symmetrical characters. Are you do
ing your part? The day of the specialist his here. We must have a
more complete conception of our duty toward God and man. Our education must cover a broader scope, not because there is more crookedness, but because our relations are
becoming more intricate and there are no more haphazard ways of earning livings. Greater responsibility rests upon each member of society. These responsibilities will gravitate to the man who can shoulder them. The manner in which you accept them more shows to what extent you are fulfilling the purpose for which God created you. We can not go backward. The only way out is straight forward. "Let's Go." Every American gentile, white, Protestant, lias his duty to perform the richest as well as the poorest. To some, life is a pleasure, to others, suffering, but the best do not live for themselves alone, or self-enjoyment, or even for fame. Their strong, est motive power is usefnl, helpful
service In the Interest ot humanity.
liut there are so lew who are so un
selfishly striving for the good of the
wnoie race that the eirect is scarcely noticeable. Hierocles says that each one of us is a center, circumscribed by many concentric circles. From our selves the first circle extends, comprising parents, wife and children. The next circle comprises relations, then fellow-citizens, and lastly, the whole human race.
Whate'er thy race or speech, thou art the same; Before thy eyes, Duty, a constant flame, Shines always steadfast with unchanging light, Through dark days and -through bright. To do our duty in this world toward God and toward man, consistently and steadfastly, requires the cultivation of all the faculties which
God hath given us. And He has given us everything. Into the cultivation of these faculties come the most questionable elements under smr present methods of teaching. We strive in most of our schools to cultivate that part of the individual
man that will give expression in dollars and cents and very little of that subtle something that marks the bee as the only true co-operator and true home-builder. The first thing a boy thinks of nowadays is how much am I going to get out of this endeavor, not "how much am I going to put into it, or how completely is this going to give expression to my real self." The question of how this came
about Is something for every believer in true American principles and
Christian ideals to ponder and con
sider well. Let us see if there are
enemies of our ideals and see If they, through a concerted effort, are trying to tear down the very things
we wisn to perpetuate, 'l'ney say that onr pnblic schools are sink holes of pollution and nurseries of hell and that nothing is horn of them bnt moral blackleg and reprobate. They have defeated the Smith-Sterling educational bill, that provides for each pnblic school In this dear land of ours shall have nine months out of each year in which to teach
our boys that life Is worth living and the dissemination of such knowledge as well as perpetuate the government of the people by the people. That grand heritage given to us by onr forefathers. By the way, that same government that they say Is no government at all is the one that we as Klansmen swear uncondition
ally, and without mental reservation, to protect and defend until death. Man does not live for himself alone. He must live for others, as
well as for himself. May God, In His infinite mercy, bear with the creed, or people, who, through selfish designs, seek to impose upon an unwilling people an everlasting life of darkness and misery, as has been the lot of the masses under Roman rule throughout the ages. When we, as the only true keepers of the tra
ditions of pure Americanism, strive to perpetuate and commemorate the heroic efforts of our dear American pioneers and sacred ancestors, these common polyglots and fiendish designers of a hell on earth send up a howl that, because we, as Klansmen, stand for pure American principles, for upholding the constitution, defy
ing anyone to meddle further with the public schools. Demanding that we, and our posterity, live under one flag, and that no other than Old Glory; that we make the white whiter, the red redder and the blue bluer; that we cleanse this, our own inheritance, of the stench that has been forced upon us by these defilers of the rights of the masses. Because we are striving to create an environment through which our children may, by the light of true Godly principles, enter into that
princely domain of real human service and find happiness here on earth and a rich reward in that happy land, wherein the souls of those who have espoused and consecrated their lives and efforts to a service and duty consistent with the will of God. Duty without fear, or favor. If church members are going to hell so fast that you can not see them for their dust (Billy Sunday), their neglect to this forward march is the cause of two-thirds of the precipitation of their soul3 to hell. Thirteen years is. the average intellectual
age of Americans fit for military service. This was determined after
1,700,000 army recruits were examined. The average man in the U.
S. A. stops his education at the fifth
grade. According to the army re
ports ana recent surveys bzVi per
cent of the men 21 years of age had
the intelligence of a 13-year-old
boy; 83 per cent -mere above this in intelligence, while only 4 per cent showed superior intelligence. Can the business men of this country solve their financial problems with thirteen-year-old Intelligence? Impossible. Unless a great majority of these young men and women are given long periods of training by institutions that are really interested in
their lives and welfare they will go through life without any chance of doing more than eking out a miserable existence. Why? Because thirteen, or fifteen-year old intelligence and fifth grade education will neither sell goods nor build business snccess in our present complex civ
ilization. The unintelligent man sees only with his eyes, consequently he sees very little. Already thousands of men in this country nre at work upon a new program to fit the future needs of the country. They have caught the vision. Have you! Remember, please, that it takes but a moment to speak a mite of encouragement. Seek the facts
about the new order of education and then I know you will encourage
the exponents of it. Sometimes one
is heard to say "I don't know how
to express my appreciation." Don't
express for the next two or three
years, do it. You usually find time to express your disapprovals, why, then, should you keep silent at this
time when you are needed most?
America Is vour home, my home
and of which I am intensely proud.
t"ne ot which you should be proud,
vnat are we doing to make our
home a greater and better place In
which to live and rear our children?
God has made onr home what It is. All we have done Is "sit tight" and fed upon the fat of the land. We have just about succeeded in draining her dry. How about feeding her a little 1

BURNING OF FIERT CROSS '-'" CAUSE OF MUCH COMMENT THE PLAINSj O., July J. A. flerr cross was burned near here last week and much comment has followed from which it has been rumored that the Ku Klux Klan is growing very strong in this community. It is understood that a publio demonstration will be held here within the next few days.
My dear reader, tonight as the darkness closes in on you and fills every crevice in and about you, remember that just as stealthily as this process goes on, so does this hideous monster of un-Americanism reach out its tentacles of ignorance for the masses and is just as surely closing its clammy claws on the hearts of those who'Would strive for an environment and perpetuation of the Protestant faith, free public schools, free press, free speech, just laws and the pursuit of happiness consistent with the will of God and American ideals.
