THREE RIVERS, N. M., Feb. 9. The ranch, home, and irrigation plant of Albert B. Fall, former secretary of the interior and former United States senator from New

Mexico, are the principal and only objects of interest here. . Still, no photographs are allowed to be taken of or on Senator Fall's property nor were they before the Teapot Dome oil lease scandal. Nowhere are to be found post card views of the property Of the biggest citizen of Three Falls, N. U. The tree lined boulevard to Fall's home begins a hundred yards from the railroad depot and is marked "Private Road." The Fall residence is a big frame structure with a long glassed-in porch annex. Lights from the home can be seen for ten or twelve miles along the Carrizozo road past Three Rivers. The former

secretary can look from his front door and see the Sacramento mountains, eight or nine miles away, which are snow topped nine months of the year. Swimming Pool Near Home Two reservoirs are near the ranch home. One is a swimming pool, equipped with diving platform and spriijg board. Water runs from this pool into a pasture border ine the

private boulevard where there are

numerous blooded horses and Shet

land ponies. From the other depressed tank a pipe line (water)

extends north to watering troughs in

an almost limitless pasture where cattle graze.

Along the fertile valley, through

which three tree-lined rivers flow, are extended Fall's two-story green barn and stable, which is about twice as

large as the average ranch house in the valley. Six or seven bisr farm

houses and shacks for Mexican ten

ants are near. A scattering of Mescalero Indians live in tents on the

ranch. All of Three Rivers, excepting a few railroad shacks, belongs to Fall. Fall Owns the Postoffice He owns the trading station and the postoffice,. The postmaster store manager boasts that he works for "Senator" Fall, and when motorists stop for gasoline the postmaster tells. them, "We have none but the best because it's Sinclair," and he leads the way to the gas pumps.

Construction work being done by

the E. P. & S. W. railroad is of great benefit to Fall's property. An old

river bed south of the Fall boulevard,

and southeast of the Fall trading sta

tion, bends around and goes under the railroad track a quarter mile

from the depot, in the event or a

cloudburst Fall's home, store, and

postoffice would be threatened. A

work train is guarding against that. Dam Prevents Flood A rock dam made of heavy bowlders swings along back of the store in a protecting semicircle. Railroad poles are used to make a big breakwater near the dam. The dam is twelve feet wide and six feet high and winds for one-third of a mile. It turns the water under the bridge, where it should go, and protects Fall's land-. The Harris ranch, mentioned in hearings by the Senate committee, was offered bankers and land experts for $8 an acre. The offer was refused for the- reason that it was too high. The water supply made it worth more to Fall than to any one else, and that is said to be why he paid $110,000 for it.

The value of '"Fall's land is hard

to estimate. Thfe irrigated land is worth $150 an acre. Still, Fall has many sections leased for 3 cents an

acre a year, but this is reported to

be state land.

Funeral for Mrs. Brandon Is Largest Ever Held at Lancaster

LANCASTER, O., Feb. 9. The largest funeral ever held at the English Lutheran church in this city was witnessed last week when the last rites were performed over the remains of Mrs. Dan Brandon, a highlyrespected matron and Klanswoman of this community. The church was packed, and there was scarcely standing room for all the people who turned out to show their respects to the deceased. The Women of the Ku Klux Klan had charge of the ceremonies, both at the church and at the grave. Mrs. Brandon was buried in a Klan robe. Six Klanswomen acted as pallbear

ers.

The service was conducted by the

Rev. Clayton Robertson.

IRONTON, O., Feb. 9. Athough the pubic school buildings and other public school facilities of this city are -amply able to take care of all the children of school age here, both elementary and high, yet announcement has been made that the erection of a large parochial school building by the local St. Joseph's Church congregation is assured. The estimated cost ot the building is $115,000, and it is proposed to place

a new parochial school building in South Sixth street, between Quincy and Chestnut streets. Just what the purpose is for building additional ' parochial schools in this city is not easily understood, particularly when the city school

system is fully able to take care of the schooling situation here, and

could easily absorb the pupils now

enrolled in the visting parochial

schools. ew High School Completed

The new Ironton high school has

recently been completed at a cost of

$800,OOG. It is a- magnificent struc

ture of three stories, with 42 rooms. Departmental rooms are provided for home economics, manual training,

business, mechanics, an auditorium,

a swimming pool and a gymnasium

The Ironton schools are organized on the so-called six-and-six plan, so that the building will be used by the pupils above the sixth grade. All children, therefore, who attend the

public schools, and who are normally classified, in their studies, will be

above 12 years old when they go to

this building, which will be devoted

exclusively to high school work.

There are two parochial schools

here with an enrollment of about! 460 pupils. As the public school facilities are well able to take care of all these children, there is no need, so many citizens say, why these private schools should exist. The enrollment of the public school Is 2,200 in the grades, and, 975 in the high school. Program Un-American In America, It is pointed out here, the policy is. to send all children of school. age to the public cshools that they shall all receive a common training in citizenship, and obtain, by precept and example, a common patriotism. The tendency of the times Is to abolish all private schools by law, to assure the trne American instruction to which all children born and reared in America are entitled.
