More than half the schools in Chicago are not fireproof, it was learned when President John Dill Robertson of the board of education began an investigation of complaints that pupils in the Perkins-Bass and Wentworth schools are iu danger of being burned to death. Dr. Robertson forwarded the complaints, made in behalf of parents of j 2,600 children, to the Are department with a request that conditions at the ' institutions be investigated arid j recommendations submitted to the board. "These buildings, like more than : 200 others, were built prior to the enactment erf the present fire ordi nances," he said. "But I do not mean j to say they are unsafe they merely i are not fireproof in the full meaning of the word." Superintendent Peter A. Mortenson said that in such buildings as the fire department decided did not meet fire ordinance requirements, fire escapes would be constructed. OHIO HOUSE DECLARES HANDS OFF KLAN Columbus. O., Feb. 12. .The Ohio house of representatives has declared emphatically against the state attempting to regulate activities of the Ku Klux Klan within its borders.
