Committee Disappointed

Wniard. O.. March 21. It has Just bccomo known thnt recently a party of throe, consisting of Father Lynch, Chief of Police Kberle, and a lady, natno unknown, constituted a reception (?) committee waiting in th! lobby of the Willnrd hotel for the arrival of a Ku Klux Klan organizer. Lining the curb in front of the hotel were several friends known to ha adherents of Father Lynch and many 'of these regardless of inclement weather, waited until far into the night. Whether the organizer was to he greeted with brick bats or bou(lucts lias not yet-been learned, but the fact remains that he did disappoint the committee, by not arriving.

To those "In on the situation" and

who mingled with7tlio crowd and"; observed the anxious looks that met the arrival of each bus and cab in front of the hotel with eager craning of

necks. It was a most amusing spec-j

wcic. i raveung men ana otners arriving at the New Willard hotel were embarrassed by this self-constituted reception committee. It is reported that while the "hosts of the glad hand" were gathered at the Willard, a Klan meeting was held in a hall nearby, and a large class initiated, but other than this their movements were entirely secret.

(Special to Fiery Cross.) Seymour, Ind., Marci- 21. Another

angle evolved itself in the alleged illegal liquor traffic Saturday night, in Seymour, so far as under current of society of this city is concerned, when hundreds of residents of Seymour witnessed for the first time in this "ity a flaming cross of the Ku Klux Klan. With no forewarning the cross, which had been secretly planted on the old site of the Baltimore and Ohio round house, standing over twelve feet in height, suddenly burst out in all its splendor to surprise, awe and mystify a large throng of people remaining at a respectable distance from the spectacle. As mysteriously as they had planted the cross, the hooded members of the Klan disappeared into the night Without their number being known. With the fiery cross came a warning which caused an uneasy quietness to settle over many places of ill repute, which are suspected of being the rendezvous of doubtful

in the Oregon case to the supreme eourt. It is significant that Indiana's quota is $200,000. It is understood from reliable sources that Ohio's quota is in excess of this amount, and based on this law ot averages, those who are familiar with money-raising campaigns insist that this campaign for funds would bring forth approximately $2,750,000 if-Bimilar amounts were obtained in

proportion, from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and other states. It is understood that this money will be secured from the Catholics under the guise of

carrying an the " sectarian school fight, and to forestall the will of the majority ot voters in - the State of Oregan. But to right-thinking people, and to, people who think at all, it is " but the evidence of the setting up of a new form .for gathing the dimes ot the Catholic laity into t.he Immense coffers of the anti-KJan propaganda fund.

The first Crawford sville klansman to die, was buried last week. Robed and hooded Knights acted as pallbearers, and as they gathered around the casket for the last gaze at their departed brother, all of the klansmen were sobbing. By Kitter.

During zero weather, recently, Wm. Earl Blaney, Klansman of Muncie, Ind., was laid to rest. It will be remembered that this funeral wa3 one of the largest ever held in Muncie. The above picture shows 200 Klansmen at the graveside.

The gathering is the first held here by the Klan, to which bothjmen and women have been admitted. There were many women in the audience Wednesday night. For several days organizers have been at work in Shelbyville, it is stated, working among the women here. They have also been active in the county, outside of the

the message left to convey the meaning of the appearance of the cross, for directly in front of the spectacle, well lettered and distinguishable at a good distance, a sign had been placed bearing the words: "In Honor of Our Savior Who Died to Save the World, Bootleggers, Gamblers, Law Violators, Beware. The Eyes of the Klan are Watching You! Signed, Ku Klux Klan." At either side of the sign two small American flags unfurled from short staffs, waved gently with a breeze that fanned the binning cross to leaping flames, brightly illuminating the surroundings.

ROME WORRIED OVER INDE

PENDENT ACTIONS OF BOHEMIA.

(Special to Fiery Cross.) Rome, Italy, March 20. A feeling

of uneasiness is apparent in Catholic circles here over the attitude of ; priests in the Bohemian or Czecho-!

Slovakian church who have shown a greater and greater spirit of inde

pendence and tendency to break away

from the church.

The rebellion is against the authori

ty of the Vatican, and involves ques

tions of discipline, ritual and so on.

The trouble has been brewing ever

since the armistice was signed.

J he principal act of revolt, how

ever, was one involving one of the

most stringent rules of the church,

that requiring celibacy of the clergy.

Two of the leaders of the "Jednota," or revolting priests, believing in the passage of the Bible which says that "It is not good for man to live alone," have taken unto themselves wives.

Their action brought a prompt

order from the Vatican to repent, dispense with their wives and hereafter stick to the straight and narrow. They

wore given lu days in which to com

ply with the order. And then Vatican authorities sat back complacently to await the remorse' of the offenders to bring them penitently upon their knees for forgiven'ess. But that is where the vatl&th was" fooled. The priests declined to give up their mates to whom they believed they were entitled. The authorities then visited upon them a "major excommunication" which is the greatest punishment possible and which is the same as a reserved seat for eternity close up to the fires in purgatory. They are not only barred from church services, but should they enter a church the services must cease until they depart. -They can not have benefit of clergy

at the time of their deaths nor can they bo buried in Catholic burial grounds. They simply are assigned to a life void of Christian religion and benefits and repentence will avail them nothing, i Undismayed, the priests have gone on with their teachings and their wives, and their following is growing over stronger. The people attend their services and the rift between the church and the Vatican grops ever wider.
