Movements come and movements! go as the need of their existence , nrises and the necessity of their continuance ceases. Only those organizations grow and thrive through the multiplying years which have for their ultimate object the glorifying of the Godhead and the magnifying of mankind. The destiny of the human race is God and the influence that lifts man toward his destiny will survive the wrecks of time. The objects and purposes of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan are multitudinous, but when all is done and said they can be summed up in four simple propositions:
(1) It teaches him his " fluty to himself. To live cleanly, to walk uprightly, to speak purely, are fundamental tenets of the Institution Our bodies are the temples in which the soul is tabernacled and as such should be kept a fit habitation for that immortal part of man. (2) It teaches man his duty to his neighbor. Life perpetuates itself as it communicates to other lives. To live that I may bless, to work that T may add to the comfort of the world, to be that I may cherish and lift and elevate--thee are divine ambitions and express in living the divine plan for the salvation of the world.
(3) It teaches man his duty to his country. One this, one language, one Bible, one school, one constitution are the cardinal principles of the Invisible Empire. One flag and that flag the starry banner with its crimson and while and blue, emblematical of sacrifice and purity and constancy,
and called "Old Glory." One lan
guage and that language the Anglo

some of the great objects of the in
stitution. With charity to all religious faiths and recognizing the
right of man to worship his creator according to the dictates of his conscience, nevertheless the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan believe in the faith to redeem and disenthrall the world from superstition, bigotry and sin. While we denounce no religion, nor condemn any man for the faith that is in him, we do seek to unite
all those of the Protestant faith to the end that the great religious principles exemplified by the Protestant church might be the more effectively and fully carried out. The Invisible Empire stands for the proposition that America is' a Christian nation and, although Jew and Gentile alike have an equal right
to abide in peace under our national flag, nevertheless, we maintain that the fundamental Christian ordinances should be upheld. We stand for the Christian Sabbath and the use of the Bible in the schoolroom
as well arrthe church. The Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is a militant organization. In selecting its membership from a partitular class cf people it in nowise reflects upon those who do not belong to that class. It has no purpose to divest any person of his rights as, a citizen because of his particular religious belief or because of his

Man has no deeper and surer im
pression than that the world belongs
to him. It is deepened year by year, too, as he sees the relation he sustains to its increase. No more certainly are the walls, roof and floor
of a house related to the comfort and protection of the family, than are the elements, forces and seasons of nature related to the well-being and
civilization of man.
The meaning of creation is not understood till dust stands erect in a living man. That a great purpose was present from the beginning, directing and controlling there can be no doubt. It presided over the first nebulous mist that floated out to take form of the earth. It measured and weighed the matter and force necessary to form the globe. It determined the elements required to do the work lying through the years before it. It assigned them the laws, specific gravities and
affinities, and appointed beforehand the combination they were capable
of making.
But not till the atoms throbbed
in a human brain and beat in a human heart did the purpose, which
had through the ages run, stand out, defined and justified.
Then it was that the intention un
der the drift of ages spelled itself out in the unity of thought, the freedom of choice, and the capacity of love, potential in the intellect, will
and heart of the first man.
He was the realization of an ideal,
which gave meaning to the long
periods of preparation, as the final expression of the creative process. He was at once the interpreter and the interpretation of all that had
gone before.
He, that is born of woman, is of

has no choice in the matter, there
fore, its life is chosen for it. It is dependent on the pillars of home, father and mother, for the first few years of its life. Its brain, at birth,
is similar to the milk upon which it, feeds, and gradually hardens into a
doughy mass, and its five senses may develop. It no doubt inherited some qualities and characteristics of the
father and mother, but the environment, or surroundings, in which it is to live, will largely determine the
course of its life.
The known life extends from the
cradle to the grave. I have no knowledge but from birth to the grave However, I ' have positive
proof that this life is controlled by environment." The destiny of mantis determined by the quality o his environment; therefore as ft' nation, state or comrattnityifis : dependent

To the Klansmen of the Realm of Indiana, Greetings:
I am indeed glad to avail myself of the calumns of that great patriotic newspaper, The
Fiery Cross, to express to you my congratulations on your achievements in the cause of Amer' icanism on. this the greatest anniversary in American history. Pure, progressive, American principles take a great stride forward in Indiana thisInde
pendence Day and it is very fitting that the Klans of Indiana should have selected July Fourth
for the reception of their official charters and the establishment of their state organization.
Having emerged from a provisional status and become fully operative units of the Invisible Empire, the Klans in this great realm will approach the stupendous task which lies before them with even greater enthusiasm and zeal than in the past. Klancraft in Indiana is now completely organized and the red-blooded American citizens of this realm, rallying beneath the Stars and Stripes and the fiery cross of the Klan, constitute an unconquerable power for the right, which will forge ahead brooking no interference from ma
lingering disloyalists. The Klansmen of Indiana have in the past few months performed a great and noble work. From the great cities of the commonwealth to the remotest hamlet they have carried a message of Americanism, a message of single-hearted loyalty to flag and country. They have pointed the way to right living, right thinking, and the observance of the laws of their state and their nation. They have made the Knights' of the Ku Klux Klan a living, telling, vital force for good in every community and neighborhood. Much important work yet confronts Indiana Klansmen. Work which it is necessary for Americans to perform if they are to safeguard our free institutions for our children and to maintain inviolate the sacred heritage of liberty bequeathed us by our forefathers.
Sinister influences, un-American to the core, menace our free public schools. Stealthy echeraes to undermine and destroy our great American educational system through ecclesiasticism must be thwarted and brought to naught. Church and state must never be permitted lo join hands over the ruins of the little red schoolhouse.
Stand firm, Klansmen; preach, teach and insist upon unqualified loyalty to the flag of your country and the constitution of the United States. The wonderful accomplishments of Indiana Klansmen in the interest of law enforcement has excited universal admiration in every realm of the Invisible Empire. Klansmen have cooperated fully with the properly -constituted officers of the law and aided them in making many towns and villages better, cleaner and sweeter places in which to live. This valuable work in behalf of our homes, our womanhood and our loved ones should continue with unabated vigor. Klansmen must, by their personal lives and actions set an example to those of the alien world. They must obey all laws without demur and with meticulous care. Every Klansman
should hold himself constantly ready to answer the summons of any properly -qualified officer g0 up. On the social side of him
cf the law and aid him in law enforcement. In this manner adequate i C3uUs will bs obtained. They must serve and sacrifice for the right. Your Imperial Wizard is proud of Indiana and its splendid upstanding Klansmen. The wonderful spread cf American principles throughout the state during the past few months has resulted in an increase of membership not paralleled by any other realm in the Invisible Empire. Every resource of the Imperial Headquarters is always at the command of the Klans of Indiana, and the national administration gladly co-operates with them for the progress and advancement f our holy and just cause. H. W. EVANS, Imperial Wizard. Atlanta, Georgia, June 27, 1923.
while in the latter the individual side held sway. The patriotism of Regulus is an example of the social side of self. A prisoner in Carthage, he is permitted to go to Rome to induce hi3 people to make peace with the Carthagenians. He pledged his word to return if he failed. On reaching
Rome, however, instead of seeking to persuade his people to make peace he appealed to them to continue the war. He went back to Carthage and was cruelly put to death by his captors. "Social Greece" How secure is the Greece that flowered in her great men. It was in the two centuries between five hundred (500) and three hundred (300) before Christ, when she emphasized men more than the things they created, that she produced men who have been the teachers of the human race. All cf her art treasures
I and great structures are in ruin, but
me iwo nunareu (zuu) years, which, she deposited in her great men, are immortal. Rome won her victories, wrote her laws, and laid the foundation for her world-wide empire when her people gave social, rather than in
dividual, expression to the force of their lives. A young eaglet is correlated to the sky before it leaves the egg and its relation or association with other birds is not essential to the fulfillment of its life. Monkeys wrap their tails about each other and form a bridge across streams. They have been doing this for thousands of years and have discovered no new method for abridgment of streams. All lower animals come into this world entire and complete with little capacity for learning. Man comes
into being with unlimited capacity for unfoldment of spiritual and mental self, and moves on a plane lower than animals if he is not caught at birth by relation and environment and carried to his proper place in life. Boys and girls perpetually .act. .and react upon the human relations anS environment into which they are born. The success, or failure, of each depends upon the community surroundings through which they
grow to manhood and womanhood.
Therefore, unless we, as men and women who are accountable for our
every act, should use all agencies at our-command, and so conduct ourselves with social expression, rather than individual expression, resulting in an agreeable and happy en
vironment, our stv as well as our
neighbors' .cuidren's 8ins will rest

so individually narrow as to remain in darkness when light could bring them into the Promised Land of real human service by merely spending ; the time otherwise wasted gossiping and slandering their fellowman, whom they possibly do not know ex- . cept by hearsay, in seeking the Godgiven truth about the great self. Ignorance and selfishness are the
ment all but for the purpose of turn-j two-greatest causes of our present ing soil, sunshine and rain into ap- I unhappiness. We must give some pies. ! hours to concentrated, persistent
Man has a dual nature by virtue of which he is social and individual. When the environment is such as to give greater expression to the development of the individual side of man the fortunes of man go down. "Individual" On the individual side of himself man will take up with the present, with that which allures the senses, sacrifice the higher ideals of life for
the mighty dollar, put his foot upon his fellowman's neck, to reach the end of his selfishness, slanders and defames those who are striving for the good of the race. As evidence
of the individual development, Babylon serves as a good example, she had no rivals among the nations of the ancient times. She was a vast and rich empire, until her people
began to value the things men made more than they valued the living man. When she quit striving for a higher civilization and began using her greatness in revelry and sensual enjoyment, she became stupid and depraved. Her heart throbs, whatever they were, got explained in no
history. Among none of her luxuriant inhabitants did she develop a man to commit the keeping of her secrets. "Social" When the environment is such as to give greater expression to the so
cial side of man, the fortunes of men
self, man realizes that the trend of
civilization is forward, is therefore in harmony with it. He is willing to sacrifice his life, if necessary, for the good of the whole race. He believes in the immutable laws of retaliation and increasing return, he renders more service and better
service" than he is paid for. He does
not believe in following the law of least resistance.
The only difference between
George Washington and Benedict Ar
no!d was that in the former the social side of the man was dominant,
i thought. We must study ourselves
and our weaknesses, j No man gets over a fence by wishI ing himself over. He must climb, j Xo man gets out of the rut of dull, i tiresome, monotonous life by merely
wishing himself out of the rut. He must climb. A new civilization Is being born. Customs, creeds and prccedoiits are passing; vision, faith and service are tnking their place. The dross oi selfishness is being consumed. Thonght is being liberated and truth is rising, full orbed, before an astonished people. "The lobster is the only animal that travels backward to go forward. He is of the old school." The best duty is done in secret and without sight of man. There it does its duly devotedly and nobly. It does not follow the routine of the worldly wise morality. It does not advertise itself but assumes a larger creed and loftier code, which, to be subject to and obfyed by, Is to consider every human life and every human action
in the light of eternal obligation to the race. Our evil, or careless actions, Incur debts every day that hu
manity suffers that we, sooner or
later, must discharge. God works mysteriously. The
