LITCHFIELD TARES KINDLY TO KLAN

MERE PIFFLE", SAY AMERICANS AT ALMA

LITCHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 20. A

Crowd of approximately 300 persons gathered In the park here last Thursday night to hear a well-known speaker give an address In which the Ideals and principles' of the Ku Klux Klan were explained. The speaker was a good talker and made a fine Impression on his

hearers, who listened with interest as the truth about the Klan was unfolded. It is said that another meeting was held on Friday night In which more Information was given out, but nothing of a more definite nature could be learned owing to the fact that the mealing was strictly Invitational. Many of the most prominent and respected citizens here are said to be connected with the Klan, but as usual no names havebeen given out.

ALMA, Mich., Oct. 20. The Ku Klux Klan Jia3 been building it3 or

ganization here for some time, but tjie work has been done so quietly that little has been heard about itThe people of Alma have responded to the call of the Klan in a wonderful way, and as in the case of all cities, the representative citi

zens are found in abundance among its folds. The first outbreak of the opposition has recently made its appearance through the Record, a newspaper published here, but as past experience proves the weakness- of newspapers against the Klan, the people are regarding Its antl articles as mere piffle.

DANVILLE. Ind., Oct 20. Danville

was jammed with a crowd of 20,4)00 persons last Saturday who thronged

the streets to see the Dig parade

given by the Knights of the Ku Klux

Klan. The town was literally packed

with automobiles and every available

parking space was used. Many resi

dents here opened up their yards that

visitors might be accommodated witn

space for their cars.

The courthouse yard and the street

in Iront was -crammed wiin peopie

who listened to an address given by

well-known speaker who stood on

the courthouse balcony and addressed the crowd. The speaker gave a stirring patriotic talk and the

reat crowd cheered him time and

time again as the wonderful truths

of his remarks awoke the sentiment of America in the breasts of all those

withinearing distance.

Delegates from Indianapolis, Terre

Haute, Crawfordsville, Russellville

and every town in the county, helped

swell the crowd and make the affair

a wonderful success. Two Thousand in Parade

The parade, in which 2,000 persons

took part, was a magnificent affair

and too much can not be said of the

wonderful impression it made on all

those who witnessed it.

"With over two hundred mounted Klansmen in full regalia, and thirty

beautifully-decorated floats, It was

an array of splendor-to be long remembered. The music was furnished by the North Salem, Plainfield and Brownsburg bands, and a boy drum

and bugle corps from Russellville

also took a place in the lines. It

took more than a half hour for the

parade to pass a given point and the

crowd cheered the living spirit of

America continuously on its way.

All restaurants were crowded to

capacity during the evening and lunch stands operated by Protestant

churches -were kept busy every minute of the time supplying food for the hungry merrymakers. A brilliant fiery cross was displayed from the balcony of the courthouse and another, which could be seen for miles, shone forth from the roof of a local restaurant. The Fox News Service had a cameraman on the job who took a film of the parade. The film was shown at a local theater the following Monday. Bible Placed in Schools As a great moral force on any com

munity the effect of Klan ideals was brought to light in a recent enact

ment of a measure by the board of

education here whereby the Bible was placed in the schools to be read without discussion to every class each day. Another innovation which has been made this year by J. R. Shannon, superintendent of schools, is the display of an American flag in each

schoolroom and Old Glory is also hoisted over the 'buildings "each morning with appropriate ceremonies.

HOBOKEN, N. J., Oct. 22. At a

meeting of the federation of GermanAmericans, Roman Catholics, of Hudson county, last week, In the St. Nicholas auditorium, the Rev. Peter Thomas, of Jersey City, made an at

tack on the Ku Klux Klan and charged the Oklahoma trouble as the direct result of the Ku Klux Klanism

n that state. Following his excoria

tion of the Klan the meeting adopted a resolution endorsing the action of

tne governor of Oklahoma. Another

resolution urged citizens of the

county to disregard party ties and

vote against undesirable candidates

who support malicious- legislation.

The meaning of this'resolution, it is

alleged, was to urge Roman Catho

well as to oppose all candidates who

do not favor the wet party.

BRIDGETON, N. J., Oct. 20. Ac

tivities by the Ku Klux Klan are

greatly on the increase in this part of New Jersey and each week the

local Klan initiates a big class of candidates. The Bridgeton Klan is planning another big outdoor ceremony at which a large class of candidates will be taken into the organ

ization. It is also understood that the Women of the Ku Klux Klan are getting very strong here. A band is

now being formed which will have one hundred and fifty pieces. It will appear in full Klan regalia.

Cumberland county Klansmen are

doing much to increase church at

financially aided the First Baptist

pastor of the church, has been complimented by the Klansmen for

THE MIDDLE CLASS j One cheap sort of criticism which the Klan Is facing is the remark one occasionally hears that the organization is hopelessly "middle class" in its membership. Probably that statement is true. There is a sense in which the term is a high compliment. The Boston "middle class," for example, is considerably more "high-bro"w" than"the

wealthy caste. Almost every start

ling achievement in science and in

art has been made by a man from that group of "ordinary people" that lies between the very rich and the

sadly poor. Edison is certainly

TO CAPACITY HOUSES The colleges are filled this fall. Education is playing to a capacity house. Yale numbers 850 in its freshman class. Many colleges are full to the limit and can Enroll no more students this season. People are grasping for an education ho never before seemed to realize the need of it. Princeton has eliminated many who knocked at its door for admission. Wilson College is filled with eage'r, interested young women who are intent upon education. Is it not a pity that' there is not one great university, at least, where a one hundred per fcent American can get one hundred per cent educational training? But the gift will come, ; Klansmen the gift will come !

EATON RAPIDS, MICH.

BATON RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 20. G. A. R. Park was packed tp the river's edge last Wednesday night by a large crowd of persons that came from many different points to hear an address on the principles of the Ku Klux Klan. The speaker gave an explanation of. many, different objects held in view by the Klan and his talk was such that his hearers had a much

clearer idea of the great movement

than they ever had before.

He was interrupted many times

by bursts of applause from the en

thusiastic crowd and when his talk was concluded many persons made

application for membership in the

order.

One feature of the evening was

the fact that a great many applica

tions were made by boys and girls

who wished to join the Junior order of the Klan. A number of threatening letters

have been received by different citisens signed K. K. K., but all have been traced down and were found

to have been fakes. The shallow

brained marplots who write anony

mous letters are not to be found
