Future of the Helicopter.

It is by no means certain that the successful air craft of the future will be tbe familiar airplane or even the dirigible balloon. Some aerobeuttc experts believe That the commercial aircraft of the future will be some fun »of helicopter. Within a few days a noted Inventor, Peter Cooper Hewitt, hue succeeded in building a helicopter which has actually risen from the ground and carried a man along with it and flown for a distance of 100 yards. Small models of this form have been made in the past both in America and Europe, but this is believed to be the first which has actually carried a passenger. The first railroad locomotives and steamboats, it will be recalled, were built on very different principles than the models which finally were adopted, and it is within the range of possibilities that the same will prove true of -the flying craft A wonderful opportunity for invention is thus opened to our ingenuity.—Boys’ Life.
