COLUMBUS, Ohio, August Orders have been issued to

branch of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in Ohio to in no way sup

port an Italian speaker, who is traveling about the state giving a

ribald talk on his experiences in the

convent ot Santa Maria at Rome,

where he studied for the priesthood ot the Catholic church:

The speaker opens his talk with

some flowery language about the Ku Klux Klan; enters into his alleged experiences, which are told in any

thing but a fair light, and winds up with a collection.

Some Ohio Klans, not knowing of

the man and his methods, supported

talks by him. However, state headquarters have issued orders that all support shall be discontinued. His lecture rather injures than helps the cause of the Klan. The Klan is a "pro" organization from beginning to end and in no way subscribes to

rthe "anti," hate lectures of some

few individuals, it ia pointed out.

With the growth of the Klan in this

state, the citizens of Michigan are

beginning to learn about this great

and totally American organization that is founded upon the principles laid down by the lathers of our coun

try. Speakers on the workings of Klandom are being received with such a welcome that it will be neces

sary to put more of these orators in the field to supply the fast growing

demand for the truth; and the burning of fiery crosses, which is growing more frequent throughout the state each day, is received with an enthusiasm that shows plainly the trend of thought held by the vast majority. Bulwark Is Built The history of the Klan in Michigan is merely a repetition of the his

tory of the Klan in each and every state into which it has entered. Influences that would set to nought the ideals and institutions that are loved and fostered by every true born

American, anticipate the entrance of this organization into new territory

and immediately attempt to build a bulwark of opposition and prejudice which, were it not for the fact that

truth, right and justice must prevail,

could never be broken down.

This organized opposition, how

ever, with all its clever schemes

concocted by an influence schooled

in deceit for centuries, can not over

come the wave of sentiment held by native-born Protestants. It merely

acts as a dam against which the flood

tide of intelligence pounds until with

a mighty crash the waves of knowl edge break through. High Tide In Klandom

This has happened in Michigan!

Today is high tide in Klandom! To

day Michigan is calling for Klan

speakers; fiery crosses dot the hill

sides and each and every night

classes from twenty-five to classes numbering into the thousands are

being initiated. Inquiries from the

most remote spots in this big state

are being received by state officials

in which citizens make known their desire to become affiliated with this great Protestant movement. Communities that have as yet had no

4-speakers are clamoring for informa

tion. Those places that have been favored with addresses concerning the Klan are asking for more. As an indication of the enthusiasm and interest now manifest in this state, it can be said that among the great avalanche of letters that flooded the office of The Fiery Cross upon the announcement of the formation of the Junior Klan two weeks ago, were scores from Michigan. America Shall Dominate The pioneer Klansmen of the Wol

verine state, who have blazed the

way, and by their unfailing loyalty to America and her constitution have brought about a situation through

wnicn tnis state nas now become a thriving, living and most active realm of the Invisible Empire forever, and through which the spirit of America

shall dominate.

VEEDERSBURG, Ind., Aug. 13.

Public schools will open in this

township within a few weeks, with! the Introduction into the course of study of the Bible. Veedersburg is

one of the cities to lead the way in Fountain county, but as the entire

school system is undergoing a regen

eration, it will probably be a short

time until the Holy Bible and Amer

icanism will be taught in all schools of this county. The resolution as passed by the local school- board a short time ago, provides for the compulsory study of the Bible in Veedersburg high sehool and the graded schools during stated periods of the school week, as well

as proviumg ior me ottering of a

regular course in Bible study on the high school course.

Resolution As Passed

This resolution, which may well

become a model for school boards of

other Indiana cities, follows:

Believing that familiarity with the

Holy Bible is an indispensable part of

person's education, and that the

public schools offer the best means for a systematic reading and studv

of the Bible, be it now resolved, that

the Board of Education of the city of

Veedersburg, Indiana, purchase and

cause to be placed in the library of

tne Veedersburg high school, one

copy of the Holy Bible (King James Version), and such additional copies

or tne Bible or related supplementary material as may be recom

mended by the superintendent of schools and approved by the board of education.

Be it further resolved, that the

principal of the Veedersburg high is hereby directed by the board of education and the superintendent of

schools to cause the pupils at the high school building to spend at

least one twenty-minute period per week in the reading and study of the Bible.

Be it further resolved, that a full-

time, elective course in the study of

the Bible be offered to the high

school pupils, for which course reg

ular high school credit shall be

granted, in accordance with permission already granted for same by the

state board of education.

Believing that familiarity with the

Holy Bible is an indispensable part of a person's education, and that the public schools offer the best means

for systematic reading and study of the Bible, be it new resolved that the board of education of the city of Veedersburg, Indiana, purchase and cause to be placed in each room of the graded school in said city, one copy of the Holy Bible (King James

Version).

Be it further resolved, that each

teacher in said grade school is here

by directed by the board of education and the superintendent of

schools to spend at least thirty minutes per week with the pupils in her

room,' in the reading and study of

the Bible.

arations are going forward to take care of members in other states in

which the Junior Klan has been Incorporated.

Response Most Gratifying The response which has met the

announcement of the organization of the Junior Klan has been more than gratifying and one can hardly

overestimate the . great good that

will result to the young Americans

who are clamoring to Join, and the resultant good to America as these young men and young women grow

into manhood and womanhood

staunch in their belief of all things

American. These members of the

Junior Klan, the future fathers and

mothers of our country, in whose

hands the destiny of America shall

be, will have deep within them a re

spect for our flag, a knowledge of

the principles on which our country

is founded, a fiery spirit of true Americanism and will hold a deep

and undying desire that American

institutions, American ideals and

American citizenship shall never de

cay nor be overthrown by foreign

influences.

These members shall not grow into

manhood and womanhood ignorant

of the many insidious poisons against which they have to guard to

maintain America's freedom her

school system and her free press and

free public schools.

CINCINNATI, O., Aug. 14. The Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, to

gether with the Women's Organiza

tion, will have an all-flay open meet

ing at the Carthage fair grounds

here next Saturday, August 18, in

which, from all reports, a large crowd is expected to attend. Prepara

tions by out-of-town Klans through

out Ohio and in Indiana and Kentucky to send large delegations each are

being made at this time.

There will be speaking in the afternoon by prominent Klan orators,

and their addresses will be on pa

triotism, Americanism and the prin

ciples of the Klan.

In the evening there will be two

initiation ceremonies conducted with

in a short time of one another.

Large number of candidates will be naturalized and taken into both the

Klan and the Women's Organization

Band concerts and various forms of

entertainment will fill out the pro

gram of the day.

WASHINGTON, D. C, August 13. Charges - that employes of many

coal mining companies in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Alabama are held In a state of virtual isolation In the towns where they are residents were made today in a report addressed to the United States coal commission by a voluntary com

mittee of educators and clergymen. The payment of deputy sheriffs by coal companies also was attacked,

and the commission was asked to consider whether this practice does

not constitute a threat against the impartial application ot the law.

Committee of Inquiry

The authors ot the report, who de

scribe themselves as the committee of inquiry on coal and civil liberties,

are: ZecharfSh Chafee, Jr., pro

fessor of law at Harvard University;

Prof. Herbert A. Miller, of Oberlin College; the Rev. John A. Ryan, director of the National Catholic Welfare Council, Washington; the Rev. Arthur E. Holt, social service secretary" of the Congregational Church,

Boston, and Kate Holladay Claghorn,

head of the department of social re

search of the New York School of Social Work. Winthrop D. Lane

nau cnarge oi tne committee s investigations, being assisted by Jerome Davis, assistant professor of soci

ology, Dartmouth College. A typical lease, says the commit

tee, is that used by the H. C. Prick

Coke Company at its operations at

both Fairchance, Fayette county

Pa., and Mammoth, Westmoreland

county. Pa., which states that "the rights to the premises shall be only

the right of ingress and egress to

the lessee."

Families Are Restricted

The report said that the families

of miners must live in houses Jn

towns that are situated on company

property, and that before they can have such houses they must sign

leases. It then submitted alleged

copies of these leases. Some ot these

forbid the miner to receive in his

house any person objectionable to

the coal company. They further re

strict the use of roads, alleys, lanes and other ways leading to the village homes to the miner and members of his immediate family. One company, W. J. Rainey, Inc., operating in Fayette county, Pa., the report said, allows the miner three kinds of visitors, namely, the doctor, the moving wagon man and the undertaker, and the lessee agrees not to use nor to permit the use of the

lands, valleys, roads or alleys of the premises by any other persons.

Drayman, Doctor, Undertaker The Rainey lease, allowing the

passage of physicians, moving van men and undertakers, reads in part

as follows:

"The lessee hereby further agrees

to do no act or thing, nor suffer or cause the same to be done, whereby any person or persons may be invited or allowed to go upon said premises, or upon said private ways or roads, or upon other grounds of the lessor, except physicians attending the lessee and his family; teamsters or draymen moving lessee and his family belongings into said premises or away from the same, and undertakers with hearse, carriages and drivers and friends in case of death of the lessee or any

member of his family."

Censorship Exercised

These towns," said the committee,

'are the continuous residence places

of scores of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people. They stand to them for homes - and for

whatever degree of community life and existence these people possess. It is this fact that gives to the control exercised by the coal company and to the leases, which we submit,

their peculiar significance. It is over the continuous home and social life of miners and their families that these leases cast a shadow of super

vision and even of censorship."

MARION. Ind, Aug. 13. The funeral of Gerkin brothers, which was held here last week from the Ninth Street Christian Church, was one ot the largest funerals ever held In Grant county. than 1,000 Klansmen stood at the midnight hour Tuesday night with

beads bared while in a heavy mist

of rain ana during prayer knelt. The

quartet furnished music. When 50

per cent of the organization will gather from all parts of the county in the face of continuous threatening storms for eight hours it plainly demonstrates the sincerity of men.

Boone county is very active at the present time and is also aiding the neighboring counties every way possible.
