PROVIDENCE, R. I., Oct. 23 The joint social session of th Knights of Columbus and the Masonie Club

of -Woonsocket, is, in the eyes of many, merely a move for the personal political gain of the few concerned, and has caused much unfavorable comment by all true Masons throughout the country. To their understanding eyes the move simply means that Freemasonry is once again to be used

as the political cat's-paw of politi

cians within the order, with the aid and eager consent of Roman Catholics running things political in behalf of the church.

The first notice of the so-called

"social Joint session" was sprun

last week. While It was intimated

that the Initiative in the affair, came from the Masonic Club, it was t'je K. C. end which saw to it that the glad news that Masonry was again

entrapped in the- Roman riet was sent out broadcast to all points from coast to coast. So far as the

Knights of Columbus is concerned the affair is a matter of politics, pure and simple. They admit it, and in doing so do not attempt to diBguise

their opinion that it is a very clever

political move on their part. Using, Not Serving

But with Masonry, which frowns

on its members taking part in politics as Masons, the "social joint ses

sion" stunt to be pulled off is merely

a little promotion game for the pur

pose of inciting and encouraging the

feeling of brotherly love and fra-

ternalism between Masonry and the

Knights of Columbus. The motives of the political Masons are carefully

are at one with the politically in

and file look on with grave doubt

and some considerable suspicion at

the spectacle of Rome's cordiality

and endeavored to destroy. These

real Masons see in the Woonsocket session just another case of crafty politicians using the order to pull

the chestnuts out of the fire for them

In their toadyism to the Roman Cath

ollc vote. Sweeping Influence of Klan

Still further in the background of New England politics is the sudden

and sweeping influence of the Klan

which has entered Yankeeland over

night and to its opponents is most

disconcertingly making its presence

felt in this suction of the country

The recent victory at the polls in

Portland, Me., was a painful eye opener to both the professional pol

iticians and those opposed to the

Klan. The demonstration served

not only to disturb both the Repub

lican and Democratic politicians, bu

has seriously aroused the fears of

the strong Irish Roman Catholic ele

ment in Massachusetts, which assumes to dominate political affairs not only in Massachusetts but in surrounding states as well. The Klan is accused of being the firebrand which is upsetting all former political conditions in New England, and it Is said to be the purpose of the leaders of both parties to read

just affairs to their former status if possible by its elimination. With this end in view members of the Knights of Columbus, with the thought in mind of getting rid of the Klan, propose to make an alli

ance with politicians ' in Masonry whom they think will be able to assist them in the determination to

kill off the Klan organization for

political reasons of their own. The

joint social session of the Woonsocket Masonic Club and the Knights

of Columbus Is the forerunner of

numerous other such meetings ir.

case the great rank and file of Freemasonry will stand for the conspiracy. Professional Politics Uneasy . Since the announcement of Woonsocket's social session, several writ

ers have undertaken to explain that for the sake of party organization

alone the Klan should be ousted
