C. C. URBAN CONTRACTOR AND BIILDEH Belmont 13S0 450 Berwick Ave,
ROCHESTER, Vt., Nov. 7. Rev. E. E. Robbins. pastor of the First Congregational Church hero, delivered a stirring sermon last "Sunday, declaring that the Klan stood for Protestant American principles, and which found a ready response among his congregation. "There is no more law-abiding organization in the country than the
Klan." Dr. Robbins sard. "No accusation made against them has been substantiated or proven to be true. The enemies of the Klan fill the air with all the dust and smoke they can, and then when their efforts fail, and when they fail to convict,
or prove their charges true, tney suddenly drop the matter. They do not print the outcome of their charges, and the fact that the Klan is innocent is not published. Furthermore, the papers will not print the other side of the matter. Why? Those
who understand the nature of the fight know why. Klan Makes More Church Members "The Klan stands for pure Americanism; it stands for the sacredness and the purity of the home; it stands for the maintenance of our public schools and the Bible in the same;
j it stands for the Protestant church
and the Frotestant religion, is tnere any organization that can stand for higher or better things? They often fill a church -where before there was but "a handful in attendance. Many of the Best Belong "Furthermore, many of the very best men in almost every community are members of tha Klan, and do you
i suppose that they would join an or1 ganization that was one-tenth as bad
as its enemies try to make it appear? ! Or, having joined with a mistaken ! idea as to what it was, do you sup
pose that they would maintain their connection with it, to say nothing of
; being leaders m it, u it were onetenth what they are made to appear by newspaper reports? No fairi minded person can believe for a moi ment that such men would stand for such things, and the fact that they belong, to say nothing of their being j its leaders, is sufficient recommenda- : tion for the high integrity and value of the order."
WOMEN OF CLINTON , COUNTY GIVE BIBLES
Are Supplying Many Schools in Ohio With "Holy Writ" and "Old Glory"
LINCOLN, Neb., Nov. 7. A wellknown representative of the Klan
L-pcke recently to a good audience at the World Forum luncheon at the University of Nebraska. The audience was made up very largely of students and professors. He repudiated the many reported whippings' as
I political propaganda by the enemy
and declared not one case naa been proven against the order id the entire country. He told what the Klan stood for and advocated. He devoted much of his time to discussing Romanism arid Americanism; education and what Rome had done in the world's history in the past, and what she would do if her onward march was not stopped. He declared the press of the country Rome ruled, and said it was practically impossible to get a word in a newspaper in this
country any ways friendly to or in favor of Klanism. He talked about ! the constitution, and in referring to
education said that Nebraska would have a law on the books in two years something like the OFegon school law, compelling all children to attend public schools at least until they had secured a fundamental knowledge of the country and its institutions. His speech was well taken, and many questions asked and answered by the speaker.
NO PARTICIPATION WITHOUT INQUIRY U. S. Demands Time to Investigate Before Going Into Reparations Conference
IrontorpHolds Klan Meet Crowd Is Responsive IRONTON, Ohio, Nov, 7. The Knights of the Ku Klux Klan held an invitational meeting in a certain building in Ironton lately. Great interest was manifested by the crowd which practically filled up the limited space. The Kleagle spoke earnestly and with no uncertain meaning and his words sank deep into the thoughts of those present. His speech was well received and at its
conclusion a number of persons ex
pressed their desire to become affiliated with the great movement.
WILMINGTON, O., Nov. 7. The Women of the Ku Klux Klan of Clinton county have found a most effective method-ef expressing many of the principles embraced in their organization, by purchasing Ameri
can flags for a number of the school buildings in this county. The co-operation of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan has been evident in their program of patriotism and it is with their active support that the work has proved successful. Want All Schools Supplied It is the hope of the Clinton county women that within a short time no school in their community will be without "Old Glory" floating from flagstaffs on or near the building and that Bibles will be in every room in
the buildings. Already five schools
have treen visited by the Klanswomen and programs have been offered during the presentation. The first three schools receiving the gifts were Mt. Pleasant, Kingman and Lumberton. The Klanswomen have made these presentations possible through personal donations and money earned from the sale of
"eats" at the Blanchester Klonklave.
Two other schools have recently been added to the list. On Wednesday afternoon, October 17, a large American flag, nine Bibles and a Bible Commentary
were the gifts at the Lee's Creek centralized high school. -Chirty-two robed Klansmen, with masks discarded for the occasion, appeared and carried out a prearranged program.
WASHINGTON, D. C, Nov. 3. The United States will, refuse to participate in the proposed reparations conference unless it is permitted to inquire into Germany's capacity to pay. This statement was made by an authorized spokesman for the government, who added: "It never has been our intention1 that the delegates to the conference should conduct an abortive and limited inquiry." Premier Raymond Poincare then, if press reports from Paris are verified, seemingly succeeded in imposing a condition to which this government will not give its assent when he said:
"Let it (the reparations conferonce) not attempt either to change decisions already taken regarding
the total amount of our credits, or
engage in future attempts indefi nitely." Agreement Useless, It Is Said
The spokesman said all previous
official utterances of-the French pre
mier could be squared with the terms u-pon which it is proposed to conduct the conference. It was asserted if that government Is notified officially
that the conference must not investigate Germany's reparation, paying ability it will not be worth while to agree to American participation. The state department was without v
word from France that Poincare has
barred a reparations inquiry, but officials obviously were disturbed by the cable dispatches coming through unofficial channels.
The theory hitherto held by. Secre
tary Charles E. Hughes that in his various' public SDeeches Premier
Poincare merely was reserving all
French rights from the danger of
Deing arbitrarily disposed of by the conference, is shaken badly.
Conditions Are Increased Officials now admit that it looks very much as though Poincare is following deliberately the policy of piling condition on condition until Great Britain and the United States give up all hope of reducing Germany's war bill through international agreement. . Poincare's present obstructive tactics, it was said, go much further than was intended by those who drafted the Versailles treaty.

Attempting to tie a wagon wheel to the top of the Grafton high school flagstaff, as a Hallowe'en prank, Holly Hayes, a pupil, sixteen, fell fifty feet to the ground and was killed. IRONTON, Ohio, Nov. 7. The colored people in Jhis city have invited a woman from the Ku Klux Klan organization to appear at their church and explain what the Ku Klux Klan stands for. This is the first invitation of the kind, to be given by colored people although several instances are recorded where Klansmen have visited colored churches with donations.
BISBEE, Ariz., Nov. 7. The Klans of Bisbee and Douglas held a joint meeting at Twin Buttes, two peaks located between the two cities, last Tuesday night, and a large class of candidates was initiated by the drill team of Bisbee which conducted the initiation ceremonies for the Douglas candidates together with their own. While the naturalization ceremonies were going on, a large fiery cross was lighted n one of the buttes and when the class had fin
ished taking the oath of Americanism a barbecue was held and venison
was served from a deer killed in the mountains by one of the Douglas
Klansmen.

BOSTON, Mass., Nov. 7. Another instance of plotting to suppress free
speech and deny American citizens the right of pubHc assembly, as
guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States, came to naught in Greater Boston when real Americans met in defiance of Mayor James M.
Curley's edict against a Klan ban
quet. Curley, one of the alien oppositions' most powerful henchmen
notified the Klansmen that they could not hold the banquet, but the
banquet was held and a big natural ization meeting as well.
King Kleagle Guest of Honor F. Eugene Farnsworth, king kleagle of New England, was the guest
of honor. High officials o New Eng-.i
land klans were also in attendance. Klansmen from Maine, New Hamp-
; shire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Ohio, Illinois, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Nebraska and Massachusetts were present. The banquet was prepared by Klansmen and served by Klansmen. I King Kleagle Farnsworth made a
talk in which he expressed his enthusiasm for the success of the banquet and assured those present that the Klan was growing throughout
all of New England rapidly and spreading like wildfire throughout, the United States.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., Nov. 2
Now that the state has rid itself of martial law and its author and the fiery cross is blazing- forth once more, it is announced that activities by the Ku Klux Klan throughout Oklahoma will be resumed in public. Parades and other demonstrations will not be made in cities which have ordinances which prohibit, and no violation of law of any character will be committed by the Klan, but the order will be on the map from now on.' This was a semi-official state
ment by a Klansman in high authority.
