I have noticed, as all others must have, the calendars, even to this day, testify to the seventh day Sabbath as in the" commandment and we are ridiculed by the Catholics for criticising them and observing the first day of the week instead of the seventh. Our God is not winking at this for he calls it the "mark of the beast." In this time as in the time of Noah we should disregard custom and accept the Lord's Sabbath and not the Sunday of the heathenish papacy. 1 believe if Christ should come here to choose teachers and preachers He would, as before, get open-minded men, probably fishermen, who-were not grounded in one of so numerous doctrines; and they would teach the law of God, not leaving out His seventh-day Sabbath rest day which he blessed and made for man, thus making us eligible citizens for His I Kingdom. We must not be guilty of one for if guilty of one we are guilty of all. Now if we are wise He gives us warning. We can accept our "mark" lor the judgment. His, as we know, is the true Sabbath, the sign or mark of the lamb of God. I have taken the oath of a guardsman, served almost four years during the world war and in return received an honorable discharge of which I am justly proud. I just wonder if Mayor Flemming even knows the oatli of an American, soldier. I have taken it twice and never have found where it bars me! from being a member of a secret order of which 1 am a member of seven. During certain duties connected with the service in the past I have had the pleasure to meet and associate with a few of the men who are members of the Portland companies and have found them to be real hemen, ready to discharge their duty as soldiers any time. Why don't the mayor stop the lodges of Portland from going to funerals of deceased members as well as trying to prohibit 100 per cent. Americans from walking down the street? Yours for 100 per cent. Editor The Fiery Cross: In reply to "An Unhappy Wife," in last week's Fiery Crdss, let me say, this: We women always did want to be the whole show in our husbands' liyes, at least, but when our Country! calls we always want to know that; our husand, brother or son is among the first to answer that call and although we can not go with them to, the front we know what they are doing and why they are doing" it, and the Klan is . only fighting to uphold the same principles that real Americans have always fought to uphold. If I never cad belong to any part of it I am going to just be happy that I even live here in the good, old United States of America and breathe the same air with these brave, 100 per cent. Americans. Elwood, lad., Jan 31. Editor The Fiery Cross: Wednesday evening at his home, 415 S. 21st St., Beecher Moore was made very, very happy by the presentation of a donation of $34 which was given to him by members of the Ku Klux Klan of this city. Beecher requested the publication of his appreciation placed in this paper as well as in the Elwood daily paper, and, he is very grateful to the Klansmen for their interest in him, and takes this method of expressing same to them as well as the public, telling of the Klan's good acts. Beecher is a very dear, good hoy who has been bedfast for the past three years suffering with osteOmylitis (a bone disease). His kindness and patience during this extended illness is noted throughout Elwood and vicinity, as he has been an example without a doubt, of patience. He always has a kind word and a smile to everyone. Although only 14 years of age he is very intellectual. He was 10 years old when this illness came upon him. Before his illness he was one of the best students in the Bible class of the Church of Christ. We feel that there could have been no better donation than that of this worthy young boy and we take this means of again thanking the Klansmen for their kindness. Indianapolis, Ind., Feb. Editor The Fiery Cross: Dear Sir I've just been wondering if there is a part of the K. K. K. for us wives, mothers and young women? . A friend of mine told me that it is said to be in other states, towns and cities, but did not know of any in Indianapolis. We wives want to be one of them to hcip our husbands that are Klansmen. Wc. women that are 100 per cent. Americans think that it is our places to help the K. K. K. and our husbands to build dear old Ameri ca 100 per cent, instead, of one-fifth or one-tenth of it having 48 per centers. Of course, we wives do not know if our husbands are Klansmen or not. But every wife has a right to use her own knowledge and think as the spirit lets her. There are thousands of 100 per cent. American women today that would only be too glad to have a chance to belong to K. K. K. women's part. I am only asking for us women to have a part with the Klansman, as the Masons and other secret orders have for their women. We women want to help make America 100 per cent. Sunday School, surprised his congregation by reading a letter he had received with a handsome cash donation enclosed from Miami Klansmen. This is the first time many people knew that there were Klansmen in this vicinity, it is understood there are more than 40 men of sterling character and America lovers of this community that wear the honorable white robe. It is the highest ambition of these good men to have one hundred 100 per cent. Americans in this town and community before spring. A Reader. KU KLUX KLAN GIVES AID Charles Carpenter and family, living about four miles south and west of Knox, were agreeably surprised early Saturday morning when a machine stopped in front of their house and several strangers emerged from therein and began fo unload a varied assortment of necessities of life, which vere carried into the house without comment by the strangers. Just as they left, after completing the task of carrying these things into the house, an envelope containing the following letter and $20 in cash was handed to Mr. Carpenter: "Jan. 27, 1923. "Mr. Charles Carpenter: "Christian Greetings: " The eyes of the Klan hath seen. "We are aware that you are in need and knowing this we offer the con tents of this letter, in the hope that it will relieve the situation somcwJbat. We are also offering you some of the necessities of life and trust that you will receive it in the spirit given. "May we suggest that you use the inclosed money to buy shoes and clothing for the children.
