Ladoga, Ind., May 5. The first public meeting on Americanism ever held here was held Wednesday night when the Rev. Zimmerman, of Waynetown, addressed an audience of local citizens at the opera house on "American Principles." Due to
the fact that the meeting was not
well advertised, the crowd present was not large, but it remained at
tentive throughout the speech and was well disposed toward the speaker. The body of the Rev. Zimmerman's speech was on the topic of "White Supremacy." In developing his topic, he traced the United States government from the time that the pilgrims
were driven out of Europe by persecution, down to the present time. The entire talk was clean-cut, and clearly delivered. The speaker was introduced by a Waynetown man, who was, however, known to a num
ber of the men in the audience. It is understood that the work of organizing a Klan here is going forward rapidly under the direction of the Crawfordsville Kleagle.

5,000 PARADE IN SPRINGFIELD (Continued from Page 1, Column 6) by the flash of an aerial bomb or the wierd light of colored fire. An Impressive Sight The coming of the Klansmen and
J the spectators to the farm was an
impressive sight. For more than two hours autos passed a given point on the Urbana pike near the farm. Some
turned into the gate and bumped up
the rough lane to the hilltop and others had to be content with stopping on the road. Guarding the entrance to the conclave were the Klan guards, garbed
in the robes of the order, and every man who passed by them was questioned closely. No one was admitted within the first lines except a number of women, some of whom were members of the Kamelia. These were
allowed to walk a few hundred feet
up the slight lower slope of the ridge in order that they might have a better view of the fireworks which followed the initiation. The first Klan machine left Springfield at S o'clock promptly. At 10:15 the last was within fhe gates and the ceremonies had started.

From the hilltop came faint snatches of band music and the echoing words of the speakers who attended tne initiation. To the waiting crowd it was like looking upon some wierdly mysterious happening of
years ago. A perfect moon made
darker the shadows cast by the wood which masked the hill. There were sounds coming from the hilltop, faint
and tantalizing to the hundreds of onlookers. Then a star shell burst, but its momentary light gave but slight idea of the host upon the hill. The clear voices of two bugles answered each other from points far apart. Then came more silence, and the hilltop seemed dead. Colors Are Cheered Suddenly there was a long hiss and the colors of the American flag
dropped from an aerial bomb, greeted
by the cheers and intaking breath of the watching thousands. The Klan display of fireworks was on. A giant fiery cross blazed out, flanked by two smaller ones. From the distance the huge cr.oss seemed the symbol of Constantine repeated, for the lower part went out, making
j the upper portion seem to hang above the ground. Red fire flamed to form I a fourth cross, and a set piece which I had caused much speculation among
the crowd was revealed in Letters of fire as K. K. K. Then the Klan machines streamed down from the hilltop, and the largest and mott impressive conclave ever held was completed.
A paragraph appearing in last
week's issue of The Fiery Cross, attributed to Fred B.
Johnson, chief of staff for Em
peror Simmons, that the objec
tions to the formation of
women's organization, known as the Kamelia, were withdrawn in the recent settlement, and that this women's organization would be given the
hearty support of the Klan, is emphatically denied by Klan
headquarters at Atlanta, under
date of May 4th.
The Klan does not officially! recognize the Kamelia, and no Klansman acting as such may aid in its promotion. All Klansmen may, however, as individuals, interest themselves in any organization not contrary to
the Klan principles is pointed out at this time, and the Ka
melia is not the Women's Auxiliary of the Knights of the Ku
Klux Klan, as might be indicated by recent statements. Hollins Randolph, Arthur Pow
ell and Ben Sullivan, attorneys
representing both sides in the recent disagreement at Atlanta,
announce that the Johnson statement was not correct, and
unauthorized, and that Johnson
took no part in the negotiations toward settlement, and has no
official connection with the

Seymour, Ind., May 5. On April
28 the Ku Klux Klan paraded in this city before one of the largest crowds ever assembled here to watch a
parade. . The sidewalks along the line of march were jammed and the police department was taxed to its
utmost to regulate traffic hours before the procession moved. There
were approximately 100 men in full
regalia in the line. Automobiles from
all parts of the county began pouring
into Seymour as early as 6 o clock
Following the parade Rev. G. S
West delivered a lecture in the audi
torium of the school house, which
was packed to the doors and many-
were turned away. itev. west, wno came here from Brazil to deliver his talk, began speaking at 9:15 and
poke for more than three hours,
holding his audience until the last
word.
Public Schools in Peril Denunciation of elements which he
said are held by the Klan to be pernicious influences, was made by the
speaker. He declared that the state, the Protestant churches, the public
schools and the homes of America
are in peril because of these influences. He went back into history, and briefly traced from 1601 the ef
forts of English people who sought
place for freedom of worship,
thought and speech, who went from
England to Holland and from there
sent the hundred colonists to the
new world in America, who landed at
Plymouth Rock, and who later constituted a prominent part of the thirteen colonies who fought and gained independence from the English yoke.
He referred to the type of men who wrote and signed the constitution,
and declared it was written and
signed by God-fearing men whose be
liefs were based on the teachings of the Bible.
America, he said, has been known
as tne melting pot, ana tne
"scum" in the melting pot has risen
to the surface, and the Klan has set itself the task of seeing that that "scum" is removed from the crucible, and is cast out.
Rockport, Ind., May 7. Increased
attendance in the Protestant churches here is today being credited
to the activities of the Ku Klux Klan,
which, it Is understood, is becoming strong in this county where, it is said, there is now a membership of approximately five hundred. A huge
fiery cross was burned recently near
Chrisney, a small town near Rock
port, and many hundreds of people
turned out to watch the affair. Alleged Bootleggers Raided A number of bootlegging joints have been raided in Rockport and it is generally credited here that these raids were the result of the Klan's activities. The trials cf the alleged bootleggers will probably come up during this next week. The Presbyterian, Baptist and United Brethren churches have each
received donations within the past two weeks, the money having been donated by .the Klan.

(Special to The Fiery Cross) Portland, Me., May 2. Rev. Judson P. Marvin, pastor of the Church of the Messiah, Universalist, has come to the defense'of the Ku Klux Klan. He declared that the Klan is passing through the same fight as that which confronted Masonry when it first felt the weight of Catholic disapproval. He expressed his 'regret that the Klan had been criticised by a few "narrow-minded protestant ministers who were ignorant of its aims and ideals." "To my mind that Klan is performing a great work for Protestantism
because it instills love for the protestant faith and of the country," he said. "Thanks to the. founding of the order. Protestantism has been aroused from its deep slumber in time and within the short space of three; years the fraternity has attained a membership of almost 4,000,000, with many on a waiting list." The fight on the Klan is fast losing ground here and non-members are becoming more and more alive to what the Klan really stands for.
Slanderous attacks are being taken with more than a pinch of the proverbial salt, and the end of any real Catholic influence in politics is believed at hand as the Protestants are becoming aware of the menace and the proper means of defeating it.

huge semicircle a hundred feet in diameter was formed around a cross. As the one hundred and fifty candidates marched single file into the center of the ring of masked Klansmen, the flames of the cross sprang forty feet into the air, making the entire scene as light as day, though far more ghust-like. The initiatory degree was put on by a select degree team from North Terre Haute. Following the work, a number of talks were made by Klansmen, followed bv

William S. Tish, a building contractor, is mayor here. He is now in his second term in office. Mayor Tish was elected on an independent workingman's ticket, and gained phenomenal majorities both times. The
correspondent can vouch for his honesty and integrity in office, for he has personally known him for many years. In Coshocton the laws are en forced! -And to say that of the mayor of a small city stamps him as a niun of courage and principles. Klan Growing Daily
The Klan is already in Coshocton.
It is growing daily. Only recently there were-eirculated here form letters outling the principles of the order and informing those interested that further information could be obtained by addressing P. O. Box 356.
This communication was signed
by "A Coshocton Klansman," and in
it the following statement stood out: "A Klansman, even though he be
humble in the affairs of the world, is a better citizen than any man who is not a Klansman, regardless of his high state." An elaboration of the principles enumerated in the "Non Silba Sed Anthar' cf-eed filled the open letter. Some residents of this city have from time to time received anonymous letter signed with the triple
"K" purporting to be from the Klan, and directing the persons addressed
to do this or not do that. In this regard the writer declares "the Klan as an organization, nor the members of it as individuals, does not write anonymous letters to citlceus of this city or any other city. There is a standing offer of $1,000. The fact that the citizens who received these letters have never been harmed in any way is further proof that these letters were written by some unscrupulous persons to dis
credit the Klan."
No estimate was placed upon the crowd of Klansmen present, nor upon the hundreds who lined the roads watching the initiation. Large delegations of Klansmen were present from this county, Brazil, Terre Haute, Clay City, Crawfordsville and North Terre Haute.
Monticello, Ind., May 5. Last Wednesday night the Ku Klux Klan paraded the streets of Monticello before one of the largest crowds that ever assembled in this city.- It was estimated that 2,500 machines were parked along the curbs. Approximately 200 robed Klansmen took part
in the parade which was lead by men carrying the American flag. The parade followed immediately after a band concert which was preceded by a speech by Rev. William M. Blair, who spoke from the bandstand.
Many shouts of enthusiasm met the marchers as they wended their way along the line of march. Not one untoward incident marked the
evening despite tne tranic jam. Visitors from all the surrounding towns and countryside motored to Monticello to witness the parade.

He showed that the nation was born 1 in prayer; that it appealed to God to help them develop a country where they might worship Him according to the dictates of their con

canized America. He next ably pointed out how all the above was
attacked by foreign elements from
within. Many Get Cold Feet
