of the church, and, arriving ut the pulpit, presented Rev. Dr. Woodward

with a purse, later found to contain

a basket of carnations. The flowers, a card said, were "from the Protest

ant women of Columbus," and in the Bible was a slip of paper bearing this inscription: "To Rev. Dr. C. O. Woodward, in appreciation of his support of Americanism."

Frfiinont, Ohio. Following the disflosurfl that the burning of a supposed Ku Klux Klan cross and the sending of a mysterious notn to the editor of the Fremont News was a "fake" and a clever publicity stunt devised by Capt. Frank Buehler of the American Legion, steps

were threatened today to cause Bjiehler's arrest. It was announced that the mayor would call Buehler in for a "talk." Not since the flood of 1913 has there boon such excitement in Fremont as that on Saturday over the supposed K. K. K. affair. One girl reported to

police tnat she nad seen two men, wearing robes, step from an auto, deposit the cross against an iron flagpole, ignite it and drive away. In the folds of a small American flag near the spot was a typewritten, note, addressed to the editor of News. An

apparently meaningless jumblo of words, all in capital letters, was said to be a code message, and notation was added: "Code by mail Sunday." When the excitement reached a fever staap Saturday, Buehler admitted that Tfc was sponsible for the whole thifeg. The "code" which he gave out interpreted the fumble of wonis as follows: "Announcing the publicity campaign of the legion minstrels in April." Feeling is divided today. Many think Buehler, who is known as a practical joker, played a clever trick.

has been under way at the Main' St

cnristian church the last three and a half weeks was brought to its close

Wallape and wife and Chester'Harris,'

singer, are leaying for Wellsville, W. Va.i .where they will take charge of a revival within the next few days.

The meetings at Main bt. church

were marked by large attendance and unusual interest throughout. While

the meetings were in progress many persons went forward and signified in? tention of formally uniting with the church - and becoming actively identified with its work. Shortly after the opening of the final service of the series, Sunday evening,, there was a demonstration

that seemed a surprise to many in. the audience. A bugle was sounded at the

southeast entrance of the church, whereupon a column of figures hooded

and gowned in white, the' costumes bearing the insignia of the Ku Klux Klan, marched down the aisle to the

table on. which the contribution bas

kets were resting, each figure in the column depositing an offering and then passing quickly and quietly out of the church. There were eightyodd men in the column. The leader, who was gowned but not hooded and who seemed to be a stranger, stood by the table until the column had

passed. Then he left a note and followed his associates. The offering left by the white-clad visitors is said to have amounted to

$81. The note was addressed to Evangelist 'Wallace. The latter read if, after the column had left the church. It. was an expression of appreciation of his work in general during the revival and of his efforts in behail" of "One hundred . per cent. Americanism" in particular. The audience applauded while the marchers were depositing their offering and also when the note was read. The

note bore the signature, "Ku Klux Klan of Howard County."

Rev. Kern, Pastor of M. E. Church, Preaches on "Saving America" Defends Ku Klux Klan.

By a vote of 16,603 to 1,500, parents of Indianapolis school children have expressed approval of the school building program, according to figures given out today. The school board recently sent out ai summary of thet program for the elimination of portable buildings by the erection of modern school buildings. Each summary was accompanied by a ballot. The program recently adopted by the. board provided for the erection of six grade school buildings imme

diately, with extension of high and

grade school facilities in the future. There has been no school building activity itt Indianapolis for two years. The last attempt to inaugurate a building program was halted in 1921, when the State board of tax commissioners refused to approve a bond issue for four new buildings.

Herman Konow, South. Bend bootlegger, was arrested in this city Sunday afternoon by Marshal Chas. Fish

Konow, aged about 25 years, was

taken to the city hall where he was

searched. The officers found that he

carried two pints of moonshine whisky. He. represented this whisky

to be bonded goods. He said that it

was brewed in 1913 and bottled in

1922. There was a government seal

over the cord. Konow was later taken

to the county jail where he will await

trial.

The officers have been laying for

this gentleman for several weeks and

Sunday determined that he would go no further. They had some inside in

Negro and Woman Held

With the arrest of a negro and a

white woman Thursday night on

charges of vagrancy, detectives hope

disappearance of a white girl, age
