to celebrate the delivery of-three little girls from the convent recently by the Campbell County Klan. Many persons declare that this cross was the most beautiful one ever burned in Kentucky. It was seen from both Covington and Cincinnati. Covington and Newport Klansmen have provided much evidence to the authorities in an attempt to clean up the vice districts.
ST. LOUIS, Mo., April 12. "America must get away from leaders like
Hiram Johnson, Henry Cabot Lodge and James A. Reed," said Major George II. Putnam of New York, 80-year-old civil war veteran and head of a- publishing house bearing his name, in an address here. "They are keeping this nation hiding its head in the sand, blind to its duties and needs," he added. "The first thing to do," he contin-

NEW YORK, April 12. As a result of experiments conducted by the General Motors Research Corporation, builders of automobile engines
will be able to construct motors capable of withstanding very high compression, and the car owner can
cet double the present amount of
mileage out of gasoline, the Amer-I ican Chemical Society has announced. Described as a "development that
has resulted m very practical results as to cost and comfort for the motor-driving public," the announcement said the discovery would be fully described in a paper to be presented at the spring meeting of the society in Washington, April 21 to 26.
The General Motors chemists also discovered a way to dispose of the "motor knock an engine experiences when it is laboring uphill," it was stated. Advances in the cracking method of producing gasoline from petroleum will be reported at the Washington
meeting. A paper dealing witn tne
dangers of carbon monoxide asphyxiation under certain conditions in garages will lie read by William Yent of the United States Bureau of Mines.
NEW YORK, April 10. Dr. Hiram Wesley Evans, Imperial Wizard of
the Ku Klux Klan, ha3 had some trying ordeals in his time and has faced danger without flinching, but recently in New York he underwent
what he regards his most trying situation. In his glory, addressing Klan crowds throughout the nation, taking
his time in his familiar way, pacing up and down the platform, talking to the four winds, and to the multitudes, he was for once in his life required to stand on space two feet square and deliver a speech in two minutes and fifty-nine seconds to make a phonograph record, "Amer
ica s Task, at which time the Imperial Wizard addressed what will
probably be his largest "invisible" audience. America's Task, a new record with
a musical number, "America, Our
Noble Land," on the reverse side, is Dr. Evans' first effort in 'making records and those who saw him shortly after the record was made, damp with perspiration, really understand the trying ordeal that he went through in order that his talk on Americanism and immigration, for which this record was made, may be placed in the homes of every Klansman in America. The new record, which is enjoying a wonderful sale, can be obtained bv
addressing postoffice Box 871, Indianapolis, and enclosing $1. It is distributed by the American Music Company, distributors of Klan records, who are rendering a real service to Klansmen in this connection. Klansmen throughout the nation who desire the agency for dis
tribution of the record in their community should address Box 871, Indianapolis.
KLAX FUNERAL IT FOWLER FOWLER, Ind., April 12. One of the largest funerals ever held here took place last Sunday afternoon when the remains of Harlan. Copen-
haver were taken to the local cemetery. One hundred Klansmen in full regalia conducted the ceremonies and marched behind the hearse from the Methodist church to the graveyard where Klan services were held over the departed.
Fiery Cross Is Burned on St. Louis School Grounds : ST. LOUIS, April 12 Members of the Kirkwood school board said they believed the burning of a six-foot fiery cross on the high school grounds there last Saturday night during a motion picture performance in the auditorium was done by Klansmen to celebrate the successful campaign to increase the school tax rate from $1 to $1.60 per $100. Klansmen took an active part,jn the election, one of the results of which was the defeat of William Daly, a Catholic, for a position on
the school board. The fiery cross was erected quietly, and apparently without ceremony.

KAFKAUNA, Wis. There has been much question in the minds of j the public as to whether the Ku ; Klux Klan had an organization in j this city. At the spring election there was a new and peculiar power I felt which, led many to conclude' there was a Klan in operation in j Kaukanna. During and following' election there was much blustering talk and some threats made in reference to the Klan or anyone who might be associated with it or who ; might support ir"in sentiment. Monday evening there was no doubt left j in the minds of anyone, for two large crosses were burned in different parts of the city. Since this demonstration of strength and determination election rough talk has i ceased.
