CLINTON TO HAVE BIG MEET SEPT. 8

Much Interest Shown in Sur

rounding Community and Large Crowd Is Expected

Dr. Evans; Imperial Wizard, Issues Official Statement

CLINTON, Ind., Aug. 22. September 8 will be Klan day In Clinton and so much Interest has been

aroused since It became rumored j about that thousands of families from ! surrounding towns and counties are preparing to make that day one to be long remembered. Picnic and Barbecue An all-day picnic will be held in Overpeck's grove, one and one-half miles north of the city, where a sixtyacre parking space is provided. Excellent roads run directly to the place, including the Dixie B State Road No. 10. There is a well of good, cold, pure water on the grounds and plenty of shade for the basket dinners, although a barbecue dinner will be provided for those who do not bring their own. A series of addressee by nationally-known speakers will be given during the day and there wttl be a varied program of entertainment. Invitation ia extended to all Klaasmen throughout the state. Local Elan Growing Fast

Although the population of Clinton

is about 60 per cent foreign, includ

ing one J. "W. Slattery, who passes handbills for the amusement of the

unsuspecting public, the membership of the local Klan Is increasing so rapidly that It will soon be second to none in the realm of Indiana when compared per capita. It is estimated that a crowd numbering from twenty-five to thirty thousand will be present and preparations are being made to handle the vast throng with the highest efficiency.

The Women's Organization will also perform ceremonies during the day.

FAIR GROUNDS AT

SIDNEY OVERFLOWS

Klansmen " Hold Spectacular Ceremonies Large Class Takes Elan Oath

SIDNEY, O., Aug. 25. All roads led to the Shelby county fair grounds last Wednesday night when the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan staged a gigantic celebration which Included many patriotic speeches, a big initiation ceremony and a spectacular display of fireworks that brought cheer after cheer from the surging throngs.

Human Fiery Cross Feature

One of the big features was the

formation of a human fiery cross by a huge body of Klansmen in full regalia, each holding a red torch on

high. The altar was In the center of the living cross and before this a class of 600 candidates were naturalized in the solemn initiation cere

monies of the Invisible Empire. Earlier in the evening were

speeches on Americanism and the Ku Klux Klan that were received with much enthusiasm by the monster crowd and after the initiation came a wonderful display of fireworks that were beautiful beyond description.

Fireworks Bring Applause

When the three Ks were lighted together with a series of rapid-fire

explosions, pandemonium broke

loose, and the pitch of enthusiasm

was reached when "the little red

schoolhouse" blazed forth In all its glory, symbolic of all that is dear to the sons and daughters of America. - The people of this county have awakened to the principles for which the Klan stands, which is the explanation of the intense interest shown in every town, village and hamlet. .

Dr. Hiram W. Evans, Imperial Wizard of the Invisible Empire Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, issued the following official statement concerning the Carnegie riot, following a conference with, organizer? and

Kl eagles of Pennsylvania at the

Fort Pitt Hotel, Pittsburgh, Sunday:

The action of the mob of Car

negie residents, senses of anarchy. The Klansmen of Western Pennsyl

vania gathered on a hillside over

looking Carnegie early in the evening, and following the initiation of 1,000 men into the order paraded in

orderly manner in the direction of

the town. They were halted at a bridge connecting Qlendale and Carnegie by trucks and other vehicles barring the road. Missiles of every

description were thrown at the Klansmen, Fence railings, brlc&s, stones, coal, in fact every object that possibly could maim the lawabiding Klansmen were hurled at them. "In an effort to prevent their constitutional rights of peaceable assembly being abridged by an element of citizenry absolutely dangerous to the safety and cause of freedom, the Klansmen moved forward a square where the attacking forces made ready fox their coming with a bulwark of paving stones and bricks.. A shower of these missiles fell on

the Klansmen, the civilians began firing from a dark side street and Klanaman Abbott fell mortally wounded. "The Klansmen, In compliance with a request of assembled deputy sheriffs, went back to the meeting place on the hillside and then returned to their homes. Klansman

Abbott was killed because he exer

cised his constitutionally guaran

teed right of peaceable assembly,

-free speech and free movement over

the highways of our country. "Jewish, Catholic and negro peo

pies have paraded in the Pittsburgh district and, according to every rec

ord and information given me, not

a single participant in their parades

ever has been harmed in the least by a Protestant spectator, nor has

any attempt Deen nrnae to bring

about such an occurrence. We are

determined that this and all other parts of our great land shall be made safe for native-born Americans and that every right given us In the constitution, made by our forefathers, shall be preserved to us and to our posterity. "Burgettstown was murdered. When conditions come' to such a stage In this enlightened age that peaceable Americans banding them selves into a patriotic organization are prevented from exercising the same rights as Catholics, Jews and negroes, and which are guaranteed

by that constitution formed by our

forefathers, It is high time action Is taken. Cahollcs, Jewish, Italian and negro people have- paraded the bywayB of this Pittsburgh commu

nity and not once has a participant

Deen harmed m the least by a Protestant spectator. The regrettable

and certainly ruthless action of the un-American element of Carnegie's

citizenry Saturday night is jnst cause

lor a greater concentration- on the

part of 100 per cent American citizens with the view of preventing its

recurrence. And we, aa Klansmen,

pledge ourselves to this just cause.

"The Klan is here for every purpose. Furthermore, it Is here to stay. It is to be hoped those who

desire our dissolution will refrain

from committing murder in any at

tempt, to destroy,jis."
