Hope for Sufferers From Disfiguring Goitre Health Talk No. 12 By J. D. Goldsberry, D. C. The most dreaded ailment a woman faces is goitre. It is rare indeed that it is not disfiguring, as well as the cause of much suffering. It is a big thing to say to such women that such suffering Is rarely necessary, for in chiropractic .there is a method of correction which has been effective in case after case. It works in a perfectly natural way that is different from any other form of
i. n. goi.dshrrry. d. c. treatment. It succeeds where other Five years in practice methods fail because it gets at the cause and removes it. Where there is a competent chiropractor there Is always hope for the sufferer from goitre. By chiropractic spinal adjustments normal transmission of life Impulses over nerve lines to the affected region is restored. By pressure on the nerve there is irritation and overstimulation, by removing that pressure there is normal action, absorbing the overgrowth and reducing the swollen pressure on surrounding areas. SUFFERED TWO YEARS "I wish to state that I have been greatly benefited by chiropractic spinal adjustments. I suffered over two years with exophthalmic goitre. It was beginning to make swallowing a hardship and to bother my eyes. A friend advised ma to take chiropractic and after two weeks of adjustments I was feeling much'' better and after four months of adjustments my goitre had entirely disappeared. Chiropractic deserves the credit." Stella Ebert, Chiropractic Research Bureau, State No. 13G0K.

(By Eyewitness) The climax in the administration of Limber Lung Lew is about to unfold. The reduction in ranks of fifteen Protestants in the police de
partment on last Saturday, twelve of whom were Masons, and which move was a part of a plot to reduce in rank and discharge where pos
sible, all Masons in the employ of the city, was the dying gasp of an arrogant, confidence destroying ad
ministration. Limber Lung Lew, bossed by Bill Armitage, has played
his last card. With the many de
partments in the city government under fire, the police department
turned over to the use of the un-
American Unity League, hater of
Protestantism, and a plot to reduce
Masons, the reign of Limber Lung
Lew is fast drawing to a close.
At last the board of safety is to
be forced to act and Building Com
missioner Hamilton must face charges. This is but the beginning. Hamilton's acts are now under fire as are the acts of many in the administration. The action taken on Hamilton is the beginning of the end
for Limber Lung Lew.

Many Violations
The municipal code provides that no open stud wall may be erected v.-ithin the limits of the city of In
dianapolis. An open stud wall in violation of the criminal code was completed about May 30 in the Hotel English in the dance hall on the second floor. When this particular violation in a public hotel, where the safeguarding of the lives of human individuals was part of the building commissioner's duty was called to his attention by the inspector in charge, Francis Hamilton, son of "Dollar Bill" Hamilton,
commissioner of buildings, after a visit by the daughter of Wm. E. English, who in turrv had visited Free
man and Bill Armitage, told the building inspector to "pay no more attention ffb the English hotel job, that 'everything was fixed.' " We submit this for the thoughtful consideration of the board of safety. That Massachusetts Ave. Job At 885 Massachusetts avenue on property owned by the Massachu
setts & Pratt Realty Company, on a building constructed by the Service
Construction Company, is a foundation that does not conform to the law and the building code. This work was ordered stopped by the in
spector, but later Francis Hamilton, building commissioner, son of "Dollar Bill" Hamilton, Issued instructions to "let that job go on Massachusetts avenue, I fixed it up with them when they were here this morning," and this work proceeded without further interference, in violation of the city ordinance. The inadequate foundations are still
standing. On East Wabash street, close to East street, J. A. Schumacher Company are erecting a building with a pent-house for machinery on top. Faulty construction, classed as "slow burning construction," violating the building code, was ordered
stopped by the inspector on the job, but the work proceeded on orders from Hamilton. When this was called to Hamilton's attention he is
quoted as saying that he "authorized Schumacher to proceed with the
work." When askod if he (Hamilton) had the right to authorize vlo lations of the building code, par
ticularly relating to fire hazards in
the downtown districts, Hamilton is reported a3 having said, "It is none
of your business; I have a right to
do as I please. That Francis Ham
ilton, building commissioner, son of "Dollar Bill" Hamilton, is a law unto himself, is submitted to the board of safety for their considera
tion.
That an apartment on Graceland
avenue, owned by a man by the name of Searcy, was built in viola
tion of the state housing law requiring at least 25 feet space in the back yard, and was permitted to proceed under a. special building permit is a matter of record. This matter was called to Hamilton's attention and the work proceeded and is now practically completed. This is submitted to the board of safety for
their thoughtful and if- possible, intelligent, consideration.
That J. M. Kirkwood, as city elevator inspector at $150 per month, is not permitted to inspect elevators, thereby safeguarding human life, but is required to act as chauffeur to Thad. Gurley, city building inspector, at a salary of $200 per month, might receive thoughtful consider
ation. That city elevators are being
installed every day in Indianapolis
without approval, that there is no inspection of elevators in the ttowniown districts, and that there is no effort to safeguard human life, is pointed out, but will not be recognized until some eight or ten people are killed by falling elevators. It is doubtful that these important matters of interest to taxpayers and of vital interest to the welfare of the community will receive any attention
at this time by the board of safety,
but it Is Indicated that at the proper time the people of Indianapolis will awake to realize the necessity of conducting their own civic affairs.
The uncovering of the plot by
the Fiery Cross, In which it was planned to reduce each and every
Mason in the employ, of the city, hastened the reduction of the fifteen men on last Saturday, it having been originally intended that the reduction should take place on Tuesday of this
week. The plot is led by Fire Chief O'Brien, Chief Rikhoff of the police department and Traffic Captain Mike
Glenn. The trio is backed by the un-American Unity League, which
has had the use of innumerable motorcycle policemen, patrolmen and other members of the police de
partment to solicit funds for the
league. Officers Harry ("Doggie")
Brooks ana Shine have been de
tailed to attend Klan open meetings
anci demonstrations and to report all
members of the police department
that might he seen there so that
these officers might be "spotted" and
discharged on a technicality of some
kind.
Chief Rikhoff also issued orders
Tthat no police officer while off dutv
could leave the city limits without a permit from him. This was one
way, figured the chief, to "get a line
on alleged Klansmen.
All of this is about to change and the proceedings in the board of safety
is tiie beginning oi the end.

address which wa3 received with
much enthusiasm.

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind., July 7. Aiding the county law enforcement agencies by ferreting out stills and procuring evidence against bootleggers, the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan are doing their share to abate liquor law violation in Whitley county.
Acting upon information furnished
him. Sheriff Samuel W. Steel has ac
cepted such co-operation and, with his additional deputies, made a fine
comb- by which he is making his county as dry as Sahara.
Acting with his chief aide, William
Burnworth, and twenty deputies, Sheriff Steel centered an attack upon Tri-Lake resort last Saturday afternoon. Tri-Lake resort is one
of the principal havens for Fort Wayne amusement seekers.
The party swooped down upon the
resort, first stopping at the Ester-
line Inn. Here were found 100 fre
quenters and all were searched, in
cluding the premises. The brush
about the place was upturned and the shrubbery picked over but the raiders failed to find a hiding place
for liquor.
At their second stopping place
however, the sheriff and his crew
met with better success. At Cot
tage No. 9, two quarts of "moon
shine" were found in a suitcase, and
its confessed owner, Mrs. Helen M.
Pettit, was taken into custody.
With Mrs. Pettit, the officers ar
rested Edward T. Stout and his wife
Stella M. Stout, charging them with
VWlations of the liquor law on infor
mation previously obtained against
them. Mrs. Pettit, it is said, is daughter of the couple.
Search Continued The hotel at Staples Landing was searched as was also the old dance hall, now used as a hotel annex. At the annex a quart of illicit liquor was obtained, found in the possession of Frank Place, a cook at the hotel. The aftermath of a previous raid, on information secured by Klansmen, occurred Sunday when Sheriff Steel journeyed to Tri-Lake and there took thnto custody Scott Eamlck, chargfed with the illegal ownership anoperation of a still found
by Sheriffs Steel and Black just
over the borderline in Noble county,
rive weeks ago.
Eamick has been at liberty, trav
eling about Churubusco and the lake resort, since the swearing out cf a warrant by Sheriff Black at the time
of the raid. This warrant, it is alleged, has been in the hands of Town
Marshal Davis of Churubusco, but,
omplaint adds, no real effort has
heen made by the marshal to accomplish Eamick's arrest.
Eamick is in the county jail at Al
bion where he must face charges of
felony in consequence of the discov
ery of the still. In addition, Whitley counter will deal with him for uniaw-
iui possession. An amaavit nas been
sworn out because of the discovery
by a Klansman of his burial of four
one-gallon jugs containing moon
shine" and two quart bottles partly
filled. Eamick, according to reports, is one of the county's principal bootlegger?.
Thecase against Place, that of
negative possession, is pending,
awaiting the decision to prosecute of Prosecutor George O. Compton.
Logan Staples, owner of the hotel bearing his name, and who urged upon the sheriff his co-operation to
clear the resort of its boozef has promised to produce his cook should Compton want him.
Arrest Another It was a fair day's catch at Tri-
Lake Saturday but the fifth arrest,
not counting Eamick, who was taken
into custody the next day, was lo
crown the efforts of the raiding party before their retirement from
the resort.
Just as the raiders were about to return to Columbia City, in drove
Samuel Gigon, under suspicion of bootlegging, and his automobile was
searched. Getting out of his machine, the man was seen to stagger,
Two quarts of liquor were revealed
in the search.
Gigon Is in jail at Columbia City,
facing charges of transporting intox
icating liquor and driving while in
toxicated. His touring car, a Hoi lier, is in custody of the sheriff.
With Gigon is Edward Stout. Both
were unable to furnish bonds of
$1,000 each for their appearance in
court.
The two women are at liberty,
with the Stout car, a sedan, and $200 each in surety bonds signed by their
attorney, B. J. Bloom, up for securl
ty to insure their return to this city
when called upon to appear in court,
The cases against the prisoners
taken into custody Saturday have been set for Friday in Mayor Frank
Meitzler's court.
Tri-Lake, following the excursion by the sheriff and his party, reports
a considerable curtailment in the
liquor supply. The work Is not com Dieted, it is said, but rumors are cur
rent that continued enterprises of
the same sort will soon accomplish
their purpose.
CLEVELAND, O., July 9-At a ceremonial held by Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in Chagrin Valley on last Saturday, a class of almost 1,000 candidates were initiated into the organization as a huge fiery cross threw its bright glow into the sky. The ceremony was begun at 10 o'clock and ended at midnight. A
speaker of note delivered an address immediately preceding the ceremonial which was widely applauded.
It is estimated that more than
iv.uuu lusasmen toon pari in me proceedings which started at about
o'clock in the afternoon. The
Klansmen began arriving at noon
and for hours a steady stream of
automobiles emptied into the valley,
After night had fallen and final
preparations were being made for the ceremonial, a weird scene was presented as mounted guards in the regalia of the Klan darted from
point to point perfecting plans-.
Many of the Klansmen were ac
companied by their wives, who were seated at a distant spot al
though having a xlean view of the
ceremonial, and witnessed the impressive sight from the vantage
point arranged by the "Klansmen.
The Klan is now making great
strides in membership here and the organization is now going forward
with an, added impetus.
(By Staff Correspondent) COLUMBIA CITY. Ind.. Julv 7.
Positive evidence, if nothing previous sufficed to show the Ku Klux Klan was In Wbitley county to re
main, was furnished by the cohorts of the Invisible Empire Friday night in a monster open-air demonstration, the like of which had never before
taken place in this vicinity.
Fifteen hundred Knights of the
Klan gathered one-half mile west of the city on a farm bordering upon two principal cross-roads, rented for
the occasion.
Two thundering detonations an
nounced to the country-side the be-
gming of ceremonies. Then a fiery cross, forty feet in height, was touched off. Thirty minutes later, another cross, forty-five feet tall, was lighted and simultaneous , with this, Klansmen in regalia fired red torches, as many as there were Klansmen. The spectacle was brilliant, awesome, and visible for miles around, to the whole country-side which had gathered near to witness the pyrotechnic display. According to estimates, about 150 neophytes were naturalized. To the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, it was Whitley county's organization meeting.
