PUBLIC SCHOOL NOTES.
1 ~~ i The schools will cloee Wednesday evening, December 22, for the Xmas vacation and re-open Monday, January 8. * The Community Club of the Primary Building have arranged to have the school yard covered with a layer of cinders. This is a very commendable undertaking and greatly appreciated by the school people as well as the children. Primary Building. Mrs. 4. A. Shepler has returned after being absent two weeks. Miss Mildred Rush of the South Marion School visited the Primary grades last Friday. 7075 of the Health Seals have been sold by the pupils of this building. This is a much better report than last year. This past week the attendance in each room has been very good. Each grade has been doing work in* keeping with the season. The lower grades have made bells, holly wreaths, Christmas trees and fire places. The upper grades have made calendars, book, marks, blotting pads and pencil holders. A large box of Christmas joy is now on its way to Kentucky—filled to overflowing by the children of the Jasper County Red Cross, to .gladden the 'hearts of the little Knott County Kentuckians who “have never seen a Christmas tree.” In addition to yards and yards of paper chains and pop com strings, dozens of paper dojis and innumerable other attractive, things made by the children to decorate the tree, the box contains a dozen games, forty-seven books, seven rubber balls, six bags of marbles, ten dolls, five pairs of bed room slippers, nuts, crayons, various articles of clothing nineteen miscelloneous packages, and an endless assortment of playthings. The enthusiasm with which the children responded to this "hppeal is surely evidence not only of the true spirit of the Junior Red Cross, but also of the Christmas season. Grammar School. Much enthusiasm has been shown among the pupils as to the sale of the Health Seals. At present the total is about forty-five dollars. Everyone, especially the teachers, are very much interested in the Domestic Science department. We wonder why? Candy making week. Selections have been made of the two best pieces of work to be placed on exhibit during the teachers meeting tomorrow. Mr. Sterret has asked each school in the county to have similar exhibits. This is a meeting of all of the teachers of Jasper County and will be of an Institute nature. High School Building. School was dismissed a few minutes early on Friday afternoon to allow the students to attend the Power Farming Demonstration at the Central Sales Garage. Since about half of the high school enrollment are boys and girls from the farm, the demonstration was of quite general interest. The basket ball team is playing the Remington team this evening at Remington. Several car loads of fans are planning to attend the game. , , The prospects are for a heavy schedule for the football season next fall. Several large schools over the state have written for games. If satisfactory dates and terms can be arranged, the contracts will likely be closed. Mrs S’. A. Royster, who had been visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Royster and family, returned to her home at Delphi today.
BOTH EXPERIENCED SMOKERS and those with an indifferent taste for tobacco find pleasure in smoking our cigars. To the experienced of course the pleasure is the keener. And the other fellows soon learn to appreciate the joy of good tobacco in its best form. TJJie best cigars are .the ones you ought to smoke.
