TBXAS GAMBLERS GET

JOLT FROM THE KLAN

Ihii. Another Victory Scored in -Campaign to Clean Up ..,,,., Lone Star State .M.l'lM..:' (fcperhil Jo Fiery Cross) V.. IASO, Tex., May 22. The Ku Klux Khin, which has made such an enviable record in the preserving of law nnd order in Texas, has scored anrtther victory in its campaign to keep 111 e state clean. The anti-gambling law has been notoriously violated and all the attendant evils, such as playing with funds belonging to another and run

ning up of debts, have brought about

a serious condition. - Determined to stop the practice, the Klan set a number of spotters on the trail of the guilty persons. After a good bit of work the Klan found sufficient evidence to proceed and warrants were sworn out for a raid, and a soft drink saloon, used as a headquarters by the gamblers, was raided. Thirty-five men were taken into custody. Bets Freely Made The information received indicates that bets had been made, freely on the races in Maryland, Kentucky and New York. It Is expected that convictions will be numerous, and the grip of the gamblers has been dealt a serious blow. This victory for the Klan has added a little more, if it be possible, to the fine opinion in regard to it held by the law-abiding people of the state.

IN SHOW OF HATE (Continued from Page 1, Column 2) the Klan'a part in the affair had been carried out without violating the law and that the police department-could find no fault with the activities of the Klan. Indicative of the feeling aroused in the breasts of 100 per cent Americans, on account of the action ot the hoodlums, at a ceremony on the. following Monday night a large number of candidates were initiated into the organization. The ceremony was held outside of Warren and at the point where it took place the roadsides were parked with automobiles for almost a half-mile. Patriotic Citizens Awake Despite the fact that quite a number of the opposition witnessed the ceremony from a distance, no- attempt was made to interfere with the proceedings. The ceremonial was one of the biggest ever held in this vicinity and will, no donbt, be followed by many more of even a greater magnitude. It is- evident that the patriotic citizens of this place are now fully aware of tire worth of the Ku Klux Klan.

KLAN BURIAL HELD IN BUCYRUS, OHIO BUCYRUS, Ohio, May 22. What is thought to be the first funeral in Ohio at which the Ku Klux Klan was officially present, was held here last week when Milo R. Haines, former Boy- Scout Commissioner, who died very suddenly, was laid to rest. The funeral was attended by an unusually large number of persons and while it is believed that the larger number of them were Klansmen, only those men acting as pallbearers wore the regalia of the order. The six uniformed Klansmen stood at attention outside the residence as the services were held and at the conclusion of which' they entered tile house and bore the casket to the waiting hearse. They accompanied the cortege to the Oakwood cemetery and lowered the coffin into the grave.

Marsuaied together are citizen a of Columbuia city . and, surrounding towns who demand a strict enforcement of the laws. Bootleggers are not wanted, and against these community lice the forces of the organization have been leveled. Moonshiners have been their particular prey. The sheriff, police and the county prosecutor ' have been given aid of the kind needed to throttle the liquor peddlers. Recently the Columbia City Klan retained attorneys to assist Prosecutor George O. Compton in the trial of three "hip pocket" vendors and the three penal farm sentences resulting kept Mr. Compton's record for convictions since the first of the year at 100 per cent. - Klan Activities Broaden With the broadening of the Klan's activities against 'leggers to this extent, there would seem nothing left to be done of the precedent-making character, but even this action was not the ultimate. Last week, they burrowed into sales of liquor at Churubusco and found the source of the wet supply coming from Green township, Noble county. Sheriff Sam W. Steel of Whitley county was given the information. He got in touch with Sheriff Charles Black, Noble county, and together they visited the Green township farm. No one wasjiome, but a search was made and a mammoth still, two barrels of maih, bottles, corks and other paraphernalia of a "moonshiner's" outfit were uncovered. A

MIAMI CEREMONIAL DRAWS BIG CROWD

; MIAMI, Fla., May 21. Everything that "could turn a wheel" was parked on the causeway here last Tuesday night when the Ku Klux Klan held a big outdoor ceremonial on Palm Island, at which approximately two hundred members were initiated. So

great was the congestion of cars that it took two hours to get the big audience back to the city. Preceding the ceremony a parade by the Klansmen was held in the city and was viewed by many thousands of people. The ceremony was one of the largest ever held here. Uniformed Klansmen assisted the Miami and Miami Beach police in controlling traffic on the causeway.

CITIZENS OF MURRAY CITY, 0., VIEW CROSS

MURRAY CITY, O., May 22. Following the burning of a big fiery cross on the water works hill, one week ago, there is being "noised" about that this place is to soon witness a demonstration by the Ku Klux Klan. The cross was the third to be burned near here. It was a huge affair and brilliantly lighted up the sky for miles around. The burning of the cross was witnessed by hundreds of persons.

VALPARAISO SCENE OF HUGE GATHERING (Continued from Page 1, Column 1)

and beyond for one hundred rods, were lined the concession stands and the barbecue. The mass of humanity surged incessantly about these and upon the broad midway. Here was the get-together stamping ground, where old acquaintances met, old friends, long lost sight of, again thrown together, fraternalized, each one now a Knight of the Ku Klux Klan. The Klan .crowded the streets throughout the day but besieged the city in the evening. The carnival spirit prevailed. The city was turned over to the Klan for the occasion, whole-heartedly and without reserva. Rnhna

there were aplenty, but identities

were nnconcealed. The Klan circus moved on with the clock. It ended, as all good things have to do. Those " Journeying homeward were tired, but happy. It was a frolic de luxe, and avarr-
