WOMAN SPEAKER IN TALK AT COLUMBUS
NOBLESVILLE KLAN TO HAVE 'BIG DOINGS'
COLUMBUS. Ind., June 25. Women of the community were urged to awaken to the needs of the country, and to stir themselves In the interests of Americanism, in a speech by an Indianapolis woman last Tuesday night, at Commercial park. It is estimated that over 1,000 persons, including many women, heardthe ad
dress. Although the address was of primary interest to women, many men also attended the speaking. As she made her points during the address round after round of applause broke from the audience and persons seated in automobiles along the curbing voiced their approval by tooting auto horns. Among other things, she declared that many of the native Americans today feel that they are too good to go to the polls to vote and that in
stead, when election time comes around, they sit at home, and do not take a part in selecting the officials
of their community. As a result of this indifference, foreigners and oth
ers who have a systematic method of
controlling votes have almost crowded the native Americans out of public office and taken the reins of government in their own hands.

DELPHOS, Ohio, June 27. It has been announced here that there will be a sermon on the Ku Klux Klan delivered at the Christian church in this city on the evening of July 1. The speaker will open his address at seven-fifteen.
(Special to Fiery Cross) NOBLESVILLE, Ind., June 25. On next Saturday night there will be
held in this city one of the most
unique as well as one of the largest
Klan parades and ceremonials ever held in this part of the state. It is
planned to have more than one hundred mounted Klansmen In the
parade, which will pass through the downtown streets and disband at the horse show grounds, where the initiation of a large class of candidates will take place. The famous Muncie Klan band will have a place in the procession, along with other bands which will furnish music for the occasion. The ceremonial at the horse show
grounds will be unique, inasmuch as
the entire park is within the city
ITmlts. but is fenced in and is of Buch
size that the obligations may be given the candidates within full view of spectators but out of hearing. The spectators will be able to view the uroceedings from four different
streets.
Preparations have been made by
the Klan, which has rented the park for the affair, to aid local police in takine care of traffic. There will be
no cars parked -within the park and
an unobstructed view of all that passes in the park may be had by the thousands who will attend the
demonstration.

The result of their investigations will undoubtedly be made public through the usual newspaper channels. Cops Can't Play No More Chief Rikhoff himself is evidently quite active and busy these hot days, recently exerting himself to the extent of issuing an order that cops when not on duty are, however, no longer
free American citizens, but must secure permission from the chief to leave the city, even for a few hours. Just what business it is of his what police officers do when not on duty, so long as they are orderly, 100 per
cent American citizens, Is not evident, but the fact that it has been intimated that they have been attending Klan parades Is sifrnificant. Far be it from such that anyone should criticise such an honorable, efficient, thoroughly American chief of police in activities of such noble character, evidencing such sacredness of purpose, and such interest in the welfare of the city of Indianapolis. Sandusky Clergyman Declares Public Schools as Big Failure as Protestant Churches

FOSTORIA, O., June 23. Declaring that the public school is a failure, Rev. G. Strack, of Sandusky,
Ohio, who delivered the chief address
at the commencement exercises of
the local Catholic schools here last
week, held up the Catholic parochial
school as the acme of education for the children of America.
Rev. Strack said that the public
school is not immoral, but unmoral
and fails for the same reason that the Protestant churches ""fail, inasmuch as they separate religion and
morality. He said that Catholics who
fail to send their children to Catholic
high schools "stab a dagger in the back of the Catholic church."
"To keep the catechism out of edu
cation," said Rev. Strack, "is equiva
lent to having no education." Recog
nition of Catholic schools by the
state, he said, was unimportant.
"Catholic School Is Best" In urging the members of the grad
uating classes to enter a Catholic high school, Rev. Strack stated the
Catholic high school "is the peer in every respect of any high school in
the state."
We must recognize God as the
author of all learning and must use learning to know God better. Those who are truly wise are recognizing
the lack of God in religion," the speaker said, "and are beginning to
act accordingly."
"Isn't It foolish to expect a plum
where there is no plum tree?" said Rev. Strack. "And does not the sad history of the public school bear out this statement?"
The church in which the exercises
were held was well filled and the altar was profusely decorated with flowers for the occasion. Rev. A. A.
Weber, a local priest, distributed the diplomas. Rev. Strack was formerly priest at the local church.

Four hundred more members were added to the ever-growing roster of Buckeye Klan No, 8, knights of the Ku Klux Klan, at the outdoor Klonvocation held at Spring Lake park, Just southeast of here last night. The ceremony was more op'en to the public than any previous one that the local organization has held, and great interest was shown by the
thousands of spectators who pressed close to the outer line of guards to "take it in."

The traffic jam, which more or less marred the last gathering, was avoided this time through the aid of deputies from the office of Sheriff Frank Holycross. A forty-acre field was used to systematically park the machines across the roadway from the park where the ceremony was held.

largest Klan meeting ever held in this vicinity took place here Wednesday night when" a large class of can
didates were initiated into the realm
of the Invisible Empire. A class of about one hundred and fifty candidates received the initiatory degree
at the huge, open-air meeting, ac
cording to Klansmen of this city. The gathering was held on the Em
erson farm northwest of the city and Klansmen from here, Terre Haute, Rossville, Hoopeston, Paris
and Watseka attended the cere
monies in large delegations. The
meeting was no secret and Klansmen from many nearby Indiana and Illinois cities also attended. The meeting was held in a valley, which is surrounded by hills, and hundreds of people, attracted by the glare from the fiery cross, gathered as close as possible.

mated that between 12,000 and 18,000
persons gathered at he Wellston Driving Park to witness a big ceremonial held by the organization.
On the day of the meeting persons
began arriving early in the morning,
a big number coming from Ken
tucky. Scores of Kentucky automo
bile tags were seen on the machines
that jammed every bit of parking space on the grounds and overflowed
into the surrounding roadways.
The evening exercises were
opened with the singing of "America," after which a speaker of national reputation addressed the big
crowd. He was repeatedly interrupted with loud applause. After the address it took almost two hours
for the machines to get out of the park owing to the congestion. Rain fell at Intervals during the day and
it is believed that this fact held
down the crowd considerably.
