EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN

The committee on education of the Grand Lodge of Texas is conducting a tate-wide campaign of open meet

ings in thirty-five cities and towns. Afternoon meetings will be open to

the public, but the evening gatherings will be limited to Master Masons. The programs will consist of music and talks on good citizenship, character building, public schools

and civic ideals.

Rutledge of Cincinnati, a national speaker for the organization, and a prominent Ohio woman who is connected officially with the Ladies of the' Ku Klux Klan? made speeches in the afternoon.

EVANSVILLE, Ind., July 16. Following an all-day homecoming

and picnic held at Mesker park on

laat Saturday, the Knights of the

Ku Klux Klan paraded along the principal streets of Evansville on

last Saturday night before enthusiastic throngs. It is estimated that 40,000 persons saw the parade and attended the homecoming. The chief speaker, of the day was "The Old Man," who delivered an address on "Back to the Constitution." The address was received with much enthusiasm by the big crowd at the park. The gatheVig was also addressed by other speakers, among whom were men prominent in public life in Indiana.

During the day an airplane, the property of the Evansville Klan, flew over the grounds and was viewed by Klansmen from Western Kentucky, Eastern Illinois and the thousands from Indiana.

Snappy Procession

The parade was formed in the city and due to the distance of the park from the downtown district no effort was made to transport a great number of marchers to the city to take art. The procession, however, was .jiiappy, the mounted Kfansmen in the beautiful robes of Klan officials to the automobiles that brought up the rear. About seven hundred Klansmen in full regalia took part in the parade The leading Klansmen rode with their visors up. The bands were full of pep and furnished inspiring music for the marchers and the spectators. The "mysterious fiery cross" fur

nished much speculation for the thousands that lined the curbs. The

cross, which was about four feet high and lighted with red electric

bulbs, was carried by a man who

had no visible-way of lighting the

cross which burned brightly

throughout the line of march.

gatherings In which he had ever

participated. In companies the Klansmen as

sembled at different sections of the

field under their commanders. Finally

a band struck up a military march and company after company fell in line, four abreast, and then split up in single file fashion and took up the

position of the guard. Many moving picture scenes of the assembling of the Klan and the ritual were taken. Several hundred men formed a huge human cross on the hillside; around them was stretche the outer guard. At the crest of the hill was erected the altar, with two fiery crosses. To the right was a 60-foot electrically lighted cross and to the

left a 60-foot burning cross held out the symbol of the Invisible Empire. At 9 o'clock, just at dark, a star shell gave the signal for the lighting cf reel fire candles in the hands of every robed Klansman forming the giant cross. Then the three bands, playing in unison, "Onward, Christian Soldiers," brought forward the 1,500 candidates. After the administering of the oaths, the outer guard closed in and permitted the public to come, nearer to the altar to hear a few short

speeches and special music. While the men were in session the Ladies of the Klan were taking in a class of 1,000 women in a klavern on the same field. A 25-foot fiery

cross was lighted at their meeting. When both meetings concluded the gorgeous fireworks display followed. Shells of every description, variety and color were discharged. The set pieces, lighted at the top of the hill, were the most unique that have been seen at any Buckeye Klan meeting. One especially, a "little red school-

house" in red fire, at which a bell was rung and the bands played "School - Days," brought wave after wave of cheers. Alongside of it was lighted the legend "One School." Fireworks from a barge in the middle of the lake, which was wit

nessed by thousands from the waterfront aLthe park, made a goregous spectacle as the water took up the

reflection of the multi-colored balls of fire. An enormous "K. K. K." in

red lights, around which rockets

were continuously exploding, brought

the klonklave to a close.

Except in the park, Klansmen in

regalia at all times wore their visors

up. This act, coupled with the good

fellowship and good cheer that per

vaaea tne entire gathering, gave many "aliens" a new idea of the

Klan.

EVANSVILLE, Ind., July 16. The

Indianapolis News, the fifth greatest newspaper in the world, carried a

news article Saturday as follows:

DIPERIAL WIZARD SPEAKS Dr. W. H. Evans of Atlanta, 1mperial wizard of the Klan, was the principal speaker in the afternoon. He denounced the former imperial wizard, W. J. Simmons, and asserted that those who supported him were "a bunch of soreheads who want to regain the power in the Klan they once abused." He denounced followers of Simmons and others who would secede

from the Klan as now constituted.

Referring to the movement in Texas looking toward secession, he as

serted that "division from within

will destroy our Influence, but united

we are lnlvncible." He referred to

his various arrests on several charges and insisted that they were

"tramed" by enemies of the Klan.

To the thousands who were here

to attend the Klan Klonklave this

fake dispatch is so evident that it completely discredits the News from

the very simple fact that Dr. H. W,

Evans was not at Evansville, made

no such speech and neither did any

one else.

To a thinking public the answer is

obvious.

Two Grosses Burned:

To Have Demonstration PIKETON, O., July 14. Two fiery

crosses were burned here on last Thursday night, one of them in the public square. The other was burned

on a high hill just south of the town

A large number of persons gathered

to see the crosses burn. It is under

stood that a large demonstration by the Ku Klux Klan will be held here

at a near date.
