ANOTHER FIERY GROSS
NEWSIE ASSAULTED
BY THEIR ACTS YE SHALL KNOW THEM. Mt. Vernon, O.. March 26. The sale or The Fiory Cross on the Btreets of this community seems to have aroused th ire of members of the Knights of olumbus to such an extent that a street fight resulted between a wellknown member of the Catholic organization and a news vendor here on Saturday evening. March 17. Archie Simpson was selling The Fiory Cross Saturday afternoon and evening. Several times in the after
noon. Salomon ChrlHtnnhAr nn a
pugilist and member of the K. of C.'s Insulted Simpson by making remarks about the "Ku Kluxers." At one time an argument arose, but Simpson and Christopher shook hands as the outcome. Later in the evening Christopher returned, and, according to witnesses was in an intoxicated condition, lie struck Simpson on the back. In defense Simpson returned the blow, knocking his assailant to the pavement. Patrolman Peterson, also a member of the Knights of Columbus, arrested both men. Sunday morning Simpson was released on a recognizance bond. Monday evening a hearing was held before the mayor and the charge of fighting against Simpson was dismissed when the circumstances were explained.

IMPROVEMENT
NOTED IN WEST INDIANAPOLIS
LAW ENFORCEMENT WORKER SAYS VICE CONDITIONS ARE BETTER. ,
A general improvement in vice conditions, particularly with reference to violations of the liquor laws, has been noted in West Indianapolis since the formation of the West Indianapolis Civic League for the Enforcement of Law West of White river, an official of the league said today. The organization, the names and officers of which have not been made public, was formed a few weeks ago to watch for and report law violations in the district. A meeting was held this week at which further details of the organization were perfected and another meeting will be held next week, the official said. Three members of the league, each known as captains, arc assigned to each block in West Indianapolis to keep a lookout for law violations. They report the result of their investigations to a central committee and the committee in turn submits its reports to the authorities. "Conditions have improved wonderfully since the organization has started to work," said one of the officials of the league. "Several wellknown 'bootleggers' have moved out of the neighborhood and some gambling games have been broken up. We are well pleased with the results thus far and expect to continue our work until not a law violator remains in the district. If they persist in remaining, we're going to make it 'hot' for them."
ORGANIZATION OF WOMEN WANT GLEAN FILMS
WILL MAKE EFFORT TO ABOLISH "LOW-BROW, MORON TYPE" OF PICTURE.
New York. March 20. A national committee of women, whose purpose it will be to make the better type of motion pictures available to the American public, is being organized in this city, under the leadership of Miss Helen Varick Boswell, club woman and civic leader. The new sunervision nf fllma wna
established mainly through the efforts

centers, etc.
Miss Boswell, who was chairman of the Industrial and Social Conditions Committee of the General Federation of Women's Clubs for eight years, will have the co-operation of committees of women in various-sections of the United States to sound out opinions in their territory and find out which types of pictures are desirable. Francis M. Hugo, formerly New York secretary of si iltp. in nnnrinnn-
ing the appointment of Miss Boswell,
We know that the mother. nf ihi
country want clean pictures, which
uun oe Known in clean, healthful surroundings, under the right auspices. We intend to give the mothers what they want. Clean pictures for children today mean clean pictures for adults tomorrow. If children are taught during their formative years to enjoy religious, geographical, and bibical pictures they will grow up predisposed against the low-brow, moron type of film. Again and again the American public has protested against the pictures shown to the children. Colleges, women's clubs, and churches have rallied against the improper on the screen. For the most part, their protests have gone unheeded. We will give the public educational and religious pictures which can be shown in churches and school houses, and at the same time we will give them pictures which will entertain and amuse.
Meeting at Boswell Boswell, Ind., March 20 Before a remarkably large audience, Reverend Kern delivered a stirring lecture on Americanism here Tuesday night. Reverend Kern made a plea for the Ku KIux Klan, and stated that public opinion was rapidly changing to the point where all citizens are feeling that it is entitled to a square deal and are observing its support of law and order in the community.
