The above is a picture taken at the celebration held on July 4th by the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. The photograph was taken immediately before the initiation of a great class of candidates. The Klan at Huntington 13 growing rapidly and there is much enthusiasm throughout the state in connection with the steady increase of members. The ceremony which took place at the spot pictured above is reported as one of the most beautiful ever held in West Virginia.
NEW PHILADELPHIA SCENE OF BIG MEET
NEW PHILADELPHIA, O., July 16. The Knights of the Ku Klux Klan last week held the second outdoor meeting and initiated four hundred candidates. Rain threatened early In the evening but the big crowd that attended was rewarded for its "bravery" and witnessed a
most impressive ceremony. The next meeting, the date of which will be announced at an early date, there will be a class approximating six hundred. The spirit of the Klan permeates Tuscarawas county with the result that the organization is growing exceedingly fast.
Standing Room Only in United Brethren Church
GERMANTOWN, O., July 16. The United Brethren Church was filled and overflowing last Sunday night when it was announced that after the regular sermon the pastor would speak on "Americanism." Crowds were standing about the doors long before they were open and there
were as many people on the outside after the church was filled as there were inside. A fiery cross was

large crowd of persons witnessed a
solemn and impressive ceremonial
held by the Knights of the Ku Klux
Klan at the fair grounds on last Tuesday. While a large fiery cross
burned a large class of candidates were Initiated into the organization. The growth of the Klan here and in
this vicinity is becoming much more
rapid.

ciation will hold a convention and field day at Bridgeport, Conn., on
August 24 and 25. The Grottos in
the association include a membership of 12,500 Prophets of the Mystic
Veil.

The Klan, as dreamed by the dreamer, is a thing apart and differ-! ent from the Klan as formed, aided, supported, guided and directed by Almighty God in the working out of Hia invisible purposes and His mighty decrees. Sowly, stone by stone, the magnificent building of the temple of Klancraft was builded. The movement in this, as in all similar movements, used the vitality, the souls, bodies and- lives of its first members and upon the foundations
which they had builded with their lives, their influences and their works, we have come down today to
the great day when we are moving
rapidly and unitedly to the accom
plishment of the great purposes for which the Creator -called Into being
this Institution and sent It forth
upon its holy mission. ! The ' Klan is an organization founded upon the great fundamental
ideas of helpful service from man to man, from man to country, and from
man to God. Under this banner, u you will but keep your eyes ever on
your leadership, if you will but beep
your prayers ever ascending to Almighty God that strength be given to
your leadership, if you will but be
Klansmen as you yourself must in
terpret the true meaning of that sa
cred word, the ultimate success of our cause will be certain and the
fruition of our utmost hopes will be
absolutely assured.
What are the real basic principles
for which we must fight in order to preserve our country as a great free and enlightened nation, leading the
van of civilization and preserving the most of freedom to all mankind? The greatest necessity is that we save and enlarge and broaden our
great free public school system un
der which the mass of our popula
tion are and must always be edu-
cated so that they can, with their own miuds, properly understand and
correctly gauge the ideas that are presented, the laws that are enacted
and the acts that are performed under their system of government. The word Liberty encompasses and carries, within one small portion of its wide meaning the things of which I have already spoken. What are the agencies and who are the people that would try to circumscribe the educational possibilities and prevent the enlightenment of mind and conscience which comes from a free and
broad education? During all ages a brutal and religious priesthood have sought through superstition, igno
rance and passion to prevent the emancipation of the human souls
who come within the spread of their influence. Slowy from age to age the proponents of real liberty have
come to see and to know from the history of their past and the acts of their present that the only sure way to insure to a people independence
of thought and action is - separation of religion and the' broad education
of the masses of the people.
Slowly, from age to age, the heroic
thinking men of dependable charac
ter and sterling worth, have regis
tered with their lives and their in
fluences, a protest against the men
tal enslavement of their people and
the consequent degradation of their race. The first great duty of any state is to bring its citizenry to the
highest possible level of efficiency so
that the services rendered to state
could be greater and their conse
quent enjoyment of their liberty
more pronounced and of immeasurably greater extent, thus concretely
the greatest duty of any government.
When politics and religion through selfishness and superstition gather
the reins of government, constitu
tional government is in danger and
liberty will rapidly lose her standing
place,
Now from the experience of sixty
centuries and more of mankind's his tory, the fact of white racial suprem
acy has been demonstrated in every
ago, under all conditions and every
where upon the face of the earth
Sixty centuries ago when all the raoes of the world took an even start
in their journey from barbarism to
wards civilization and from darkness
to light, the races were free and
equal, not only in the sight of Al
mighty God as human beings, but alike, free for action and alike capable of performance, but while the inferior races, which are all the races except the white race, were dallying with the primrose paths of pleasure, wasting part of their existence in idleness, sensuality and
laziness, the men of the white race were moving steadily .onward with ever increasing strides towards enlightenment and truth, thus from age to age, and from century to century, the dlstanoe between the races has ever been a widening distance. - I bring to you no doctrine of hatred, either of alien people or re
ligious sect, but I want to leave with
you a message of genuine responsi
bility for your own development and
genuine responsibility for your own
action as you act along these lines,
The doctrine of Klanishness is as
old as man. The first organization
of a Klan of which there is human record was upon the table lands of
Persia, where a people was con
fronted with the destruction, of their homes, their property and their liberties by an organized band of marauders. For one hundred and forty years America has been a heaven of refuge for the poor, the diseased, the
maimed, the halt, and the blind;.
here they round a hospital for the cure of their minds, their bodies and their souls, in a land watered by the purest water of liberty, lit by the all-
conquering rays of a clean God's
sun; where prodigal nature had, with a lavish hand, prepared for man's happiness, prosperity and freedom In
portuntty lay as never before at any
place or at any time in the world's history. Slowly we absorbed the
alien populations of the world who came to us with a desire to find refuge, home and peace. We cured their ills and assimilated them into our body politic and went about our Master's business, but there iame a
time when men of ulterior motives and unclean minds men without
character came to our shores and at
tempted to work out their purpose
and their philosophies upon our fair land. Now, when all the rest of the
world is diseased, when there ia no solidarity except ours, when all the balance of the world would like to find refuge beneath the Star Span
gled Banner, we must protect the
heritage given us by our forefathers
against the infiltration of the ruined
and distorted theories and the machinations of the enemies of society
Let s place our bars on a standard
of high usefulness and let's grant
citizenship only to those who are
born to the heritage, thus we will
solve the problem of a dangerous
assimilation and thus we will build
up a national standard of character
and of living which pas3 to succeed
ing ages and save our people from
innoculation of false ideas, peoples
and Gods.

Immigrants Into the United States

WASHINGTON, July 16. It is be
lieved in the capital that President
Harding will recommend to Con
gress, next December, that a drastic ! "anti-immigration bootlegging bill"!
be enacted into law.
Secretary of Labor James J. Davis
has gone to Europe to visit France,
.Poland, Roumama, Czechoslovakia, and other of the Balkan states, Belgium and England, to make a first
hand study of immigration conditions. He has drafted a bill providing for the- enrollment of all aliens in the United States, and it is this provision, the immigration officials believe, that will operate in large measure to prevent illegal entrance of immigrants. Under the present law immigrants going through Ellis Island and other ports are virtually dumped into, the flowing stream of humanity to go when and where they please, with no opportunity on
the part of the government to check up on them There are said to be
more than 1,000,000 aliens in the United States at this time who should be deported as undesirable, either because of physical or mental disability or because of their an
archistic views.
Chance to Search Out Aliens Enrollment of aliens will give the
government authority and opportu
nity to search out aliens who have
come into the country illegally as well as to prevent many thousands
of foreigners from seeking entrance to the United States before they embark from European or Asiatic ports. With such registration, many thousands would learn before they took passage that they would not be permitted to come in. Moreover, with inspection and registration at foreign ports, undesirables would not be permitted to sail. Nearly 50 per cent of the patients in the insane asylums of the United States are aliens who have come into this country suffering from mental or incurable diseases. All this will be
avoided, it is said, if registration and enrollment are required, and registration will minimize the smuggling into the country of aliens.
Knights Have Charge of Lee Murray Funeral
Lee Murray, who was employed at the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., and who died July 5th, was buried' Saturday, July 7th. The Knights of the Ku Klux Klan had entire charge of the funeral by request of the fami'y. Burial was at the Memorial cemetery. Rev. Everett Nixon officiated. Knights in full regalia acted a3 pallbearers There were over a hundred men in regalia who formed a guard around the house, standing shoulder
to shoulder. The Kan ceremony was given at the grave. A beautiful floral cross was presented by the organization.
It is indeed with great pleasure that I welcome you to the first great state klonvocation. I am sure that each of you is receiving the greatest inspiration of your life, and we welcome you to be a part of this assem
blage of men and women of the state of Ohio who love their coun
try, their home, each other, and all
humanity and who hold high as their
criterion of life, the life of Christ,
the Savior.
The American people are begin
ning to realize that it is not enough
to dwell serenely under the free In
stitutions of this country; that it is not enough to leave politics to the
other fellow;" that it is not enough
to leave the matter of government
to the "other fellow." It 13 not the
other fellow's" business, but our
own.
It is plain today that the American
people of all ranks and classes are
beginning to think for themselves
The American people are looking
forward to the dawn of a brighter
day in its civic, political and relig
ious life. What is the solution to
the problems that face the American
nation? The answer to the question
is the disruption and exposure of
every alien influence, to every de
signing politician, to every corrupt
publisher of a newspaper and the eradication of every other evil force
set "up in America. In short, ladles and gentlemen, the solution to many

SPRINGFIELD, 0., July 14. A delegation of more than 2,000 Klansmen attended the Ohio State Klonklave of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan from this county, which was held at Buckeye Lake on July 12.

Our welfare is bound up inseparably
with the welfare of all others. We prosper as the community prospers. We suffer as the community suffers. Our lives are interwoven, and so bound up with those of our fellow men that our lives are inseparable.
The Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is
the one institution in America that
will bind men together for the preservation of American ideals as laid
down by our forefathers.
In cementing men together it is well to- point out their responsibility
to the community. Possibly the
question comes to your mind, how will the Klan solve the great prob
lem that is before us. How can the Klan inspire the average citizen to
a greater respect for his country? How can the Klan make him-accept
a higher standard of patriotism? I
will answer by saying that the divine influence which guides the Klan will be a clarion call that will cause every man to answer within
his own breast and to himself will he be true to the promptings of his higher nature which is beyond the grasp of biology and physics.
Conscience is born of a doubt be
tween right and wrong and becomes
an" ever-present fact in man's daily existence. The beginning of good
citizenship is in serving the law. It
is only when men preserve the law.
and comply with its provisions out of preference for right conduct that
they become truly good citizens. Fear of the law may compel men to fight for their country, but the salvation
of any nation is in its citizenship who give of their lives for love and
devotion to the nation in times of peace and set up a government that it is not necessary to go into the blood of battle to serve and preserve. The Knights of the Ku Klux Klan
will restore the reins of govern
ment into the hands of the-Just and
place the responsibility of public office in the hands, and under the con
trol of men capable of discharging
that solemn trust.- Our problem now is to solidify our ranks, then before God approach the duties outlined for
us with a sincerity that borders on
the sublime, a sense of duty well
done, a faith well kept, and an hon
orable responsibility well discharged.
Have faith in the movement, for with God on the side of right what can prevail against it? The same infinite Father who cares for you
today will take care of you tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear
