Touching the negro phase, Reverend Brown, in substance said: "I am not for or against the negro. I, myself, do not care to work under a negro boss. I do not look on the race as an equal to the white race. Mr. Dark Man, stay on your side of the fence,

I making it doubly sure that justice

may come to all and that particularly the purity of good womanhood may be safe-guarded and that the sanctity of our 100 per cent. American homes be kept as they should be pure and unsullied from the ambition of a goodly portion of the negro race, on one hand and animal lustfulness on the other." Reverend Brown said: "It is stated that our big city newspapers, our telegraph and telephone lines and many other gigantic institutions of this United States are largely controlled by Jews and Catholics, which, if so, is a condition to be deplored and this one point stands out clearly and forcefully that certain distortion and cen

sorship makes it unsafe to believe all the newspapers say, 'particularly when discredit or censure is aimed at the Ku Klux Klan. In closing Reverend Brown quoted the principles for which he under

stood the Ku Klux Klan stands: "The tenets of the Christian religion; white supremacy; just laws and liberty; protection of our pure womanhood; the upholding of the Constitution of the United States; closer relationship of pure Americanism; the

sovereignty of our state rights; sepa- ! ration of church and state; freedom of speech and press; closer relationship between capital and labor; preventing the causes mob violence and lynehings; preventing unwarranted strikes by foreign labor agitators; prevention of fires and destruction of property by lawless elements; the elimination of foreign immigration; the much needed local . reforms and law and order." lie said: ''I believe in these prin

ciples." On next Sunday evening, January 28, the Rev. Mr. Brown will deliver another especially prepared sermon on

"The Fiery Cross." Rev. Frank L. Brown is pastor of the Methodist Church, having come there recently from Columbus, Ohio, where he was pastor of one of the large churches. At the time of writing, I do not know which one. If you care to use this in the Fiery

Cross you have my permission without charge. Kindly send me a copy of paper if you use it.

tion and the public in your territory. It seems impossible for the enemy to stop shooting at me, and while I do not wish to do so, but desire to step aside from the firing line, if they keep up their present tactics I will go back on the firing line and make them wish they had either played the game fair with me or left me alone. "Edward Young Clarke."

The impression that is being promulgated by the Public Press seems to be that the Ku Klux Klan is some horrible order of destruction. With all this slander about the

I have . heretofore made no statement con-1 cerning the affair because any state-1 ment about the incident was due to ' come from the officials of the Klan in ' Louisiana and did come from them in i which they made complete denial of : any Klan connection with the affair, j and upon their statement outlining the state organization's plans concern- j ing same, and upon the statement and j

denial of the Louisiana state officials j

I unhesitatingly stand. "The news reports concerning the affair have repeatedly carried the statement that the mob supposed to have killed the two Mer Rouge citizens wore white robes and white hoods, when as a matter of fact the

der or resolution asking the officers of the county to enforce the law. This is not only a patriotic American trait but a very much needed one. I fear that the Ku Klux Klan is passing through the natural state of af

fairs that all new and righteous movements must have passed through in the past. 1st. Slander. 2nd. Argument. 3rd. Adoption. The good works of this movement will soon dawn upon the people, for the thorn crowned Son of Mary said, "As for the Truth it endureth and is always strong. It liveth and conquereth forever more.'' And then the falsehoods and slanders in general that are so character-

first testimony brought out at the ! istic of the plutocratic owned press hearing by the state's witnesses shows of the country will lose the small

that they wore black masks, and my information is that the members of the mob were dressed in overalls and unionalls. In other words the enemies of the Klan in their frantic effort to

discredit the organization have deliberately sent over the nation news reports to the effect that the mob of lnwless citizens who are supposed to have killed the Louisiana victims were dressed as Klansmen when those sending out the stories knew this was not so. "As the executive head of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan I denounce any statement no matter from what source the Ku Klux Klan or Klansmen are authorized or taught

Let us take it as an illustration: Just an ordinary town of its size, that has the advantages of nature, some very desirable people dwell there and also some very undesirable citizens. government the fact that the patriotic people of Portland had presumed to demonstrate their patriotism by going through the streets of that city carrying the American flag. That forceful steps should be taken to prevent the Klan from trying to bring back pa

triotism into the hearts of the people seems to be the view of Mayor Flem ming. If the mayor is not successful in getting the United States army to mobilize in Portland, or the United

States navy to anchor on the banks of the Brandywine and shell Portland from long range, then surely he should hire someone, with less tongue and more backbone, and turn the fire department loose again, not on the Ku Klux Klan, or the governor, or the otlier good people of the state, but on the law violators in Portland, so that the 25 or 30 bootleggers would have to ply their trade in some location

other than where they have heretofore been carrying it on. If the public will take the trouble to look below the surface and see just what Is behind the Klan, there can not be a successful indictment.

and the Rev. winked at him and they j opened up the place last night again. Then there is the "Boss" next door with his so called Drug Store (?) whei-e a drink of some concoction is prepared and sold to the younger generation who come in automobile parties for miles around and dance in the "Back Part." This "Boss" is the real owner of Blanks Pool Koom. His father was a saloon man. Then a Blind Tiger Keeper, died and left his fortune to this young Catholic. , Near these two places is a "Poor Women," in fact to be pitied as she has suffered from the pangs of this rotten invisible government of Old

Doc's so long. There she is working her life away.

She is a "Moonshiner" only her work in fact disgraces the calling. She now. sells another brand of Moonshine, as "Bill Stugan" had her pinched and

she stopped making "Home Made'' and

tamed down some. In fact they will all be tamed down some when the Klan gets its .work completed. Then we go across the street to Vingates Billiard Academy. Professor Charlie is the leading professor, who is a great fighter, with his mother1 and has a ''yellow streak" up his back. He fights women with a knife, cuts them. This is a very pleasant looking brick building, a pool hall and bowling alley owned, or supposed to be owned by

a cripple named Vingate. In fact

I Bill Stugan may own it or the In

visible Government of Old Doc's, etc. We go down the back stair way and go into well lighted, pleasantly arranged rooms where gambling is conducted for high stakes and also low stakes. ThisWintage is a cripple and behind this fact (unable to work.etc), the Invisible Government of Old Doc's has hidden for years to cover a multitude of sins. They even marched out a Christian (?) minister, and run him and elected

him mayor of Gas City. And out spoken and combative (that is what the ring calls him) , Dr. Horne

is his name, made a public speech

and showed the workings of "Old Doc" and made a plea -to down Ro

manism as he called it, but the plea

was in vain.

Mr." Vingate pays the piper, therefore he has the support of "Old Doc".

office, draws a good salary, fifteen dollars more on the month was given him at the last council meeting. Old

Doc imagines just because he is a Roman Catholic that he can continue in his . horrible sin-ridden ways and nothing will be done. But, Ohl Beware! My Catholic Doc, you have aroused the spirit of True Americanism, you have brought from the dead the spirit of Isaac Davis, Paul Revere, Nathan Hale and Patrick Henry. Not long will this sin, this graft continue. I call on the Roman Catholic

church of America to ask a confes

sion of its members in Gas City and get them to walk in the straight and narrow path of true Americanism. The drug stores have been selling alcohol, peppermint jake, etc., until just of late. The Rotenhouse Drug Co., run by Dave, sold the eoncoction and even a dope headed, drunken Catholic drank it and insulted true American citizens in the store. Another drug company, is doing better now. They did sell some ''bad stuff' but have quit, for the good of themselves and the people. Right here in the heart of town there is a gambling room and pool

room. Gambling ran wide open for a while upstairs, then later on in a shed in the rear of the building. He finally saw he did not stand in well with ''Old Doc's" rulings and quit gambling. Now he is running just a pool room. It is well for every i one to understand that he must "be in" with this Invisible Government i and pay tribute before he can run

smoothly. Not far now from Stones Pool Room is the office and gambling room of

Doctor Sison. He was brought here and entered into partnership with "Old Doc," the acting Czar. This so called partnership has now been dissolved and Dr. Sisson has opened office and gambling rooms, and white mule joint just west of the Avalon Hotel. With him is a very clever young man who claims Kentucky as his home. He makes very frequent

trips to Detroit, Michigan then into Canada, and he brings whiskey home with him. Tonight, January 13, 1923, there are fifteen men playing poker in these rooms of Dr. Sisson's. Very recently Dr. Sisson was arrested but his case never came to trial. Old Doc ordered

"hand oft'' and the Rev. mayor dismissed the case. So the mixup of crime and crim

inals, the disobeying of law and order is great in Grant County and Gas City is the fountain head. If the Ku Klux Klan can untangle this mess she will surely deserve the praise of all true American citizens. Two Catholic gentlemen and "Old Doc," the poor old fellow, the senile lec.ay is working on his brain, jjow

are at work with? the Unity League, endeavoring to "show up" the horrible workings of the Ku Klux Klan. They would stop the patriotic, white American citizens from organizing for protection of their own country, the land of the free and the home of the

brave. Doc is a member of the K. of C, but he seriously objects to the true Americans forming their organizations. Little does he know, how many, nor who are members even in his own town, of the organization that is trying to protect our country. A Marion man by the name of Stugan is furnishing the money for the

Unity League and no doubt "Old Doc" is getting his just as hs-did when he worked for the wets years ago. Gas City needs a clean up and she will get it sure for men who have been asleep at the post are aroused into action and the same spirit that ruled the "Minute Men," the "Sons of Liberty," in the Revolutionary days has taken possession of . their very souls and even if it takes their lives away, they will give them with the same spirit that Nathan Hale gave

his.
