LYONS BETRAYS

EAN OATH (Continued from Page 1, Column 6) man Catholic In tills country denounce the American Protestants in this country and begin a series of political and hate meetings. $20,000 Offered and Challenge to Take It .. The Knights of the Ku Klux Klan will pay to "Mad Pat" ODonnell, the two-by-four, pussy-footer from Delphi, $10,000 and Lawrence Lyons an additional $10,000 if they will prove one single instance where by act. in alnuatlon, inuendo, suggestion, inference, intimation, sign or gesture, the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan have been connected with, or in any way identified with any activity un-Amer-icah, un-Christtan, un-patriotic or in any way antagonistic to' established orderly government. "Mad Pat" O'Donnell and Law rence Lyons are challenged to either prove their infamous and unfounded Statements and their vitlear rleniinriation of the great, white people of this country, the most patriotic and most sublime lineage of all times, or confess they are either brazen-faced Ignoramuses, falsifiers and malicious bearers of false witness. "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-bv four, pussy-footer from Delphi, says and Lyons, by his act agrees, that he does not believe in secrecy. That is perhaps true. He possibly does not, and in this one particular single thing he displays unpardonable igno rance. So conspicuous is his lack of knowledge, not of the Klan but the Christian teachings of the Holy Bible, the rule and guide of 80 per oent. of the American people. The Holy Bible being the rule and guide of 80 per cent, of the population becomes automatically - the dominant moral code of the nation, and to the mall group of derelict's, misfits, atheists, infidels, agnostics, and other forms of disbelievers and misbelievers, and those allied with alien-faith, It can not, and will not he suppressed by the Unity League in its effort to intimidate, dominate and control American civic, political and octal life. "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-four pussy-footer from Delphi (and Lyons agrees), sober and seeing no toadies, vented his whole Impassioned hatred at secrecy, saying it Is un-Christian and should not be tolerated. Therefore, over the cloak of Uic IHiu anl '.whin;! a jmoke screen of silly remarks, characteristlce of a country town boy who breaks into the lime light, without logic, without reason, without argument and without appeal, he denounces the teachings of the Holy Bible. "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-four, pussy-footer, and Lyons, come from towns located in the central part of the State of Indiana. Listed In the population of the state, and for the information of those who never heard of the places, they are populated largely by the finest people in America. Over 60 per cent, of the total male population of Delphi and Brook are members of the Klan. About 30 per cent, of those remain-lng-outside are over due for membership. All of them are very much embarrassed to think that Delphi is the home town of "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, and Brook the home of Lyons. Answer to Secrecy Charge "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-four pussy-footer from Delphi, and Lyons, do not believe in secrecy. Psalms 23:14 says: "The secrecy of the Lord is with them that fear him." "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-tour pussy-footer from Delphi, and Lyons, do not believe in secrecy. Psalms 27:5 says: "In the secrecy of Ills tabernacle He is hiding me." David believed in secrecy. They do not believe in secrecy. Proberbs 32:12 says: "His secret Is with the righteous." Solomon believed in secrecy. They do not believe in secrecy. Daniel 2:19 says: "Then was the secret revealed to Daniel In a vision." Daniel believed in secrecy. They say that In secrecy there is crime.' First Samuel 19:2 says: "Abide in a secret place, hide thyself." This is the advice Jonathan gave to David. Both Jonathan and David believed in secrecy. "Mad Pat" O'Donnell. the two-by-four pussy-footer from Delphi, and Lyons, says In secrecy Is crime. Matthew 6:4:5 says: "When thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what they right hand doeth, that thine alms may be In secret; nd thy Father, which seeth In secret himself, shall reward thee openly." Matthew believed in secrecy. They say that In secrecy there Is crime, but Matthew 6:( says: "When thou prayest, enter Into they closet and pray to thy Father In secret." Again Matthew believed In ecrecy. They say that he dos not believe fo secrecy, yet John 7:1 ayi: "Ht wat not into the feast openly, but

as It were in .secret." John believed t secrecy. -Mad Pat" O'Donnell and Lyons do not believe In secrecy. John 7:12 says: "He deceived the people."

Evidently "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-four pussyfooter from Delphi, is deceiving the people, and holding up a false doctrine, a false creed, a loreign sentiment, a foreign in fluence, an alien desire, alien pressure, alien order, and the influence of a "wop" on a foreign shore Is seeking to contaminate the Holy Doctrine of a free people seeking to destroy fundamental ideals of a free government; seeking to besmlreh under filth and religious intolerance our virginal rights, and the guarantee that we shall worship by ordinance irrevocable, according to the dictation of our own conscience and our own hearts. Therefore, verily, let us read again John 7:12 and apply it to "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, for "he deceiveth the people." They do not believe in secrecy. Joshua 2:1 says: "Joshua sent out two men to spy in secret. They made a secret covenant with Rah ad and accomplished this work through secret." Joshua believed in secrecy. They say they do not believe In secrecy. John 1 8:38 says: "In Jerusalem was a disciple but for the fear of the Jews he worked in se cret." "Mad Pat" O'Donnell and Lyons. tne Judas Iscariot, ungrateful for the mantle of protection, ungrateful for the unfurled colors of Old Glory that protect Roman Catholics, American Protestants, American Gentiles, Jews, wnite man, mongolian, and mongrel, unmindful of the free rights of all the people under the flag, impas sioned and spurred on by a secret power, drunk with the delights of cheap glory and political preferment in Indiana, goes about this country attempting to destroy our constitutional rights. ' Let "Mad Pat" O'Donfrom Delphi, or Lyons, of Brook, answer these questions: If they were to succeed in destroy ing the rights of the protestant people of America, are they not aware that they would still be Protestants? Do they think they could make them Catholics by merely using the force of the Roman Catholic organization and Republican Party of In diana or whatever source he may be using on weak-kneed, supine, Lew Shank to get Tomlinson Hall for the purpose of a Hate Meeting and let a public servant employed by the city thrust the poisoned dagger of intolerant religious hatred into the back of the neoDie who. hnv meat and bread? HOW PnniPtt tlio Mnnaii 4.nJ X'l Tl " "n,vr Does It Go? Who is financing the American Unity League? and whv. Who is financing "Mad Pat" O'Don nell, the two-by-four Dussvfootor from Delphi? (Send the list of dona tions to the Fiery Cross. We will be glad to print them free.) We Ask Pat O'Donnell Is there any secrecy about the source of your finance? Who does Lawrence Lyons represent. "Pat" O Donnell or Hoosier Republicans of Indiana? Are you ashamed of the source of the money that carries on your campaign of hate? How do you get the list of names you print as being Klansmen in your intolerant' sheet called "Tolerance"? Do you hire criminals to steal these names under cover of darkness, by trespassing, like sneak thieves? Are they Klansmen? The people whose names they print? If they are, how did you get the names? Steal' them? Thieves Employed and Gnnmen Used. Do they employ gunmen to break in like the alleged representative of "Tolerance" who broke in at Logansport and took the list of names at the point of a gun, and were later printed- in your paper? Is this your idea of Americanism? Is this your idea of patriotism? I this the Roman Catholic and Republican viewpoint of religious toleration? Is this the Roman Catholic and Republican method of fighting the Protestant people? If the Roman Catholic people are not fighting Protestant people of America, whom do you represent? Are you associated with criminals? Is All This Approved t Is your method of getting names, frame-up, robbery, burglary and trespass American lawful and approved by Roman Catholicism ?- Do you get your list of names from a traitor who would come into the Klan as your representative, taking a solemn oath before his God (or rather your God. wrtainly not our God) that he will maintain secrecy, then sell his perjured soul to you for a paltry pittance of a few dollars and give you a list of names alleged to be Klansmen? Is that your Idea of religious tolerance? Your idea of honor? Your Idea of. law enforcement? Then, if you do not get the list of same of alleged Klansmea by burglary, larceny, trespass, treachery.1

Do you know that a name of i man you published recently as being a Klansman in a middle western city, who was the owner of a fish market, and whom the priest In that community called by phone and told him they were going to boycott him, that this same man has, enjoyed an increase of more than forty per cent in his business as a result of support received from Klansmen? Do you know thapiinety per cent of the Klansmen refuse to believe you represent Roman Catholic thought In this country, and refuse to believe that you represent the de cent Roman. Catholic population in this country, or that they are party to your wild, silly, rantings? Lyons and O'Donnell do you know that you are humiliating your home towns, Delphi and Brook, and are bringing ridicule and criticism upon your relation and friends, stirring up the madest antagonism in the hearts of your people for the Prot estant people, who harbor nothing out tne broadest and most genuine tolerance for the Roman Catholic people? We are only -worshiping, which is our right, guaranteed us under the constitution and vouchsafed to us by the same men who guaranteed its use, who vouchsafed us the right to worship our God according to the teachings of our beloved and pure Protestant mothers. A question From the Soul of Man to O'Donnell and Lyons. Are yon willing to say that the writer, a Protestant, was taught by a bigot, a pagan, an infidel, and a criminal, when my Mother, who now rests In peace, taught me that through the faith of our Father, by the teachings of the Holy Bible, by upright living, by honoring America, by fealty to the American government, by patriotism to my country, and by granting yon the right to worshin God according to yew conscience, I wonld some day be received In that celestial palace in the dim future. where all of ns hope to rest seme day! Because he worships as she taught iiira to worship? Just what are you trying to tell llooslers and the American people? Just what is the purpose of your hate campaign and damnable conspiracy to rend Indiana from bonndnry to boundary. Do yon believe In the Constitution of the United States? If there Is a reason for your conduct against the Knights of the Ku KInx Klan, does it not also seem that there should be formed in America an organization to fight the Knights of Columbus I Does It not also follow that there should be still another organization formed in America to fight the Jewish B'nai B'rith? Organization of Klan Is Lawful "Mad "Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-four pussy-footer from Delphi, says that the Klan is an unlawful organzation. The official oath says: "I most solemnly promise and swear that I will always, at all times, and In all places, help , aid ana asslst, the duly constituted officers of the law in the proper performance of their legal duties.". Every Klansman takes this oath. Is that unlawful? Are you opposed, and are the people you represent opposed to the co-operation of a citizen with an officer of the law? "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-four pussy-footer from Delphi, and Lyons, the betrayer, says it Is unAmerican; that the Klan is an unpatriotic organization. The official bath says: ul most solemnly assert and affirm that to the government of the 'United States of America and any state thereof of which I may become a resident, I saeredly swear an unqualified allegiance above any other and every other kind of gov. eminent In the whole world. .1 here " w pirage my ute ana my property, my vote, my sacred honor to upholding. The official ritual says: "Sirs, the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, as a great, benevo lent, patriotic, fraternal order," does not discriminate against a man on account of his religion or political creed when the same does not con flict with or antagonize the sacred rights and privileges guaranteed by our civil government." - - jo -iaaa rat" outmaell and Lawrence Lyons want the Xnlghia or tne Ku Klux Klan to change its ritual so it will take in those who de sire to destroy American govern raent? - Do they want any organization set up m America, like, possibly, the one they represent which holds allegiance i to a foreign power above and superi or to allegiance for and to the igovernment of the United States? "Mad Pat" O'Donnell says the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan is an intolerant organization. Let s again consult the record. The offi cial ritual says, and to Lawrence Ly ons we ay: "To avoid any mis understanding and as evidence that we do not seek to impose unJusUy the requirements of this order upon anyone who can not, on account of his religious or political scrnples, fully meet our requirementaand faithfully practice our principles, and as proof that we respect all henest men in their sacred tenvle. If they do not understand it, then why "air" their ; ignorance to Hoosier s and the American, people? Why do tlwy not consult the record and produce the facts? Again, they are challenged to prove that the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan are antagonistic to the Soman Catholic religion. If they will prove this and sustaift their proof by the record and intelligent facts we will present them with $10,000 so that they can at least present a respectable appearance while they conduct their hate campaign. Where Goes the Ten .Dollars ? Here Is the Answer ! . s " "Mad Pat" OUonnell, seems to go into convulsions over the idea that a donation of $10.00 is given cheerfully by each native-born, white Protestant, Gentile who enlist in the cause of liberty, justice, righteousness, patriotism and the internal defense of America. If the racist! meets the approval of "Mad Pat" O'Donnell and his co horts in Italy, by what process of reasoning and by what sense of justice does "Mad Pat, the two-by-four pussy-footer from Delphi, presume to aay to the American people that the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, dedicated to God, to a Holy Patriotism, and to observing and practicing the spirit and text of the Cons.titution, become offensive in this country? .By what mental gymnastics does "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-four pnsBy-footer from Delphi, defend through his Invisible Emperor, the pope of Rome, the Pacisti, and by what process of reasoning does he in the same breath condemn Klanemen In America? The Facistl served Italy and it is well that they did not permit their ranks to become filled with those who, perixaps, were not sympathetic with the Italian view and with the Italian form of government. It is also well that they kept out of their ranks Protestants and Masons, be cause certainly conflict would have come up and the Facisti, dedicated to patriotism, or apparently so, and designed to Instill the practices of Roman Catholicism in a Roman country, would not thrive when its ranks were filled with disbelievers, or those of another faith. The Facistl is not trying to drive the Protestants out of Italy, nor is it endeavoring to retard their rights under the laws of an adopted country. The Klan is not endeavoring and has' not endeavored to oppress, hamrights, nor the right of the American Catholic church (if there is" such a chnrch), nor does it oppose or oppress the foreigner within our gates. But the Klan will, regardless of any influence, protect these people in their constitutional rights. The time will come when intelligent Catholics (not "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, the two-by-four pussyfooter from Delphi) will proclaim the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan blessed, as some of the more intelligent ones have already done and will continue to do. Ciood and Keal Catholics Don't Fear the Klan Recently, a prominent realtor and an outstanding member of the Knights of Columbus, who has perhaps done more for Ihe Knights of Columbus than any other single Catholic, said in Cincinnati, his home town, a short time ago, that "the Roman Catholic church has nothing to fear from the Klan. Some of my closest business associates are Klans men and a number of my personal friends are either in the organiza tion or they are very sympathetic toward it, and I know that these broad-minded gentlemen would not be associated -with anything which was antagonistic to any sect in the United States." If "Mad Pat" O'Donnell and Law rence Lyons are justified in their vulgar assault on the Protestant peot America, then the Protestant people, representing a vast majority,: noiamg a preponderance of wealth,; would be equally justified, and are derelict in their duty If they do not, at ones, launch a similar activity to that of "Mad Pat" O'Donnell, and the coniving thugs, thieves, traitors, and oath breakers who. purport to repre sent the American Unity League, and who have, under cover of darkness, stolen; and who are endeavoring to set; neighbor against his neighbor; split . political parties, and who -are j endeavoring to indt religious strife and, racial differences in America. It the Klan were to engage in anything so. unholy, o unpatriotic, and so -un-American, then 4t should and would be destroyed and disbanded. An organisation founded upon hate can not survive. " . . C ...JThe Kfcm Is founded upon lawful, patriotic, Christian toleration and genuine love tot all mankjnd; hence that beautiful language of the ritual. When we think of "Mad Pat" O'Donnell - the two-by-tour pussyfooter from Delphi, and Lawrence Lyons, the Benedict Arnold of the Klan from Brook, Ind., there Arises to our Hps:

Instead of a government of, for and by the people, we have a government of, fop and by the Supreme court" Th editor of this paoar. who u also under indictment for an alleged liquor law violation, is one of the men who is reported as "assisting" in the Federal investigation. Gene Williams, a notorious charac ter, is reputed to be the "brains' in tie investigation. Williams is a suve young man. He speaks fluent English, has a pleasant personality and is convincing in his arguments. To relate his -history of ups and downs In court would fill the pages of a romance. He was once deputy oros--fecutor of Delaware countv. wa in J dieted for graft, convicted, apnealed to the Supreme Court and the lower court s verdict was reversed on a tech nicality. He has been mixed up In a number of affairs. More recently he was convicted in connection with the burglary of a hardware store at ttaston, a nearby town. This case has been appealed to the Supreme Court. Drteeflve Agency Much f the evidence collected cen ters around the office of Albert Rees, detective agency, in the Johnson tmuamg. Rees and Jerry Curran, both released from the city police department last fall, are associated in the private detective agency. Williams was found at this office and talked freely about the investigation being made. He said that the Federal investigators have been in Muncle about flfteen days, but were called back to Indianapolis because of the Gary trial. While they were in Muncle, Williams said, they obtainefi ft stack of affidavits signed by persons who testified about corruption In th city and county government. Many colored men and women and others who still live in the once famous "South Side" visited the offices to give evidence. Williams repeated most of the charges against the city and county officials which are "contained in the answer flled in Federal court by John Cox, a police character, who is a de-Tendaxrt-Tn a case pending in that court. Williams was asked who was Cox's attorney in preparing and filing the answer. He replied that Cox did not have an attorney. Williams admitted that the police were lively in "laying on" some blind tigers and bootleggers. He said he did not believa there was anvthinolike corruption money being paid, but that the city and county officials .were mereiy paying political debts by letting some of the underworld get by. Joke at Charges Members of the administration of Dr. J. c. Quick, mayor, take the charge that political debts are being paid to underworld characters as a Joke. They point out that Dr. Quick Was bitterly opposed by the liberal element which formed an important part of the backing for Dr. Bunch, ex-mayor, who was defeated for reelection. To get some first-hand information from a place where there might be some "cheating," a visit was made to a soft-drink placa on the outskirts of the city. The place was an old barroom. The proprietor has been convicted of a liquor law violation during the present administration. This proprietor was communicative about the activity of the Muncia police. "I would rather have Bert Morgan (Federal prohibition director for Indiana) or old man Volstead himself come around here and hunt for booze than these police," wag the way In which this man spoke of the raiding ability of MuncU's police department. 'Shake-up1' B Department One of the first actions of the ew " board of safety whi chtook offioe October 9 last year was to weed vat of the police department several members around whom a great deal at agitation centered. One of these was the night captain of police, John Mole's. Two others were Detectives Albert Rees and Jerry Curran. The ' two detectives were not charged with -any wrong doing, but were removed -for the good of the service becsmse' their names had become involved la' the agitation which became so -aert- -ous that parades and demonstrations were staged.
