement. A school child of ten knows that when anything is, it is. If a man is one hundred per cent American, it is only natural that he is one hundred per cent American. The only inference which can be drawn from what the anonymous writer says is that Klansmen are so foolish as to contend that black is not black and red is not red. The writer states that "the United States was founded to insure reli The Shipping Board Here is another fact which is bound to interest the observing Klansman-the United States Shipping Board refuses to take its own advice. For some time the board has urged all Americans to patronize American ships. It has pled, almost with tears in its official eyes, that American business men insist that all shipments to or from them be made on American ships. It has prepared instructions as to how Americans can make sure that their goods go over American lines. But, although the shipping board has a big fleet of its own plying the seven seas and all the contiguous oceans on the map, it gives its freight business to British ships. When the Leviathan was outfitted the job went to British firms, though all of the goods could have been bought in America; when the material for this outfitting came to AmeriCait "was" consigned in nine separate British ships for its trip to the United States Shipping Board. The freight bill amounted to thousands of dollars and all of this jingling jack went into the British purse. Not a single American vessel got a chance at the freight money. The Klan will continue, in its usual quiet and confident manner, to fight for the American business man and to point out official acts that are not favorable to Americans until the abuses are stopped It is one of the Klan's best ideas to work all the time for American interests. Let the sharp profiteers and soft pul piteers steal or sleep and whisper on. One organization in existence, at least, will battle un-Americanism to the final flap of the goosequill. The Klan is for Americans all the time. Parliament may crack labor's bean; Alphonso may danoe to the harp; but loyal Klansmen will spend their time working to help Americans in every branch of human en deavor. This may sound like a ser mon and a boast, but it is some thing more vital than either. The devil never wants to break up a lodge he merely wants to run it A KLANSMAN'S CREED believe in God and in the teneti of the Christian religion and that a ' godleu nation can not long prosper. I believe that a church that is not grounded on the principles of morality and justice is a mockery to Cod and to man. I believe that a church that does not have the welfare of the common people at heart is unworthy. I believe in the eternal separation of Church and State. I hold no allegiance to any foreign government, emperor, king, pope or any other foreign, political or religious power. I hold my allegiance to the Stare and Stripes next to my allegiance to God alone. I believe in just laws and liberty. I believe in the upholding of tat Constitution of thest United States. I believe that our Free Public School is the corner stone of good government and that those who are seeking to destroy it are enemies of our Republic and are unworthy of citizenship. I believe in freedom of speech. I believe in free press uncontrolled by political parties or by re ligious sects. I believe in law and orderT I believe in the protection of our pure womanhood. I do not believe in mob violence, but I do believe that laws should be enacted to prevent the causes of mob violence. I believe in u closer relationship of capital and labor. I believe in the prevention of unwarranted strikes by foreign labor agitators. believe in the limitation of for' eign immigration. gious freedom for all." If that be the case, and it truly is, why can not Protestants have an organization to wnlch none but Protestants belong? The Roman Catholics have, and tho Mormons have, and even infidels have their own organizations. Therefore, when we are living in a land which tolerates all religions (if it does, although members of one of the most flourishing churches in America have been arrested for practicing their religion and members of that church can not, under the law, be married in their own church) why should the Protestant be singled out as that one church which can not have an organization of iu own? The writer of the anonymous letter took especial pains to point out that Klansmen kept their identity secret. Is that a moral offense? If so, why did the writer keep his identity a secret? If refraining from telling the public that he is a member of a certain organization is such a huge offense by a Klansman, what is one to think of another who refuses to sign a letter and keeps his identity hidden behind an anonymous signature? The First Stone The Westport citizen is just like a great many others who grasp at anything, regardless of how ridiculous, in an effort to belittle the Klan organization. If a Klansman were brought before a throng of men to be stoned for keeping his identity hidden, and in that throng was tha Westport citizen, could he "cast tha first stone?" He could not. In speaking of stones, however, it might be remarked, with somo truth, that the Westport anonymous letter writer is just "throwing mora rocks at the moon." Powerful influences are at work lu i" veni tne education bill from passage. There is a strong governmental sentiment fnr q j - . vuuiumti u: partment of education and health or education and welfare. Some government economists think there are many unrelated welfare and health movements in the government, and that economy would be served by combining, for instance, m one department, the present bureau of education, the pension office, fet. A Most Important Factor Just What relation thn. u. vucic ia Uttween education otih n,i,irn.. does not exist between education and, warfare, or education and forestry, or education and agriculture, or eduLauul1 ana "gntnouses, does not appear. At Soft Soap Value In a Catholic paper called "The Guardian," published at Little Rock, Ark., Freemasons are praised because they "give no countenance to the coercion of education." It is gratifying to note that a Catholic can say of members of a great Protestant order, "Such men-do not sow the seeds of hate and dissension " But the question remains "Do the Catholics sincerely mean what they say?" A good many hundred years ago, a member of a Protestant order took a chance on a pleasant compliment and wound up his earthly affairs in such a way as to make DeMolay organizations in modern America possible. Nobody would b9 better pleased than Protestant fraternalists if the Catholics everywhere today would come out man to man and with a sincere expression bf sorrow for past wrong-doing Ind would agree to co-operate with Protestant Christianity for the upbuilding of nation and world. But will they do it? You know they will not. They have not assimilated or mingled with Protestants up to this time, and they will never do bo. Their plaintive compliments may ba accepted by other organizations, but they will be taken at soft soap ?alua by the Klan.
